Just what _the hell_ was he hoping to do, and did he swallow anything .. like his tongue, or some teeth, perhaps? So many questions...

Funny, but it's a good thing FF is real-time now, so this GIF will soon disappear from view.

Classic clip from 'So You Think You Can Dance'. Good times.

My guess is that he had never actually tried to do that flip before. He was just so full of himself he figured he could. Looks easy, right?
- Chrimmus Tad
That was the winner from "So You Think You Can SLAM Dance?" ;)
- Jericho
OUCH! The So You Think You Can Dance auditions are always good for at least a couple of these. :) I need to find out when that's starting up again...or I could just calculate based on how many more weeks of American Idol there are, I guess.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Makes it look like he never practiced at all! At least he'll get his 15 minutes of fame, though I'm imagining he didn't want that kind.

ouch ! :-/ do you know what happened after ? did he break his face? well... that would have been an appropriate move for "break" dance =P lol

I hate watching these videos because I keep wondering what happened after, what was the damage!!.. Damn it there is no point in watching if you dont know the result.
- denizoktar
I really think it has improved in the past spurt of shows. It was awful last year but I like they way it is progressing now.
- Andrew
I gave up on Lost and Heroes after one or two seasons. I loved them both, but they went from a cool story to plot devices to extend things for N more seasons, and it just started to annoy me.
- Bret Taylor
@Bret: You should give Lost another shot! They finally started to explain the mysteries last season and it's become gripping again. @Andrew: I think Heroes has gotten worse over the last few episodes, especially the cheesy Claire storyline.
- Jess Lee
The most recent storyline has been pretty decent. And the first was of course great. However, I'm actually pretty surprised it was renewed (because of the terribleness of the second season and first half of this season and the dwindling viewership). Hmm.
- Chieze Okoye
I really don't understand how NBC let Heroes get so bad. The way I see it, they've created a show called "Heroes" about a group of people with super powers who do nothing except run around helpless and whining. I enjoyed Heroes the most at the end of Season 1 when Peter had amassed so many powers he seemed well on his way to becoming Superman. Right now the only character with any potential is Sylar, but he's off on his personal Feelings Crusade. Is it so hard to realize this is all terribly boring?
- Tom Harrison
I think stories about people with powers inevitably run into “inflation”. In order to keep it exciting, you have to increase the protagonist's power, but to compensate you also have to increase the villain's power. This is fine at the beginning but it's not sustainable. You have to reset things (Peter losing his powers) or you have to end the story (dropping the One Ring into Mount Doom) or limit them (“level 80” in World of Warcraft) or you end up with ridiculous levels of power with unfun stories.
- Amit Patel
@Amit, Unless you write it well, which no one on the show has. And for me, it was never the powers or the action that kept it gripping, but rather the characters that have these powers.
- Jon, the Chilled Beartato
I think the only reasonable solution is to end it. The problem is that if something is good, no one (producers, fans) really want it to end, so you end up with these outrageous plot devices. I think if they went in saying "this is going to be a three season show if it does well, but the first season is reasonably self-contained if it gets canceled" (and they had the plot outlined for all three seasons) most shows like this would be a lot better.
- Bret Taylor
Can someone, anyone, please tell me what is up with Claire's mother's mouth? Did she have stroke or something? I can't stop staring at it when she talks...
- Kevin Pedraja
Bret, I read an opinion piece a while back to that effect. That shows should have fixed runs that shouldn't be extended, that it would work out to better quality and give the actors more options when the run is over (go into movies etc...). If more story was needed a second fixed run "sequel" would be commissioned to continue the series. I think some british shows follow this model.
- mikepk
The whole fighting the government thing is just tired. The damn show is titled Heroes. What's heroic about it?
- Todd Hoff
Agree with folks that Peter sucks now that he lost all his powers. Sylar is the best character currently, but it would be nice if he went back to NOT looking for his father.
- elroy
Amit that's why the show can't be about powers, it has to be about relationships and goals and people. That's pretty much gone now.
- Todd Hoff
@Amit: Also known as Dragonball syndrome? =)
- Daniel Bruce
So, I personally think that the Superheroes vs Government storyline was some of the best stuff in X-men and can be really thought provoking as a theme of story when done well. I just like when the "when does 'what is right' not correspond with 'what is legal'?" question is asked. See: recent Civil War arc in Marvel Comics, for instance. Anyway, I think that Heroes is executing it moderately well, but it's not great or anything.
- Chieze Okoye
Also, I think that Amit hit the nail on the head. Peter was becoming a God character. I think, though, this doesn't excuse the poor writing that has gone down recently. It does come down to the interpersonal relationships and that's what made the first season so good (and the second and the beginning of the third so terrible). But still Peter the walking plot hole had to be addressed. The stupid Peter-hugging-obviously-evil-father thing was weak, though.
- Chieze Okoye
@Chieze -- That is a perfect description of how ridiculously overpowered Peter was: "Peter the walking plot hole"
- Jess Lee
first 2 seassons have been great. the 3rd is horrible...exept for sylar. the show needs more plot twists and heroes working against each other. this government underground vs all heroes is so silly and boring. there are no surprises anymore lately
- Chris Hofmann
The first 2 series where good - after that the show just went downhill.
- Nicholas James
I still think Sylar should have died at the end of season 1 . And yes more of these shows need a fixed episode limit. 3 seasons no more.
- Nesta Campbell
They are so good, if I told you right now they had crack in it, you'd go "I knew something was up, I knew these donuts were too damn good, man. Got me knocking on the window at 2 o'clock in the morning. 'Come on man, open up man, give me one more donut. I'll do anything!'"

