"1. WALL-E records audio from his favorite movie, XXXXXXXXXXX, putting in onto his own digital recorder (bypassing the macrovision DRM on the tape). A COPYRIGHT CRIME UNDER C-61
2. WALL-E archives the audio, he doesn’t merely time-shift it. He listens repeatedly! A COPYRIGHT CRIME UNDER C-61
3. WALL-E shares his DRM-broken music with his friend, another robot named XXXXX. A COPYRIGHT CRIME UNDER C-61" - Benjamin Golub

actually, since it's hundreds of years later all of that stuff would be in the public domain :-) - mathew ingram
If history is any guide, Disney's copyrights will never expire. - Kevin Fox
+1 for Kevin. They don't call it the Mickey Mouse Protection Act for nothing. - Cyndy
Since Disney owns Wall•E and Wall•E is violating Disney's copyrights (which never expire as Kevin points out), I'm hoping Disney would end up in some sort of lawsuit infinite loop and implode, leaving Pixar to make good movies. - Scott Johnston
As long as Pixar continues to produce hits, Disney will leave Pixar alone. Even better, Pixar's influence will be felt stronger in Burbank and animation will improve there too. BOLT! this fall is the first to have Pixar's Story Method imposed upon it. Look for much better results than recent Disney animation. - John Frost
Someone censor that movie before it becomes a threat to the MPAA et al!!!! - Roberto Bonini
Wouldn't some sort of reverse Statute of Limitations apply since he doesn't do any of this until the year 2815? - Ken Sheppardson
Pageview_Limit_Exceeded once you click through. Oops! - Tony Ruscoe
At the end of Marissa's speech she says Google needs to do a better job of listening to/working with developers. It will be interesting to see what they do with that, IMO they could learn a thing or two from FF. - nadim
@tony - Apparently you all liked it, you really really liked it. Getting that fixed as we speak! - DeWitt Clinton
@nadim - I agree, we'll always have tons to learn from developers! Start a thread in the Google Code room (http://friendfeed.com/rooms/go...) with some of your favorite suggestions? - DeWitt Clinton
@dewitt - will do, after giving some thought to what my favorite suggestions are. - nadim
When I click through, it takes me to a login page telling me why I should sign up for Google Sites… - Amit Patel
Meh. That's been happening when users aren't signed in, though it is set as world readable. Let me see if I can stop the login page from popping up. - DeWitt Clinton
Just watched Effective Java by Josh Bloch. Sweet. - Elias Torres
@eliast - Have you picked up the 2nd edition of the book yet? - DeWitt Clinton
Not yet, but I was waiting for it to be out and this video told me is out. - Elias Torres
Best Practices for Spreading Your App without Ruining the User Experience is a win. :) I love this quote: "If you behave
like a disease,
people develop
an immune system" Someone needs to tell that to the app devs on facebook. - Erica Baker
He must have noticed my mood, because he suddenly stopped the story and asked, "Hey, what's the matter?"
I hesitated. "I'm sad because you're going to die."
"Yeah," he sighed, "that bugs me sometimes too. But not so much as you think." And after a few more steps, "When you get as old as I am, you start to realize that you've told most of the good stuff you know to other people anyway." - Scott Johnston
I tried all, pbwiki won! also great branding - than others. ----> (orghh wetpaint now) :D - Erhan Erdogan
we use Google sites for our start up here. Trac also has wiki built in as well. - Patrick Li
To clarify, this is something that I expect lots of random people to use+edit. I tried WetPaint once and ran into a lot of dumb problems. I've never heard of Confluence, will have to check it out. - Paul Buchheit
Why not just google doc writer? it does most of what a wiki does and no installation. - Javed Alam
@paul - Have you considered Wikia (http://www.wikia.com/)? It runs MediaWiki (same as Wikipedia) and is designed for lots of random people to edit. - DeWitt Clinton
Well if you're going to go crazy why not write a really simple wiki on top of appengine? Storage and authentication are already handled for you and you can use one of the python markdown implementations: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M... The only reason I could imagine why you'd want something like this is because you want to outsource the system maintenance or you want it to run on infrastructure that's independent of the FF systems. AppEngine would give you that. - Adewale Oshineye
PBWiki is a good alternative and StikiPad. Depending on what you're doing, a TiddlyWiki at TiddlySpot.com might be an interesting alternative. - Lindsay Donaghe
wikimatrix.org(compare tool) might be useful. wikipatterns.com has really interesting adoption patterns - Greg Plumbly

