that last RT was a promoted tweet. fine, you win, twitter.
heh. and of course, it didn't get pulled in by AT. - holly #ravingfangirl
which rt? i don't see it in my twitter timeline at all - Sir Shuping is just sir
interesting! it's a pic from Lee Pace with Orlando Bloom and Evangeline Lilly. an elfie! if someone else in your timeline had RTed it recently it wouldn't show again though. - holly #ravingfangirl
if it was i missed it...but i've noticed that adblock doesn't show the promoted tweets, i wonder if that's a cause? if i look at your timeline though i see it. - Sir Shuping is just sir
ah, yeah, if adblock is blocking them, then you probably won't see it. - holly #ravingfangirl

Pop Goes on Hiatus: In a Quiet Year, Music Moves Ever Closer to the Margins « - http://grantland.com/hollywo...
"According to a story that ran last month in The Atlantic, the top 1 percent of solo artists and bands now earn 77 percent of the revenue from recorded music. On the radio, still the most effective way to break artists and songs with the pop audience, the 10 most popular songs are played twice as much as they were a decade ago. This naturally translates to better sales for those songs — the top 10 tracks now account for 82 percent more of the digital sales market than they did back in the mid-’00s. There is more music than there has ever been, but pop continues to shrink and rely more heavily on big names and overplayed songs to pump up the juice." - Andrew C (✔) from Bookmarklet
"But while streaming services keep promising us discovery, pop listeners keep wanting what’s already familiar. " <-- wow, I feel like by now 75% or more of my Spotify listening (which is most of what I listen to at work) is discovery-based, not familiarity based. I initially seeded it with a lot of stuff I already like to get the recommendation engine up to speed, of course. - Andrew C (✔)
i use it to discover/try out a lot of music before i buy it too. - holly #ravingfangirl

Half hour before I arrived to go to work: Two stabbed near Rockville Metro station http://www.wtop.com/52... via @WTOP
Whoa. That's unusual activity for that neighborhood, isn't it? Or has that part of Rockville changed a lot? - Corinne L
No, it's fairly unusual, tho dumb stuff happens there from time to time. There were cops there when I arrived and for some reason a helicopter hovering over the station, but I think they were finishing up their business at that point. - Zamms
Still unsettling. Glad the cops were responsive. - Corinne L

Nah, I'd have the wrong cut of beef, then cook it too much or too little, then the farro would be over- or undercooked, then...LEEKS. I ruin leeks 100% of the time. I'm glad it was good for you! - Meg VMeg
it was the farro that nearly did me in. apparently it's not too easy to screw up. - holly #ravingfangirl

COMPUTER GURUS, I AM STUMPED. i have set up some Word macros to clean up some data that we use in some reports. It is copied into Word from a plain text email that is system-generated. Multiple people need to access them, but when they try to run the reports, for some people the report has paragraph marks, some it uses line breaks.
where is the difference coming from? they all use the same email client from the same browser (Firefox). - holly #ravingfangirl
the macro is set up for one, so on the computers that have the other, the macros don't work. we're trying to have just one set of macros. - holly #ravingfangirl
Does that email client have settings to display incoming email in Rich Text, Plain Text and HTML? - Johnny
wondering if it is related to text encoding with some using unicode, others ansi, etc - Michael W. May
heh. i just went and brainstormed with one of our IT guys, and I am checking those two exact things - email format and text encoding. - holly #ravingfangirl

.......someone did another study on this? Good grief, it's a well-known fitness and training tactic. Where do they think sprint intervals came from? - Hookuh Tinypants
yeah, it's not just about doing sprint intervals. it's about the bare minimum you could do and still get a benefit, which hasn't been studied as much. - holly #ravingfangirl
I didn't realize it hadn't been studied much. It's been a given in the fitness world for a long time (knowing what the minimum amount you need to do to get a useful workout). Our gym here offers what they call "sprint" classes that last about 5-10 minutes and involve doing this exact thing using either the rowing machines or the spin bikes, for people who don't have time for longer workouts. It's kinda cool actually! - Hookuh Tinypants

why does my oven cook most recipes within stated times but significantly longer when roasting meats? ideas @TheFoodLab? other smart people?
So, do you have a light or dark roasting pan? (If light, they can just take a lot longer.) - Jennifer Dittrich
it happens with both light and dark pans. it's baffling. - holly #ravingfangirl
i think i'll test the temperature. maybe meats like roasts/chickens/turkeys are just more sensitive to temp than everything else? - holly #ravingfangirl
Yeah, that's weird, unless your oven is having trouble keeping temperature over long periods of time? - Jennifer Dittrich
that's a thought too. time for experiments! - holly #ravingfangirl
I'd add an oven thermometer, make sure temp you set on dial is the one you achieve in oven - WarLord
yeah, that's what i meant by testing the temperature. - holly #ravingfangirl
The oven could have cold and hot spots which don't effect smaller things or shorter cooked things but are compounded over the time it takes to cook a roast. - Johnny from iPhone
