Since I am on an overnight schedule to keep Phil company while he works graveyards I woke up about 3:30p today. I was petting Shelby when she reached up with her paw and clawed me in the eye. We had to rush to find an ophthalmologist who could get me in right away since everyone was closing.
I'm hanging on the edge here! Is there more? - Louis Gray
Animal scratches can get infected very quickly and I was put on both antibiotic ointment and vicodin for pain. The dr said it is a very bad scratch. We went to Walgreens who kept us waiting for over an hour before we finally just took the prescription to CVS who filled it within about 15 minutes. I have to put the ointment in every 3 hours and see the dr again tomorrow. It is extremely painful and I spent most of the evening not being able to open either eye. Luckily my other senses kicked in and now I have super hearing, similar to what happened to Daredevil. - Andrizzle Gizzle
Did the Dr. say this was going to heal completely without permanent damage? You're right the animal scratches to the eye get infected very quickly [ouch, ouch, ouch] - Jannifer @wordsforliving
Oh no! I once burned my eye with boiling soup (what a fun ER visit that was) and had to use antibiotic eye drops for a bit. I was also given numbing drops, which they don't want to use because people have a tendency to touch and further injure the eye when they can't feel it, but if your pain is unbearable you might want to ask for some. I hope your appointment tomorrow reveals no permanent damage! - joey
Sorry, I don't mean to hijack your post - just feeling concerned & sympathetic - Jannifer @wordsforliving
It was already a little infected just in the two hours we had to wait to get the antibiotic in it. The dr did not have this ointment in his office (why would he, he is only an eye dr) and with walgreens jerking us around it was very inflamed. I am finally able to open the eye to apply the ointment where it was previously too painful to do without using both hands to keep it open while Phil put it in. I did ask for the numbing drops, or at least for him to put something in before I left the office but he wouldn't give me anything. - Andrizzle Gizzle
Jannifer no problem you didn't highjack. He will have a better idea of the damage tomorrow I guess. I was hoping the vico would help me fall asleep but it's not. I think it did help with the pain though. - Andrizzle Gizzle
Holy cow. Feel better. And here I thought my hairspray incident sucked earlier. Dayum. - Leslie Poston
yikes! I wonder if it would be worth it to see a different dr. He doesn't sound like he gave you everything you needed - Jannifer @wordsforliving
uh god joey I do not even want to know how you got soup in your eye. I bet that hurt like hellllll. - Andrizzle Gizzle
Joey - boiling soup eye burn!!! ouch! - Jannifer @wordsforliving
I can hardly handle the thought of these eye injuries - I'm an "eye fainter" - I become unconscious if anything touches my eye, even during normal eye exams! - Jannifer @wordsforliving
Well I just think most eye drs probably don't keep a lot of stuff on hand because 95% of their customers are normal eye exams. And probably they don't do the numbing stuff because it would be super easy to further injure it. Luckily I think eye injuries heal pretty fast. And Shelby is acting very worried but I don't blame her, I mean obviously she didn't hurt me on purpose. - Andrizzle Gizzle
Sounds like a total pain. If only there were some way to blame this on Phil! - Louis Gray
I think it's Phil fault for letting me ever even get a dog. wtf was he thinking! - Andrizzle Gizzle
That's not just a dog. That's Shelby you're talking about. Besides, she was probably getting back at you following the "Shelby is a Slut" incident of June 2009. - Louis Gray
