is friendfeed useful at all if you don't participate? Are there FF lurkers?
What's a lurker? - directeur
No reason why it wouldn't/shouldn't be - even if all you do is use the search facility. - Aviv
i think its still useful w/out participation - it aggregates presence of those we're interested in following so links and such flow through in one place that alone w/out comments/likes makes it really useful - the participate just makes it so much better for those that want to engage... - mike "glemak" dunn
Ok - but I'd find it horribly boring not to participate. Maybe I'm just being self-centered. :) - Tad from fftogo
@tad: it would be boring for me, too. - edythe
I think it's a viable news source, so yeah, I could see lurking involved. Just not from me. :) - Heather Nasca Dulin
agreed, on the boring part ;) - mike "glemak" dunn
It's useful as a place to read the blog posts and more of folks I follow. Has all but replaced a feed reader for me. - Todd Jordan
ff is an aggregator/collector first and foremost by design, so of course it is useful for lurkers - Michael W. May from twhirl
A lurker is someone who views content but doesn't participate. Goes way back to usenet days with the majority of folks just lurking in the background. - Tad from fftogo
Something about the interface prevents me from lurking as much as I usually do. It's so easy to post and almost everyone has such smart and funny stuff to say that I must respond to. - Kamilah Gill
Does it break the pattern if I stop lurking to say I lurk? - Jonas, Leper of FF
lol - now that is funny jonas, your first and only comment on this thread - well played :-p - mike "glemak" dunn
+1 for lurkers who place first comment ever on this thread :-) - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
FriendFeed is totally useful if you lurk. A person that is shy online may not necessarily be shy in the real world. I think that it is possible for an Internet-shy person to subscribe to all of his friends' FriendFeeds and then talk in real life about the stuff that's being shared. - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
FriendFeed doesn't give you Karma. That's over on plurk - MaryAnn Chick Whiteside
Karma? Vade retro satana! :) - directeur

Who's your guess for Democratic VP?
Robert Mugabe? - john conroy
HRC - Steve Rubel
Lot of people would like Clinton. But I would say she should stick to being senator.VP is a lame duck position and she with her abilities will be very restricted and cant do much - Arjun
Edwards, but I'm Canadian and don't know squat about such things. :) - Mark Dykeman
Hillary doesn't deserve to be vice president after what she has done. - Kyle Weller
Someone most of us have never heard of. - Ontario Emperor from fftogo
HRC - Peter Dawson
Anybody but Hillary - Sally Church from Alert Thingy
HRC to lock in a win for the party, found her speech a bit petty though... - Brooklyn Art Project
I dream of an Obama/Edwards ticket - Liz Polay-Wettengel
If he's smart: Edwards or Biden. If he's desperate: HRC - Shey, Jamaican of FF
desperate?...you mean flippin retarded - Anthony
I'm guessing not the Reverend Jeramiah? - Steven Di Pietro
Ha pietro, maybe hell go with pastor ed hagey, or scooter libby - Anthony
I think that Reverend Wright would be his first choice. - Paula Hawk
Huh? :P - Yuvi
Liz, interesting, Obama and John Edwards? - Jeremiah Owyang
If McCain goes Huckabee, then Edwards. If he goes Crist, then one of the Virginians. - Robert Peterson
Edwards. Or Biden if he wants to have fun. - Mike Keliher
Definitely. I want change for the better, it is a long time coming. I think the Obama/Edwards ticket could bring us back to being a nation actually for the people. We need leaders who would actually rally behind us, support us, and make us proud of what we can accomplish again. Perhaps I'm being blinded by the concept that ANY change that could make things better, but a girl can dream. - Liz Polay-Wettengel
Edwards: do not want. Let him be AG. I"m guessing Richardson, but I WANT Wesley Clark. - Cyndy
No guess, but I don't think McCain will be a contingent factor; I think McCain will wait to name his VP till after Obama does. - Phil Crissman
Donna Brazile, she would turn some heads - Richie Escovedo
Edwards is a loser, nowhere near strong enough for the job. - dkb from Alert Thingy
i'm going for HRC, purely on the basis of the old maxim: keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer - Iain Baker
I've heard Tom Ridge's name tossed out-- that might be a good choice. - Heather Nasca Dulin
I agree with Iain Baker, then at least Obama will know where her fingers are... - Sabrina
Bill Richardson - Jason Runyan
I think Edwards has said no already. Bill Richardson, maybe? - ha3rvey (wants confit)
Rev. Wright ?!? - John (ColderICE)
Clinton doesn't deserve it especially after the assassination comment. - Akiva Moskovitz
Sam Nunn - Jeff Beckham
@Jeff My husand wants Nunn for SoD. He said the VP doesn't do enough to waste Nunn there. - Cyndy
Bill Richardson, New Mexico Governor - Clinton Schaff

