"To effectively gather electricity from wind power, you need a strong breeze going. Along those lines, a company called KiteGen Research figures that wind currents only get strong the higher you go — so why not just go up to 2,600 feet?"

"70 people spent four years collecting golden orb spiders from telephone poles in Madagascar, while another dozen workers carefully extracted about 80 feet of silk filament from each of the arachnids. The resulting 11-foot by 4-foot textile is the only large piece of cloth made from natural spider silk existing in the world today."

"Most folks know the cheetah’s top speed of 70 mph makes it the fastest land animal. But what’s the runner-up? Turns out it’s the pronghorn. The deerlike mammal cruises at 35 mph and can hit 50. Its velocity is thought to have been a defense against cheetahs that lived in North America eons ago. Often overlooked, number twos can show how close the race is—or how far ahead a number one really is"

Water on Earth looks blue because it reflects the blue sky. Can someone explain to me how the water in this shot is blue when there is no blue sky on the moon. Checks diary. No, it's not April.

"Data from three spacecraft indicate that a thin film of water coats the surface of the soil in at least some spots" So yes the "photo" is slightly altered. There where only four paragraphs to read folks.

"Pencils made from the carbon of human cremains. 240 pencils can be made from an average body of ash - a lifetime supply of pencils for those left behind. Each pencil is foil stamped with the name of the person. Only one pencil can be removed at a time, it is then sharpened back into the box causing the sharpenings to occupy the space of the used pencils. Over time the pencil box fills with sharpenings - a new ash, transforming it into an urn. The window acts as a timeline, showing you the amount of pencils left as time goes by."

The twist with the highly popular reCaptcha is that it’s also used to help turning scanned books into searchable digital text... something Google aims to apply for their books and newspaper digitization projects, too, to help with the quality of their existing OCR (Optical Character Recognition)

Thanks Zee. Interesting move with the Nano having a video camera instead of the iPod Touch. A real shame but a good way of pushing people to the iPhone. And why you can't take stills, only video, I don't know...

Curious to see if Rockbox can be updated to hack at the camera capabilities of the nano to add in still photos and maybe more...

iPod Touch is not iPhone but phone anymore. It's now iPhone but phone & camera. It was really attractive but now considering the lack of camera and high price here in my country, I would think twice before making the decision.
