what would you do, as a woman, if a guy handed this to you? Meat? Please...I think I'd call 911.
- lindsay
"That said, the guys behind MeatCards seem to be interested in finding a way to mark the cards with "Do Not Eat" to make it clear that they don't want you to eat them - it just opens them up to too many possible legal problems and regulations." Boooooooooo!
- Andrew C
Sorry, I'm all out of business cards. I ate them all. --->
- Admiral Anika
Unless you dedicate your laser cutter to meat only (and perhaps even then), you really wouldn't want to eat it -- the inside of the laser cutters I've seen reek with the smell of burnt plastic. You can laser food for fun (they have a class on the subject at TechShop for example), but...
- ⓞnor
Oh, meant to include citation, but the UI left it unclear as to how it was presenting the link. Not used to the changes. The original source was TechCrunch.
- Christopher Sacca
You would have to provide good ventilation and also a clean working surface. Not impossible, admittedly. There are certainly chefs who work with lasers in food preparation (most famously Homaru Canto at Moto).
- ⓞnor
If you eat one that you wanted to keep, just wait 24 hours and it will be back.
- Mattb4rd
I'd love to try using these in Japan. Given the reverence that's usually paid to the giving/receiving of business cards, if someone started gnawing on one, I think they'd just faint.
- Aaron D'Souza
Kick ass! I think I want one! I'll take yours :)
- Aaron Turpen
Where was Mr. Belvedere based? *edit: I Googled.
- Mona Nomura
Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh.
- Rochelle
I've always had the theory that Beavis and Butt-Head was set in Texas (where Mike Judge currently lives).
- John E. Bredehoft
I wonder where It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is set? No idea....
- Mark Traphagen
Wow, the Brady Bunch was in LA, but for some reason they traveled all the way to Cincinnati to go to Kings Island. Why not just go to Disneyland?
- Mike Reynolds
Sanford and Sun? ouch. it's SON - or big dummy.
- David Vasileff
This is so awesome. (Though I don't think Roswell was a sitcom)
- Dan Hsiao
He missed a lot of things, but that's ok. I've never seen anything like this. ;)
- Mona Nomura
What I just noticed is he probably has the second shortest hair after Ike (bald) and John Quincy Adams (#6 for those who don't know).
- Andrew Leyden
i'm confused Tobias, not sure what you mena. Clearly yes, race has played a big role in this election.
- Zee.
Obama is the first president without grey hair? Really?
- Peter
Tobias, voting for or against Obama based on race would have been to vote ignoring all the other other issues at hand so it wasn't a focal point. Now that he's won we're free to focus on the historical moment of having our first minority President and what that means and says about us as a country.
- David Knight
@David Knight I think you nailed it. The focus on race that you see right now shouldn't be classed as "since Obama won" but "at the moment of his winning." We have crossed a boundary. We should take note. Now that we've crossed, our attention to Obama's race will dissipate. On the other hand, the fact of his race, name, and lineage will loom large in foreign policy throughout his presidency.
- Michael Markman
@gregory lent. Hmm. I see humans. Don't you?
- Michael Markman
just realised ceebee posted this earlier - sorry man, didn't realise.
- Zee.
@gregory. It isn't just coincidence that all 44 are male, and 43 are white. If we want to follow the path to ensuring that differences are not barriers, we can't deny that historically they have been. Following that path requires us to cross some boundaries into new territory. This graphic marks one such boundary. I believe it puts us closer to your wish of "human not color"
- Michael Markman
We've come far, FAR, in what amounts to only a couple generations. With not only the memory, but the living memory, still so fresh in so many, acknowledging and even celebrating each step down that road to unity is to pay respect to those did and gave so much to bring us this far.
- Michael W. May
I completely agree with your last statement Gregory so why have you bought it up in the first place? (in your first comment)
- Zee.
Celebration and Acknowledgment, even Discussion surrounding a Black Man as US President shouldn't be expunged, ignored, or stifled based on the We're All Created Equal argument. That sounds fairly bananas to me.
- Marko Bon
There's been some focus on race last night and today, but it will probably die down, just as the focus on gender died down within a few days of Pelosi's elevation to Speaker of the House, or O'Connor's elevation to the Supreme Court. Pelosi and O'Connor were eventually evaluated based upon the issues, and Obama will be (and has been) evaluated based on the same.
- Ontario Emperor
i'd have to agree - lets agree on blocking together eh? :)
- Zee.
before, it was a talking point. Today it's history, something that sends a huge message to the rest of the world. South Africa did it before us, now we're in the 20th century. 20th.
- randulo
You can have unity and still see that people are different. Recognizing and accepting our differences can make us stronger. Unity, not uniformity!
- David Knight
Damn, Cotton Hill has been elected a lot of times!

"This is the image that crystallized, in Colin Powell's mind, how the GOP has completely gone off the tracks in polarizing this country. Think what you will of Powell himself, his reference to this photograph as a statement of inclusion and as a rebuttal to the hate being spread by his friend John McCain and Sarah Palin serves as just one more endorsement for America's return to sanity (as well as the power of visual politics). PDN has backstory."

