Hi. I am pretty new to the world of baking and I'm looking for a nice website containing working recipes from the best professional bakers, possibly with some images. Could somebody advise me some? Thanks in advance

I hope it's okay that I shop around to everyone's bread blogs for ideas. I never know if it's better to disclose the original source or to just not cite the inspiration at all. I ask, because since I'm a beginner in bread baking, I don't want my attempt at a particular formula to come out so badly that it reflects on the original baker. I don't know. But, since I think these baguettes came out pretty well- I'll share ...

Joe Bastianich behind the bar at Otto. Restaurateur, winemaker, guitarist Joe Bastianich is many things to many people, inheriting from his mother, Lidia, a multitasking streak and zeal for empire-building. My brain is contaminated with ideas, he says. Most recently, Bastianich founded Dineprivate.com (with help from Always Hungry's Jeff Zalaznick), an OpenTable-like service for restaurants to showcase their private-dining spaces; he's also opening restaurants in Singapore; and he will start construction on the 40,000-plus-square-foot Italian marketplace, Eataly, at 200 Fifth ...

I've not made much bread in my life and the time that i do, it's nothing to brag about. My question is, there is a recipe that I want to make for thanksgiving. I would like to double it so I don't have to make it two completely different times. Is it okay to double a bread recipe? It's pretty basic, 3.5 cups flour, 2 teaspoons yeast so could I do 7 cups flour and 4 teaspoons yeast without screwing ...

LOL Butter is on sale for $2/lb at Kroger in the Dallas area, so if you're in the south, check the circulars this week :) There's no limit this year! Typically around cookie season, I've noticed they do this for a week or two so keep an eye out if you're not in our area.

In my zeal to become an accomplished baker (hopefully of good sourdough bread) I brought home half a dozen books from the library that got me started. My first decent sourdough (utilizing some of Maggie Glezer's methods) was Susan's Simple Sourdough http://www.thefreshloaf.com/node... and the last book I waded through (because it had the least to do with sourdough) was Charles Van Over's The Best Bread Ever which details his scientific method of mixing bread dough in the food processor. Well ...

I want to thank Paddyscake here on the TFL for sharing her raspberry tart recipe last July (divine is the word to describe it). She said she substituted the mascarpone cheese with cream cheese and used Pepperidge Farm for the crust. She said despite these substitutions, the pie was just about gone in a heartbeat. In "Two Pies, One Lie" on my personal blog www.sotsil.wordpress.com I featured Paddyscake raspberry tart because I did some cheating of my own. I bought ...

Organic Avenue, a favorite of photographer Ryan McGinley and others for its LOVE detox cleanses, organic- and raw-food workshops and "uncooking" classes, and retail items like organic clothing, has been on the move. Last month they opened a shop-in-shop in the Paul Labrecque East salon, offering foods, juices, and cleansing programs Tuesdays through Saturdays, making that their third retail location after a West Village store was added last year. In July, owners Denise Mari and Doug Evans unveiled a 4,200-square-foot ...

"The two bageleries are only a few blocks apart so picking one doesn't usually involve convenienceit's about loyalties." [Photographs: Erin Zimmer] Montrealers have a lot of pride in the their bagels. Plus in a French accent, the word just sounds better: bay-gal. Depending on who you ask, "the best" are either from Fairmount or St-Viateur, both of which sell them fresh 24 hours a day. Before touching on the rivalry, let's define the Montreal bagel. What's All the Fuss? Compared ...

I've been using organic freshly-ground whole wheat for a while, and recently switched to KA 100%WW. What a difference! The KA is ground superfine so the flour is tan, while the freshly-ground is more white with brown specks. I switched again to Stone-Buhr and that's also white with brown specks. Has anyone found that the KA is less liekly to cut gluten strands because it doesn't have bigger (and sharper) pieces of bran in it? Both types have made good ...
