Ok, here is my dilemma. I used to have carpet in my main area where my TV is and surround sound is. Speaker wire would run under carpet. I just got hard wood floors installed so now there will be wires all over the place for my sound. What creative options do I have to set back up my surround sound but perhaps eliminate the wires or use wireless ..

connection to connect my speakers. I need help because I can't have speaker wire all over my pretty new floors! Thanks. - Amani
Sony and Panasonic have wireless options, but they're for HTIB systems that last time I checked - LANjackal
The problem with speakers is that they need power to be driven, so even if they're wireless you'll still need to get power to them somehow. That requires a power cable, which means you're gonna have to be dealing with wires anyway. Other options are:1) wall/ceiling mounting with cable routed behind wall 2) speaker wire tape that matches your wall/floor color. It was featured on Engadget(?) a while back but I don't recall where to find it now. Hopefully /rjcc will show up and enlighten us - LANjackal
I didn't remember it but maybe you meant - http://www.engadget.com/2005... ? - Richard Lawler
^ YES! I've seen that before. Even better, thanks man I knew you'd have a good solution :) - LANjackal from IM
What do you mean HTIB Systems? That wire looks ok, but perhaps a wireless solution would be the best I guess. Any other ideas? - Amani

I am going to research wireless options and post up what I find here. Maybe Josh Haley has some info for us as well? - Amani
:( I am in a similar situation in which I would need to tear up the house pretty bad to run wires where they need to go for surround. So my two back speakers are not really all the way back, and the wires are quite exposed. I am hoping a wireless solution comes out soon that is affordable and dependable. - Josh Haley
Wow. I thought you would have the answer for sure. I will continue to research and share. - Amani
You can use a Yamaha front speaker, or just bite the bullet and put the wiring into the walls and ceiling. Drywall isn't that hard once you've done it a few times. - Cristo
Go into the walls, it's not hard, and with a drywall saw & drill & extensions if needed, you shouldn't need to tear up the house. - Todd Bouey from iPhone
I went with ceiling mounted rear surrounds in my new place for the same reason - will have a fully tiled living room with no wall behind the main couch, so there was no other way to easily mount surrounds. - Nathan Chase
Found these speakers which with the size of my room could work. http://www.definitivetech.com/product... Only front speakers but the sound is sweet and they have front and back speakers in one tall speaker. Interesting ... hmmm ... - Amani
wow thanks for this Richard. Good stuff in here although I am wary about drilling into the floor or ceiling. Good thing I am researching it thoroughly. - Amani from IM
You can try TaperWire at http://www.taperwire.com/speaker.... I am moving to a house where the family room has hardwood floors. I plan on getting these flat wire cables where I can run them along the baseboard and then paint them over the same color as the wall. - Robert Moy
Yes wireless does have to be powered, but in most cases you can get creative. I have a L shaped couch which I have the wired amp box behind and the speaker wires under. Use a piece of furniture to hide it. - Jeremy Kates
Run the cabled along the join between the ceiling and wall and use cornicing to hide them, that's what I'm planning because I've the same hard wood floor problem, only issue is that you need to accept wall/corner mounted speakers and you need to get the cabled up to the ceiling in the first place, for that consider shelving or some built in furniture to hide the cable behind. - Chris Totten
