The elephant in the room: Apple pulls a Microsoft, delays Leopard - http://digg.com/apple...
"Why on earth would anyone digg this down? (Though from the context I'm assuming he meant "can't keep shipping".) Mac OS X 10.0.0 definitely shipped a little uncooked, even though it needed to get out the door. I mean, it was missing basic things like wireless support, print drivers, a location manager, DVD movie viewing, and CD burning for half a year!" - Ryan Jay Schotte

Canadians may soon be able to drink their nicotine? - http://digg.com/health...
"I just had a thought - wouldn't a good way to ban cigarettes would be to prohibit sales to anyone born after, say, 1995? It'd slowly wean industry and governments off the revenue and taxes, and make sure that any existing addicts aren't suddenly deprived. I'm sure there'd be problems with this idea - and I dunno that this could ever work over there in the US? - but it /would/ end smoking in less than a century." - Ryan Jay Schotte

Girl snatched, killed in shopping centre - http://digg.com/odd_stu...
"Hey Farodek - you must not have read the earlier comments: the article has nothing to do with America or Americans. This happened in the southern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia - not far from here actually. The whole city is pretty shocked about what happened. But it is very 'unusual' for us to execute anyone in this country - the last time was 39 years ago, and that was almost accidental. We tend not to trust our government to kill us. If that works for you, then great... but you don't have a say in what happens here." - Ryan Jay Schotte

Analysis: What Bill Gates's Departure Means for Microsoft - http://digg.com/tech_ne...
"Oh, Microsoft isn't likely to go anywhere soon. They'll survive in one form or another, just like Sun and IBM are around long after their golden ages." - Ryan Jay Schotte

Apple Deja Vue: will they pull it off this time? - http://digg.com/apple...
"@skyshock21: If you're going to make a comment like that, would you please elaborate (because most of us are non-enterprise users) on where Open Directory is inadequate in comparison with Active Directory and eDirectory? http://www.apple.com/server..." - Ryan Jay Schotte

Captain Cook's ship, the Endeavour, found off the coast of Rhode Island - http://digg.com/general...
"Absolutely. The Endeavour is a such massive part New Zealand/Australian history. For us, this would be like finding the wreck of the Santa María or the Niña. "The shipwrecks are Rhode Island property, Abbass said. There are no plans to raise them." At least until some antipodean museums hear about this." - Ryan Jay Schotte

Australia's top spy agency has turned to Google to attract new recruits - http://digg.com/tech_ne...
"When I started uni a couple of years ago, I picked up a cool little black postcard from amongst all the rest of the pamphlets - it was a recruitment advert for ASIO. :) Still have it somewhere. Since they're hoping to recruit young people, universities and the Internet are probably great places for them to advertise. I didn't like their terms and conditions for even hearing what a job with them could involve though (but that's hardly unexpected). They really are a very secretive organisation that the public rarely hears anything about." - Ryan Jay Schotte
