One of the people I follow on Twitter is "hotdogsladies", aka Merlin Mann. As a bit of an experiment I created a room of that name and imported nothing but that Twitter account. FriendFeed has now collapsed the room and friend namespace, so if you didn't know better you'd think you were following Merlin...
I doubt Merlin's seen this, but in a post on 43folders on 4/10 Merlin wrote: "If and when I choose to give away the things that I make — nobody but me is allowed to define how or where I’ll do it." -- http://www.43folders.com/2009...

My first reaction is to honor that sentiment and delete the feed/room. Thoughts?

FriendFeed no longer makes a distinction between rooms and users in the URL. It's feature of the new beta. This is true of all rooms, not just this one.

There are really two issues: (1) it's inadvertent user name squatting. Merlin can't create create his own account now, and (2) one could say the feed is contrary to the sentiment quoted above. I think I'll remove the Twitter feed from the room. I don't know if can be deleted entirely.

You could just ask him; he might be OK with it, seeing as how the Twitter feed is already publicly readable & you can use it in an RSS reader. As a guess, he might be OK with it after reading his thoughts on disabling embedding videos on Youtube so this might be analogous (but I'm not sure!)

i figured something like this might prove a problem, that's why i imported his tweets via an imaginary friend... plus that way only i can see them... though i did create a room for shaq http://beta.friendfeed.com/shaqstw... (and didn't use his twitter name as the room name) bullet dodged... phew

Anybody know the significance of his id? I've tried to figure it out, but have been unable.

you can change the names in the URL now on groups you make.

It's a very good question, Ken. Two things: 1) If there were no ambiguity between ff streams derived from importing one's own services VS from a group import, would there be any ethical difference? 2) An emerging quandary is: reasonably sized excerpts of a quoted blog post can be longer than an _entire_ microblog post. By the same percentage which is acceptable for the average blog-length post, a tweet excerpt would be what, one or two words.

I have changed names of my 'newsriver' public group (and i'm looking for other sources of 'realtime' news besides the nytimes) http://friendfeed.com/newsriv...

I'm fine with press coverage of Obama's dog, as long as stories on missing blonde ladies still get precedence over "civilization crumbling."
