Beyond a certain level, there is not much juice left in the job sites since they SPAM you with unwanted jobs and you don't have the permission to stop them in desperate times.However, Social Media gives us a chance to do permission marketing(in Seth Godin's term) where we show ourself in the way we want to and to the people whom we should show to (indirectly, permission to choose the employers).After the arrival of Twitter, even that has become a great tool to market yourself like my profile http://twitter.com/hjsblogger , after just putting a T-Shirt with ENTREPRENEUR as my home page, I could see loads of people following me, which was not the case before. "Very nice article, glad I landed here from Twitter :) Well, I was associated with a startup of 3 people as a SO CALLED Co-Founder. One thing which is so very important in a REAL Technology startup is "Correct Division of Responsibilities" and this would be the case whether we start with a friend or not. To be honest, I am planning to startup with my wife :) and I see that my Startup couple friends face lot of issue in getting the THIRD person, since it is very difficult to see what is happening in someone else's bedroom, same was the case with our startup (Husband + Wife + 2 outsiders) Lovely Tips, thanks for sharing them. -Himanshu Sheth" - Himanshu Sheth

"Well Ashwin, I felt, I would be an appropriate person to comment on this post.Though I was not laid off but my earlier experience with a VERY early stage startup and than searching for a job [After the Lehman Brothers nightmare] has been quite exciting....now again with a startup :) I would like to add couple of things: 1..No free biscuits,tea / snacks is an excellent way of cost cutting for a BIG organization where it would definitely spend at least lakhs of rupees daily.However, the downfall of this is that "We as employees are so used to it that such small moves would definitely send a chill in the employees[indicating something is really wrong with the company]..In fact, this is the best starting point to cut ample amount of costs. 2. Now if we feel that work is less/no work, we as Job Seekers need to be smart...gone are the days when jobs came from Naukri..now everything is so much dependent on sites like LinkedIn [from where I got a job in the current startup] and we need to be..." - Himanshu Sheth