Do you guys shut down your machines at the end of the day? Yes or No? (btw FriendFeed rooms needs a poll option)
Nope. I hardly ever turn it off. I go to sleep listening to my chat alert and twhirl alert sounds all night. - Howard O'Berry from twhirl
Yes, I shut mine down Mike to try and reduce the strain on the resources of this tired, old, but still faithful, computer. And yes I agree, a poll option would be neat. - Sharon McPherson
Yes, most of the time. Try to conserve electricity where I can. - Heather Nasca Dulin from twhirl
Yes, my generation has f****d this planet up enough already. Save juice! - AJCann
Btw, did u know that by turning off your pc when it is not in use that you can shave approximately $7 per month off your electricity bill? May not sound like a lot to some people, but I can sure use that extra $7 - to put gas in my car! - Sharon McPherson
not me - Thomas Ho from fftogo
I only shut it down on the weekends... I really should do it more but I always am half finished different things at the end of the day that I don't want to close - Natitude
yes, i don't want to fry my MacBook Pro. It cost too much! - Ethan Klapper
Yes, I shut down to save $$$. Plus, XP just isn't stable enough to keep running. - Mike Reynolds
Nope. I can't survive if I have downtime. - Tamar Weinberg
Yes. Saves some cost and for safety sake....via feedalizr - Jonathan Kong
Haven't shut down my MBP in ages. - Carlos Granier-Phelps from twhirl
I don't shut down my work PC. I do shut down my iMac @home. - Rubin Sfadj
yep, i turn everything off - fully off, even the monitors. but i'm also the sort of person who makes sure all the lights are off too when they're not needed! - stuart brown
Not me, but Im thinking of doing it for a full month just to see is theres any difference in the bill. - Gadiel Rivera
I hibernate it! - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
I put mine into sleep mode (well, the computer does it itself), but I turn off the lights on my keyboard (Logitech G15) and turn off my monitor. - Timothy Neilen
I put my macs to sleep and leave the dell running. I've read that I should now turn them off, but am still in the habit from years back when the IT staff was always telling us to leave them on. Also of course some processes are run at night, so it's handy for that. - Heidi Cool
shut down dosn't exist for me. 24/7 is the only path - Dobromir Hadzhiev from twhirl
My work computer goes to sleep M-T but its shut down on Friday. My home pc stays on almost 24/7 except for restarts, etc. - KACCKCM
shut down my office computer every day and my home computer most days when not using - jaybol
office one: yes. Home: no. - Wil
I also leave my Laptop running all the time, at work I always turn my machines off! - Joe Dawson
No...24/7 unless the power goes out. And yes, polls are needed on FF. - Shane Floyd
Why do we need polls? We are not majority but minority! If we agree with an issue we say it, we disagree we say it! Let's build a consensus not vote! - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
+1 to poll feature! Actually better yet, extend FF so that an external poll widget can be plugged into it. Hmm.. that'd make FF pretty bloated and kill usability. - Wil
Every network that I participated and observed that has polls I found the network distorted! Power users control it, and mob rules! You do not like Digg because the real issues get buried while the popular stuff gets a Digg! So why do you want polls here? Or we talking about different thing? I would not want someone voting on comment, if it is good or bad. - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
@Igor The Troll - I am not sure if MikeonTV is referring to voting on post or comments. What I think would be neat is if you could turn your post into a tallied poll. I may be wrong, but I think this is what MikeonTV is talking about also. - Shane Floyd
I prefer we talk about issues not vote on them! Voting does not really work as you have seen from American democracy! Is America truly democratic? - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
Yes I agree with you, talking about issues is what it is all about. I just believe, for a simple yes or no post such as this, a poll would work. - Shane Floyd
Is it simple? By talking about it, we educate ourselves about the benefits and the disadvantages of polling. - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
I shut mine down but I'm wondering what this has to do with the topic of 'social media'. - Maki
@Maki I'm treating rooms like a forum. Since there aren't sub-rooms yet I'm going to assume I can ask social media users anything I'm curious about regarding their activities and habits online. I wont be asking people what they had for breakfast here but this question is within the boundaries of social media. The answers were insightful as well. Thanks all! - MikeonTV

One in Four MBAs Want To Work At Google - http://www.alleyinsider.com/2008...
For some reason that terrifies me. Just me? - Steve Spalding
Google is the new Microsoft. - Kenneth LeFebvre
Scares me more than a little too. - Heather Nasca Dulin from twhirl
And there's another factor involved, which is that you can divide our industry into two kinds of people: those who want to go work for a company to make it successful, and those who want to go work for a successful company. Netscape's early success and rapid growth caused us to stop getting the former and start getting the latter. http://www.jwz.org/gruntle... - A.T.
talk about the kiss of death - leigh himel
There goes Google... - Alan Cheslow
I'll say something... MBAs TRAIL innovation. They always want to go to the LAST big thing. So this is a sign of maturity, not thoughtfulness. (Part of why I've never gone out to get an MBA) I think it was true when they all wanted to work at IBM and then Microsoft in previous decades as well. - Louis Gray
Guy Kawasaki blogged about how MBAs are often NOT taught to think like entrepreneurs. Hopefully this is changing at some schools. What is the percentage of recent MBAs who want to start their own company instead of working for Google or other large companies? Does anyone know stats? - Cathryn Hrudicka
What DO MBAs do anyway? - Yuvi
Worldwide MBAs aren't all equal, in the UK many people do their MBA in their mid-thirties as a was of continuing their professional development, rather than as a second degree shyrtly after their first. - Andy Davies