I've been angry with Powell since his Iraq/WMDs UN speech parroting the BS from the Bush admin. I've always liked him and felt "a little" sorry for him when he resigned. He's not redeemed himself, in my eyes, with this endorsement, but it makes me feel better about him anyway. A very reasonable, calm assessment of what's actually been going on in the two campaigns. Unlike his UN Speech.
- Rick Powell
I thought it was good of her to be on the show.
- Drew Lucas
Seeing Alec Baldwin criticize her right next to her (pretending she was Tina) was pretty intense
- anna sauce
I found her participation rather awkward. It was obviously tempered by judgments about what she would and not do, the opening press conference, the rap segment. She was there as an onlooker, not a participant.
- Rod Bauer
from twhirl
Just like the presidential campaign Rod :)
- Paul Buchheit
I thought she seemed pained, but she was there. I give her immense credit for that, especially when she said, "Caribou Barbie."
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
Gosh! Just saw the last SNL. I can't believe Sarah Palin agreed to go for it! Is her campaign counting on 'she-so-cool-she-take-fun-in-her-stride'? @anna yup, that bit with Alec criticizing her was too much.
- Parth Awasthi
The rap was awesome, but said as much about how funny Amy Poehler is as Palin's ability/willingness to poke fun at herself (or let others do so in her presence).
- Heidi Moon
You know, I can see Palin as a talk show host or something. She's attractive and can speak well when scripted and has a nice bit of the country who likes her. VP - eh, not so much.
- Vince DeGeorge
seems like a talk show needs someone who can *extemporize* more than read from a *script*... as for attractive, well, de gustibus, etc. but i seriously doubt anyone tunes into leno, conan, larry king etc. for the pretty face of the interviewer. still, i have no doubt she'll find something else to do. i mean, tonya harding did, and this race is turning out to be the political equivalent of tonya harding trying to kneecap nancy kerrigan. ;-)
- Karim
Found the whole thing to be laugh out loud funny, kudo's to Palin for showing up
- amelia arapoff
Someone put it well yesterday: "What exactly was the point of Sarah Palin appearing on SNL? The reason for a politician to appear on a television show, is to give us a side of them we haven't seen. Palin set out to show that she can be light and fluffy, when the whole country already knows that's all she is." http://www.236.com/blog...
- Christopher Galtenberg
"is there a problem with 7-year old muslim-americans not thinking they can be President?" wow- what a great guy. Finally someone is saying the truth. This isn't the America.. .if they think Muslims can't be president.
- anna sauce
Ditto @anna. Gen. Powell's endorsement is one of the best summaries I've heard of the differences between the two campaigns and the strengths/weaknesses of each. But the absolute best part was pointing out that not only is Obama not a Muslim, but it *doesn't matter* anyway.
- Heidi Moon
I agree -- even outside of the endorsement and comments on the campaigns, these are the sorts of things we need to hear from more political leaders
- Tom Stocky
He's spot-on. I couldn't have said it better myself.
- Gabe
I got a Viper toy for Christmas in 1978 when I was in 3rd grade from one of my boy cousins. It shot red plastic laser bullets and was later recalled when a couple of kids choked on same. Ah, those where the days.
- Heidi Moon
I love the quote that the problems with the housing market have been eight times harder on McCain ha!
- Joe Dawson
Good humoured banter. Nice to see the candidates with a sense of humour during the campaign.
- Chris Nixon
Its great to think that after the division between candidates, parties and America in the past months, this sort of event could occur. I loved it! Both were great, and we needed a refreshing moment to sit back and realize that at the end of the day, one of the more crucial aspects to life is the ability to laugh.
- jcunwired
McCain was the best I have *ever* seen him. Won't change my vote, of course, but the McCain in this video is a lot more like the one we used to see before the 2000 elections.
- Chris Baskind
both were pretty funny....but i think obama won the standup debate :)
- don loeb
McCain was hilarious. As an Obama supporter, I am glad he wasn't that good during all of his other speeches ;)
- Bret Taylor
One of my favorite lines was "Many of you know that I got my name, Barack, from my father. What you may not know is that Barack is actually Swahili for 'that one'. And I got my middle name from somebody who obviously didn't think I'd ever run for president."
- Bret Taylor
Agree with Bret. McCain's comedic timing was a lot better than Obama's
- Deepak Singh
This is really cool! FUNNY!!!!!!! thanks for sharing!! :)
- Susan Beebe
Amen, @Chris B. If only the whole campaign were this funny and civil.
- Heidi Moon
Hehe. Roast. Conjures up funny images to people here in the UK.
- Slappy Line
They were both hilarious! Their writers need to work in comedy :) I thought Obama was the funniest, but then I am an Obama fan so may be biased.
- Sheila Taylor
Hey FF! Some friends and I built this app to help you socially pressure and "bribe" your friends to vote for Barack. It would mean a lot to me if you gave it a whirl and got it out to your pals. Go Obama!

Thanks Chris, I'm glad y'all included the origami unicorns. Now I just have to learn to make them...
- Ruchira S. Datta
@Gabe Check out the app and you will get it right away. I am really psyched to see it taking off, actually. Spreading quickly!
- Christopher Sacca
Apparently this requires a Facebook account. Is there a simple way to understand?
- Gabe
You really don't do Facebook? Basically, this app allows users to "trade" quirky favors in exchange for their friends promising to vote for Obama. Stuff like giving them shotgun in the car, making them a mix tape, or slow dancing with them. It is growing really fast right now, so psyched to see it resonating.
- Christopher Sacca
So what kind of quirky favor is a moustache? You grow one in exchange for a vote? Or you give one to somebody?
- Gabe
Dude, seriously, try Facebook. If only just to know what everyone else is talking about. I assure you it will be eye opening. :)
- Christopher Sacca
Ok, I sent out several requests and not just to people I already know will vote Obama. It's hard to beleive this could be the kind of thng that makes a difference, but you can never be too careful.
- Clare Dibble
So, one of the ideas behind this was some research we saw showing that young people are most likely to follow through on an action if they make a personal commitment to a friend. My biggest fear from youth in this election is not that they don't care. Quite the contrary, I think we have a more informed and engaged young voter demographic than in recent history. Nevertheless, the predictions of their likelihood of actually showing up to the polls are discouraging. Thus, these efforts. We will see :)