"Naturally, taking care of a baby is a chore on its own, but getting pregnant is my present challenge. In less than two weeks, I will be ovulating, which as everyone should know is primetime for baby making. The problem is that I don't yet have a partner for this process. Now, I'm not looking for a source of child support or a baby-daddy in the sense that he should have any supportive role in the pregnancy or in raising the child, I just need some good, hearty seed."

it seems kind of odd that shes giving up looking at the ripe old age of 26
- bob
I wonder when some young woman will look for someone to donate sperm so that she can become a mother in China? Bet it won't take long to happen. Maybe it has already? Anybody know?
- Paul Denlinger
That's unsettling on so many levels. Are babies toys now? Commodities? You want one, you get one?
- Pascal-Emmanuel Gobry
To each their own, but I think my commentary as a mother, would be too large for this forum. Lets just say that this woman seems a bit immature, despite her planning to be otherwise. Wait 5 more years and maybe I might think otherwise. She said that she is working on her JD, has she taken family law yet?
- InPerpetualMotion(Gina k)
"Now, my first thought was to go to a sperm bank because it doesn't get much more NSA than that, but I had to reject this idea. First, pay for semen? Really?? That notion goes into the same bucket as paying for air or sunshine or, well, sex." Epic! :-)

from twhirl
What Pascal said. She's not thinking about the child.
- Alejandro
She's only 26 and doesn't think she'll find anyone in the not so near or distant future. You know what that is? That is the silly mind of a 26 year old talking. You still got many years girl (to be fair I'm only 23 but come on this is just silly)
- Bartek Ciszkowski
OMG. How about she comes to deal with my kids for a week. Or better yet, my former method of birth control: Toys R Us on a Saturday right around lunch time. I LOVE babies, but they turn into cranky 8-year-olds.
- Cyndy
you would be surprised how many 1st world women are like this. it is one of those things that make the feminist movement a moot point when we deal with Madonna or Paris Hilton archetypes the male is disposable. my mother wrote a play in the 80's called "Generic Father" and it pretty much deals with this. While yes women are looking for a strong male for support, if their support system is already strong like in upper class families then this could be a libidinal desire to rid of the male.
- Noah David Simon
one of the mistakes the egalitarians have made is in assuming there aren't libidinal drivers guiding women. The more we learn about women the more we find that they have instincts just like men do and the huge mistake of Gloria Steinem and her ilk is in assuming that these instincts could be parallel to men. The desire to mother is not culturally learned. If a woman finds herself without needs for financial support, then her driving motives in looking for a mate could be very different.
- Noah David Simon
a woman in this type of situation might surround herself with weak candidates. Again her needs to mother and care for the weak kick in. She might even be very hostile to strong men... at the point where she decides she wants a healthy baby she might be more happy with the DNA of stranger outside of her sphere. How can we offer people happiness if we pretend to understand what happiness is along male metaphor?
- Noah David Simon
I'm surprised the reaction here is so negative. She is right that her fertility is peaking. Have any of you struggled with fertility? She seems to be somewhat stable and certainly more qualified to be a single mom than some of the single moms I have known. Would it be better if she pretended to be in love with some loser for two weeks? I say she should go for it.
- Clare Dibble
=Clare, I can't find what there is to criticize here. Certainly one always approaches single parenthood with some trepidation, but she sounds like she's examined the alternatives and found them wanting. Also, where does this whole commodity/doesn't-want-to-be-a-mother idea come from? I don't see that in there.
- j1m
I think her attitude is a bit flippant, but there is some truth in it. Males contribution to the birthing procedure is only minimal. That being said, I think life is easier and more enjoyable as a couple, and having a child on her own will reduce her chances of finding a mate. (When I was 25 and looking, I excluded women with children. I might feel differently if I was 35).
- Robert Felty
Of course Clare and j1m make some good points. Another good point comes from one of the comments on the blog. The potential donor could be liable for child support payments through the law. That is more of a risk for the donor though.
- Robert Felty
So how many people here emailed her? :)
- Paul Buchheit
dunno how many mailed, but... in same paragraph she claims to be scientist and still believes in control over chromosomes acting... not worth even opening email :D
- A.T.
My first reaction was she WON'T BE (damn typo) looking all hot and chill Sidekickin' it with her Macbook out on her spiff leather couch if she gets what she thinks she wants. Just a kid wanting a new toy, sounds like.
- abacab
Paul - LOL good one! I am wondering if this is for real, or a joke? weird
- Susan Beebe
@@abe - maybe she should enter a poker tournament.
- Robert Felty
She's only 26! I guess I'm done for, then.
- Bonnie Dean
I think it is a joke. I'm in Poughkeepsie New York and every year a precocious Vassar girl who thinks she is different then ever other generation of contrarian feminists that came before her comes along and tries to shock people. Right now we have the girl who played the Princess in the Nutcracker at ABT claiming that she only has sex with nazi skin heads because it satisfies her Jewish fetish. Anything for attention... but there is a very real libidinal desire of young girls for a doll to play with...
- Noah David Simon
I find the reactions here to be more telling then this little shocker of the story. It takes parenting a child to understand how important a father is. People seem to glamorize the fact that Obama didn't have a father... as if this is a great qualification. It certainly makes them very aggressive and introverted and perfect for politics, but in the end morally lacking. Bill Clinton didn't have a father either... and the list goes on in a generation of scandal we find that fathers were rejected.
- Noah David Simon
While generalising and stating a father is unnecessary is no good, stating people without a father become aggressive and introverted and perfect for politics, is just as well a generalisation, hence no good.
- Irma Vermaat
I wonder if sperm are really purple.
- Keith Shepard
no Irma. I think a powerful man without a father figure is dangerous. and I don't mean "g-d" as role model or a symbolic abstraction. I mean a very close talking and trusting relationship with a person who has your DNA. for me my grandfather changed me. I spent time with him before he died and it defined me. I don't trust people who don't have these relationships. Role models are so important. this is no generalization that should be rejected. you must eat... I make that discrimination as well.
- Noah David Simon
I grew up around so many kids that were adopted. most of them did not turn out as well adjusted as those that had a positive link to their past. My best friend was a Chinese kid who was adopted into a Jewish home. I hear he is now stable, but only after finally meeting his genetic family and going to college and learning Mandarin. His sister who was half puerto rican and half Jewish did not fare as well when she met her mom who turned out to be a loser. Life is cruel.
- Noah David Simon
@Another - Most single mothers tend to be poor and uneducated. Surely the poor and uneducated part has a lot to do with how their children turn out. Personally, I would not choose to be a single parent, but if someone chooses to do so with foresight (i.e. not by "accident"), I think that should be their prerogative
- Robert Felty
Robert I am speaking about the adopted children of one of the wealthier families in Montclair NJ. The parents are both lawyers. I failed to even mention their North Korean child who burned their house down. Many wealthy famlies like John McCain's family adopt children from poor countries. The children are rarely as successful as their counterparts who have a genetic link to the wealthy family.
- Noah David Simon
also Robert I'm not talking about poor people. I'm talking about wealthy women who should probably get a chiuaua.
- Noah David Simon
well, i warned Princess Fiona, but all i got was "I know him better than you". Gave up.

