Four DJs working together, one turntable each. I actually like their music taken alone, but it's a much cooler experience watching them work.

No Homo. Cam'ron and the Diplomats are, ironically, among the most homoerotic MCs in rap. They wear pink and purple furs and brag regularly about how good they look. In the video for "Pop Champagne," Jim Jones and Juelz Santana giddily douse each other with frothy white geysers of bubbly.Similarly, Lil Wayne has been photographed kissing his mentor, the rapper Baby, on the lips and cultivates a shirtless, slithering, rock-star-worthy air of libertine sexuality. "Some days the mayhem on Twitter is funny. Today it isn’t funny to me. Today I looked in the trending topics on Twitter and saw a familiar name, Maia Campbell, the sweet faced, beautifully locked girl from L.L. Cool J’s TV sitcom, In the House. I read hundreds of tweets but only found one kind post asking that folks stop making fun of her and pray instead. I then saw a post containing the link to a video featuring Maia on Youtube.com. I watched as much as possible and decided to tweet what I knew. Maia is schizophrenic; a fact that brought her late mother Bebe Moore Campbell and her father and step-father much anguish. Maia is a schizophrenic who won’t take her meds. Maia is a schizophrenic and unfortunately, she also has the honor of being a Twitter trending topic and #1 on Google Trends."

"Check out the newest material from Lab Technician 14KT, on his most recent project, the Nowalataz LP. Much thanks and respect to The Smoking Section, Michigan Hip Hop, and Fresh Selects for the early leaks. If you like what you hear, you can catch KT (along with Buff1) opening for Mayer Hawthorne this fall across the country, check those dates out here. “Here it is… a project I unofficially had done since 2006. It started when James Yancey a.k.a. J Dilla passed that February. To cope with the death of my favorite producer, who I liked to call my unofficial “musical mentor,” I started making ‘donuts’ …uncontrollably. I never planned to release any of the material out of respect for Dilla & his craft. I’ve shared some of the music with others, in which they would repeatedly ask me to hear it, so I decided to put a little something together and make it official. JUST FOR YA’LL. This is a collection of beats created about 3 years ago. Some ‘donuts’ style, some just around that era of...

"I am a dark-skinned African American woman with features that reflect my ancestry. Debates regarding Light vs. Dark and other biases have plagued our race for years and continues to impact millions of Black women. The deeply rooted intra-racial contempt that lies beneath this inane "compliment" is the reason I've chosen to spark dialogue surrounding the topic of self-hatred in our culture. It saturates every aspect of our lives, dominating the perspectives of our generation as a whole. We culturally are so influential, at times inadvertently, that we affect all with the words we utter and the images we portray. It lends to the theory of systemic racism. I'm authoring this piece because I'm miffed by this reality and would like to share my views on these subjects."

"InterMedia Partners, in partnership with its portfolio company Uptown Media Group along with Blackrock Digital today announced the purchase of the assets of Vibe and Vibe.com, the preeminent brands for hip-hop & R&B lifestyle and culture. Founded in 1993 by Quincy Jones and Time Warner, Vibe has been an iconic brand for 16 years, responsible for setting trends among hip hop and mainstream culture. InterMedia is buying Vibe on the heels of the recent June shuttering of the magazine. “Vibe is the preeminent brand in R&B and hip-hop. We feel privileged to purchase and resurrect such a storied brand,” said David Koff, Senior Partner, InterMedia Partners. “Together with the relaunch of Soul Train this fall and the rapid expansion of Uptown Magazine, a reinvigorated Vibe enables us to serve a broad spectrum of the African American audience with high quality entertainment and information.”"

"Besides, if you don't know who the f**k SlumVillage or J.Dilla is then you don't need to be reading some s**t called "AllHipHop" anyway. You should be at an intersection holding a sign that says "I A DUMM MUFUKA, PLEEZ CILL ME." n***as who know about SV know that Baatin hasn't been in the group since the "TRINITY" album. He was sick. He needed help. Serious help. Listen to eLZhi's verse on "REUNION" off of SV's DETROIT DELI for details. I'm not going to rehash that s**t here. We would see Baatin around Detroit at various HipHop functions/events, and some times he was in better shape than others. No matter his condition, he was always kind, always aware of who and where he was, even if he wasn't always THERE, if you get my drift. I've got three instances to show you what kind of person Baatin was."

What do you mean? Was this was a US only release or banned only in US?
- Adrian
No apparently the the video was banned in the us, wouldn't know about that. I was saying I can’t watch on youtube because of some copyright issue. I absolutely hate it when I click on a link and I’m not allowed to see it.
- Remo
I remember when this song came out and everyone was like WTF? They integrated the wail of a police siren into the song? O_o
- Derrick
Oh whaaaat! I had no idea YT did that, Remo. I don't even remember this video or anything about it being banned or what not. Crazy video though. Also the album came out when I was in college and I did not have a TV in the dorm, but did have a turntable, lol!
- Adrian
Derrick, the siren sample was freaky as hell, especially the way it integrates with that alternating drum roll and guitar sample. This was a Dr. Dre production with a real heavy Bomb Squad inflection to it. How do you go from *this* to the shit Dr. Dre produces these days. Oh yeah, MONEY.
- Adrian
This siren sound is a sample from Quincy Jones' Ironside all slowed down. In fact, I'd say a good portion of this ATL album included some form of Quincy Jones sample. For example, Livin' Like A Hustler used the Hicky-Burr groove and samples heavily. In the later post Dre years Cold187um took credit for producing much of the album, but who in Dre's camp doesn't say that. Dre seems to need to start with a base, but always makes it better.
- Eric @ CSTechcast.com
Great info Eric! I just knew it as some cold-blooded shit to throw over a beat, hehe.
- Adrian
Yep, Hicky-Burr is the one with Bill Cosby. I have the vinyl of this album, it was really good. A great NWA collabo on The Last Song too.
- Eric @ CSTechcast.com
This album and the DOC album are both equally good, IMHO. This album has a rougher edge to it sonically, which I tend to favor, but the DOC had that voice! Had... poor guy!
- Adrian
Oh, and the video was banned by MTV, Video Box, etc. No one played it. This is the first time I've seen it. The one that got MTV play was Untouchable.
- Eric @ CSTechcast.com
DOC's No One Can Do It Better is another in the zone for Ruthless. True Adrian. And another NWA collabo at the end!
- Eric @ CSTechcast.com
The intro from Lord Finesse's Return of the Funky Man is from that album too. “for those that know me indeed i like to flow”

Detroit rapper Baatin dead at 35 Slum Village co-founder known for spiritual lyrics By BRIAN McCOLLUM Free Press Pop Music Writer Titus (Baatin) Glover, the Detroit rapper who co-founded the much-acclaimed Slum Village, has died. Many details remain unknown at this point, said Hex, the group's road manager. Word of Baatin's passing circulated quickly this afternoon in music circles both locally and nationally, where Slum Village has long been an exalted name in underground hip-hop. Fellow group founder James (J. Dilla) Yancey, Baatin's Pershing High School classmate, passed away in 2006. Baatin, who turned 35 in March, had left Slum Village in 2002 amid health problems, but was reported to have returned for tracks on the group's upcoming album, "Villa Manifesto." "Baatin will be missed," Slum Village's T3 told the Free Press in a statement. "I'm glad we got a chance to work together before he passed. We lost another Slum soldier, a dear friend and a brother. He touched many lives."...
