I have to say, the only time I can really express the value of FF is when people get annoyed with Twitter, and I say, it'd be nice to have an aggregator, right? And then, they get it. Or a big bubble diagram showing RSS feeds and overlaps

I really wish folks would get that concept. I get so tired of people obsessing over who is following, who is not, who unfollowed, how many, etc, etc. Follow quality, attract quality.

Sometimes the obvious truth is not so obvious. I thoroughly enjoy my experience here because I chose (and choose) to follow those whose content I find interesting. And by filteriing out the content I don't find interesting.

Oddly, was having this same discussion about following vs. followers on another site yesterday. Some people oddly obsess with how many followers they have. I'm focused on finding and following interesting people.

I follow who I follow because they are worth following - TO ME - which is arbitrary and completely subjective. I refuse to waste any time crafting my content to attract followers because who follows me is largely arbitrary and subjective.

jason: that is the one problem I can envision with open editing of mahalo. Especially for a 1st time visitor, it could seriously detract from their experience, maybe even driving them away from the site

Great. When doing researrch, I always check mahalo before wikipedia. Very reliable. As long as it keeps growing out, mahalo will be the only place to do research

there was very little vandalism today... just dopes like Ted who vandalize, take a screen shot and the blog it saying "FAIL!" --- wow. I bet at some point someone will vandalize Wikipedia and take a screen shot! We've got folks watching the site constantly, so the longest something will be up is a few minutes.

vandalism has never really stopped wikipedia from being successful, and mahalo has comparatively greater checks and balances, so in the end a couple of stupid vandals probably won't have an adverse effect, imo

I signed in with openid (liked that), uploaded an avatar and made a post. But I don't know if I want to put any effort into subscribing to anyone. I mean the people I want to follow (subscribe to) are mostly hear or on FF. Maybe I am just being lazy.

Apart from communities on twitter-clones tending to be much smaller than on twitter itself, if you make a straight up clone, you will probably end up with the same technical problems Twitter has. You'd have to change something quite radical on the architecture side of things.

@Igor You have that backwards. ;) Personally I'm liking FriendFeed. It's like an open architecture FaceBook. The only things I'd change is a better mobile interface, the ability to SMS/IM in shares, and the ability to comment on/like comments. That's it. The feature I love the most is the Imaginary Friend feature.
