sean: no, just 20 things demoed about it. I don't know that it'll help. Probably just bore everyone. UPDATE: the video is here: http://www.kyte.tv/scoblei...
- Robert Scoble
I have to say, the only time I can really express the value of FF is when people get annoyed with Twitter, and I say, it'd be nice to have an aggregator, right? And then, they get it. Or a big bubble diagram showing RSS feeds and overlaps
- anna sauce
Thanks Robert. Great overview of FF. Where do I send a check? :)
- Joe Lima
Great, I'm going back and forth from the video as I set up a friendfeed account. Thanks!
- David Creelman
Good work. Thank you. I want to know more about the email to FF tip you mentioned. What will part 2 have in it? ;-)
- Amani
I really wish folks would get that concept. I get so tired of people obsessing over who is following, who is not, who unfollowed, how many, etc, etc. Follow quality, attract quality.
- Karoli
Karoli: exactly, which is why I don't autofollow anymore (turned that off earlier this year over on Twitter). I hand pick who I follow here and only am looking to follow smart, interesting, people. By being choosy with my inputs I will have better output, which you can see at http://www.friendfeed.com/scoblei...
- Robert Scoble
You'll get from Twitter what you give to Twitter
- paul mooney
Goes back to actions speak louder than words. Look at who a person associates with to get the honest truth about that person.
- David Bisset (sn)
Brian: heaven will be attained when you have a perfect list of people you want to follow. :-)
- Robert Scoble
ha3rvey: I need coffee too. Mike, it is a stunning morning here in Half Moon Bay. I think I'll post a photo of the clouds going by.
- Robert Scoble
Sometimes the obvious truth is not so obvious. I thoroughly enjoy my experience here because I chose (and choose) to follow those whose content I find interesting. And by filteriing out the content I don't find interesting.
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
Oddly, was having this same discussion about following vs. followers on another site yesterday. Some people oddly obsess with how many followers they have. I'm focused on finding and following interesting people.
- Sally Church
I follow who I follow because they are worth following - TO ME - which is arbitrary and completely subjective. I refuse to waste any time crafting my content to attract followers because who follows me is largely arbitrary and subjective.
- Brian Roy
Brian: then you'll get arbitrary and subjective followers, which explains why I am following you. :-)
- Robert Scoble
Yeah, but I'm here for the arbitrary and subjective - If I just wanted to hear what I already think I could just stick up post it notes all day and congratulate myself on how smart I am :)
- Brian Roy
Brian: isn't that what Twitter is for? :-)
- Robert Scoble
Arbitrary, subjective and often whimsical. That's my take and I'm sticking to it. I'm amazed people want to listen to me. I'm much more interested in what other folks have to say. Especially smart ones.
- Karoli
Too bad my "smartest" thoughts show up in the shower or other places I wouldn't use a laptop at. :-p
- Amit Morson
My Zen thought for the morning: focus on your inner creative conservation, and forget the rest.
- Sean McBride
*nods* It's all about simplicity: don't think TOO much, people!
- Iain Baker
@Robert In the last few weeks, for some reason, I've doubled my Twitter followers. Some have even expressed an expectation of interesting tweets. Do I now have a responsibility to provide interesting content?
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
If you book them... They will come... :)
- Daniel Zarick
The science of "Followership"? http://tinyurl.com/5k39j7 Some key points. The Leader-Follower loop: Leaders create followers create leaders.
- Mac Taylor
Mark: Tweet your passions and pass along the best of the people who you are following and more followers will come. :-) If you stop, no one will notice because someone else will take your spot up on the Twitter page.
- Robert Scoble
I always have tweeted my passions, but I seldom have recommended a new follow. I shall endeavor mor of that. Thanks for the tip!
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
Robert, have become so involved in the tasty morsels here have forgotten to keep tweeting my passions. Duh... thanks for the reminder.
- Nicola Quinn
I had this thought this weekend actually and decided to do some purging of "noise" (thanks Godin). Makes for a much better friendfeed experience as well.
- WiseYoda (aka Patrick)
Perfection is achieved not when there is no-one left to follow, but when there is no-one left to un-follow. ... Wait. That sounds wrong. Needs work.
- DGentry
Thanks for that, Robert. Really wish sometimes people would stop trying to beat quality with quantity.
- Paul Papadimitriou
I'll second Paul Papadimitriou here. Quality matters but sometimes you have to follow for some time before deciding if you want to stick with it.