You should totally use Google Sites. I think it is the most amazing Wiki ever. Plus, the product manager is a great guy. I mean I can't say enough about the product manager. Wow, wow, wow. You should use it just because of him. - Scott Johnston
or FriendFeed, "It's what your friends are thinking about." - Chris White
"View the web through your friends' eyes." - Bret Taylor
I like Ana's. It might also be good to have a tagline that showcases the other half. "All the stuff you put on the web in one place." - Kevin Fox
All right, two more: 1) "FriendFeed, it's about your friends." and 2) "FriendFeed, share the web." - Chris White
"FriendFeed: you bring the friends, we bring the benefits" (from Ana) - Bret Taylor
Um, is this some kind of reference to friends with benefits, cause I'm not really gettting that vibe from FriendFeed. :) Maybe there should be more pictures. - Chris White
"What your friends are up to online", "Follow your friends' online activities", "Stalk people", "Discover interesting news, photos, blogs through friends" - Jess Lee
Keep up with what your friends are doing and sharing on the web. - peter
Hmm, I kind of like, "Good things from your friends", though I'm looking for a quick explanation more than a slogan. - Paul Buchheit
Web services aggregator and friend tracker - Louis Gray
Also, ideally it would be comprehensible by regular people. The basic activities that drive FF, sharing and discussion, are very normal. For example, my most recent FF entry (http://friendfeed.com/e/2b600e...) came from my aunt (via email). - Paul Buchheit
FriendFeed: go ahead and feed the wild animals - Huy Zing
PS: Wonder if one day Friendfeed grows to the point where even the harmless word "feed" is too technical and it will be just friend.com :) - Philipp Lenssen
"Bread crumbs for the mind." - Think of the bread crumbs from Hansel and Grethel and friendfeeders leaving trails of their online activity :) - Mustafa K. Isik
To further elaborate on terebaby's comment: Friends feed friends' FriendFeed - April Buchheit
Heh, I come back to this post, weeks after the fact with "A web of friends (and their feeds)." You can have that. That's free. Put it in your pocket, take it out at lunchtime. Show it to your friends.Draw flowers round it if you like. :-) - Slippy Lane

why can't we like comments? would be awesome here - paulm
Experience the artistic process of inspiring online journalists :-) You guys rock! Do you know how much time you guys are saving me from having to personally check out all these 1000s of apps and websites? Priceless! - Mitchell Tsai
Ha, very clever, I didn't even think of doing that! - Glenn Slaven
(I think that the "Comment" and "Like" links need to be moved below the existing comments. I scrolled all the way down, back up, and down). Slogan: Friendfeed: Web 2.0 Made _Smaller_ - possible248
FriendFeed is a center for store ideas. - accesine
High Tech playground - bounce around your ideas, stuff with your friends! - Susan Beebe
There is actually a really cool gadget called a Swimp3 for underwater... - Christopher Sacca
I can't believe they don't allow iPods. I wonder if there will be this retro-movement where they restrict more and more equipment until we're all running marathons barefoot on ungroomed dirt paths? Also, this article about the new Speedo suits is interesting: http://www.bitsofnews.com/cont... - Kevin Fox
Get an iPod Air (the invisible one mentioned on Saturday Night Live a year ago or so). - Mike Reynolds
honestly, the world (and athletes) have operated for thousands of years without portable music. It is almost laughable that so many are outraged you can't use an iPod. My track coach once told me that listening to music makes you mentally weaker -- you're essentially depending on an outside source( music) to give you a stimulus your mind should be able to do on its own. This example is a perfect reason why you shouldn't (always) train with an iPod. I never have and probably never will. - David Adewumi
but to add to that, the longest I've gone is 100 miles on a bike, and 15 or 16 miles on foot (and I suck at swimming) and I'm certainly not an ultra-distance athlete, so I can't personally say one should go without an iPod, but .... - David Adewumi
I'll be honest David, that has got to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Somebody who is going to run an ironman should be be able to drag a wide screen TV behind them if they like. I'd say your track coach is mentally weak for not being able to comprehend and accept new technology. Runners have been getting by for thousands of years without decent shoes as well -- should we do the same? - Scott Johnston
"former" track coach -- and he certainly accepts new technology, he just doesn't see it as a training tool. many athletes use music to get pumped up before an event, but how many sports allow electronic devices like an iPod for competition? and yes, some of the best runners in the world have gotten by (Google one Abebe Bikila) without any shoes. I've only run a 400m without shoes -- it was exhilirating. - David Adewumi