- Colide81 (James)
I can see it... except, more like 65 or 70, not 50... Black don't crack... at least not that fast. my 83 yr. old dad has fewer wrinkles than this composite!
- Jasmin Smith
"Black don't crack... at least not that fast. " ++! JAsmin :)- . I think this has something to do with DNA.. I have heard that the aging process for certain ethinc groups seems diminished compared to other zones. National Geographic did a study of certain groups .eg Japan, Brazil, certain parts of Africa etc. and there are so called 'blue zones' on this earth. Ethinc groups confined onto an island appears to be stronger in the aging process
- Peter Dawson
There's also a tie in with dry versus oily skin: drier skin wrinkles more easily than oilier skin, and these two traits can be tied to ethnicity.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Extraordinarily lifelike characters are to begin appearing in films and computer games thanks to a new type of animation technology. Emily - the woman in the above animation - was produced using a new modelling technology that enables the most minute details of a facial expression to be captured and recreated.

Great-great-great! It's insanely detailed. Of course it has a lot of quirks (and if you try to look at this head as a person you notice instantly that she's abusing her botox injections and cosmetic surgery didn't do much good for her), but at the same time there're enough details to make her look believable. Strange, yes, but alive, not “generated”. Great times of emotional and live AI-characters being all around us are ahead. Thanks for the link!
- Urbansheep
No I'm not kidding. They have just increased the number of data points in movement detection - congrats for the advance, but not revolutionary. Bear in mind, that it was necessary to video an actress in order to generate this - in other words, you still need the human. The 'revolution' comes when you can generate CGI of this quality without having to video a human first.
- mattpovey
but surely things such as eye movement have little to do with 'resolution'
- Zee.
Resolution of motion capture. i.e. the number of points on the face and eye whose motion is being monitored and replicated in CGI. If you're only capturing the movement of one point on the eyeball, it's not very impressive. Capture twenty points around the eye as well as the eyeball itself and life gets a lot less botoxy :).
- mattpovey
Right, i get cha...but i didn't realise you could add motion sensors to eyeballs! :)
- Zee.
Auto-like? xkcd shares seem to have auto-praise enabled! And well deserved, in my opinion. Does one's ability to "get" the mouseovers endow one with geek cred, I wonder? :-)

Probably in the near future there will be tools that will sniff out all of your social network activities and build a very accurate composite of who you are as a person. Your "Social Index Personality Score" or "Social Media Background Check" could be used in all kinds of ways. The content you leave on all these sites will be your fingerprint and reveals much about who you are.