- sofiagk
Dear GoDaddy, I like your service and your prices but please. Stop with the damn upsell! Make your product offerings simpler, don't make me have to go through and check nothing has been 'upgraded' for me
oh Audible, I LOVE Audible, the greatest site EVER:)

I'm not a theist myself. However you churchgoers do have the advantage that you believe evil exists in the world that would match the level of those behind the inside job of 9/11: http://friendfeed.com/rooms...
- bill giltner
how is this book so far? I started Purpose Driven Life a while back...
- Paul Otto
jason: that is the one problem I can envision with open editing of mahalo. Especially for a 1st time visitor, it could seriously detract from their experience, maybe even driving them away from the site
- Grant
btw excited to be a member of the Jason nation newsletter!!!
- Grant
was that the only real abuse today? bet it will be pretty minimal going forward
- sean percival
Grant: It's definitely a risk we run by opening up the site. But we do have people watching the changes as they're being made, and it's extremely quick and easy for us to rollback pernicious changes.
- Lon Harris
from twhirl
Great. When doing researrch, I always check mahalo before wikipedia. Very reliable. As long as it keeps growing out, mahalo will be the only place to do research
- Grant
there was very little vandalism today... just dopes like Ted who vandalize, take a screen shot and the blog it saying "FAIL!" --- wow. I bet at some point someone will vandalize Wikipedia and take a screen shot! We've got folks watching the site constantly, so the longest something will be up is a few minutes.
- Jason Calacanis
vandalism has never really stopped wikipedia from being successful, and mahalo has comparatively greater checks and balances, so in the end a couple of stupid vandals probably won't have an adverse effect, imo
- Erin
@Aaron: it reminds me of a chat room. a/s/l anyone?
- Mona Nomura
"Ridiculously featureless." Well put. Not to mention it's really really slow. It's a good thing they have XMPP connectivity out of the box, since that's the only way it's remotely usable.
- Albert Willis
its more like we flock to these other services to lay claim to our handles, or else you are like scoble and they get scooped up.
- Andrea Baker
If identi.ca had a fail whale, we'd have already sighted it spout. Of course, it's really early ...
- Chris Baskind
Gee. It was working fine a minute ago. ;-)
- Leo Laporte
Had a look at identi.ca, but think friendfeed will be my new drug of choice
- James Fridley
I kind of hate it already, and I just joined tonight. I'm sticking with Twitter/FF
- Veronica
Anybody remember what Twitter looked like on it's first day live?
- Ken Sheppardson
MASS MIGRATION!! I see over 1,000 unique users already in 1 day! dang this app is going viral fast!... already got an outage error... we need a "fail MOOSE"
- Susan Beebe
I can't call them "tweets", and calling them "identi" is just weird
- xero
Seriously, they're already moving servers apparently according to the head guy there once it finally calmed down.
- Zach Flauaus
@Mona people complain but only for so long... remember - everybody left DOS years ago...
- Harry Myhre
Zach: who's the "head guy" @ identi.ca ??
- Susan Beebe
i'm willing to test out any of these microblogging platforms to find one that consistently works
- Chris
startups that experience exponential growth get slammed with new users... thus the performance hits on their servers = crawl
- Susan Beebe
Not sure if he's the "head guy" but Evan Prodromou (evan here and on identi.ca) is certainly up the chain. I've seen him described as the author in other threads.
- Ken Sheppardson
I'll stick with Twitter and Friend Feed for now. I've been to a few different places and it just doesn't feel right. Yeah, Twitter is down a lot, but I still like it. I also am liking FF too, because people can leave comments.
- Mol, Time Warping
FriendFeed is MY killer app.. the rest are time sucks
- Susan Beebe
FriendFeed is the definitive microblogging app for me. Twitter is just another FF plugin.
- Antony Jepson
I signed in with openid (liked that), uploaded an avatar and made a post. But I don't know if I want to put any effort into subscribing to anyone. I mean the people I want to follow (subscribe to) are mostly hear or on FF. Maybe I am just being lazy.
- Andrea Baker
The twitter clones all seem to have at least one defining thing going for them, but identi.ca is very plain. It seems like twitter with *less* features.
- Patrick
from twhirl
Apart from communities on twitter-clones tending to be much smaller than on twitter itself, if you make a straight up clone, you will probably end up with the same technical problems Twitter has. You'd have to change something quite radical on the architecture side of things.
- Horst Gutmann
Ugh, I hope people don't start using it. Now that I've finally left Twitter, I'm pretty content with FriendFeed.
- Dillon K. Hoops
@Igor You have that backwards. ;) Personally I'm liking FriendFeed. It's like an open architecture FaceBook. The only things I'd change is a better mobile interface, the ability to SMS/IM in shares, and the ability to comment on/like comments. That's it. The feature I love the most is the Imaginary Friend feature.
