"NQ has confirmed that it will be bringing a Twitter phone to market for Christmas this year, after the success of its first effort. The Facebook phone, or INQ1, had tight integration with the biggest social network, and the next effort (unconfirmed as the INQ2) will have Twitter support baked in the case. It is reported this low cost handset, which only cost £80 the 3 network, managed to shift 700,000 units, and is still apparently wandering out the shops at a pretty impressive rate. Frank Meehan, CEO of INQ, said "This can really help open up and drive Twitter use on mobile when usage becomes part of your data package like on the PC."

I'd love it...just the security in knowing a heavyweight is behind the service (especially through the hard times ahead) and let's face it -they have got skills when it comes to bringing companies together (Facebook aside). You don't think the Googlers would try to take over what the ex-Googlers are doing? IMHO, the FF dev teams are already heavyweights, not because of their names. The site keeps on improving with hardly any downtime, and they're taking time to think things through to actually developing a site that is far superior than a lot of the other sites and service. (both front and back end)

@Zee: Thanks. I still think Google would be a decent fit as Google's social networking forays so far have been duds: Reader was never intended to be the social tool Google's trying to turn it into. Google Talk's getting blown away by FB chat. Google Profiles is awkward, Blogger is a nation unto itself, and Groups is ... just there. I'm pretty sure FriendFeed already has more "social"...

One really good reason to use a desktop reader is that some of them can monitor pages that don't have a feed and alert you to any changes. Essential feature for keeping ALL of your software up to date. Additionally, there are feeds you can't subscribe to in Google Reader, because they require authentication, and unfortunately that's not something Google Reader supports.

I like Google Reader too, but I am an administrator on 3 forums and have to subscribe to feeds for the admin boards, and that requires a reader that can accept a username & pass to log me in to access the nonpublic feeds. I also like having popup notification when new posts are made on these forums, so I can quickly delete spam within 30 seconds of it being posted.

feedly is messy. google reader has toomany limitations and is visually all screwed up. i don't understand why newsgator doesn't make an rss reader similar to netnewswire. feeddemon isn't horrible, but it could be so much better. netnewswire is probably the best i've tried and continue to use. only for mac, but the best thing is that it's free.

Excuse my novice-ship, but one condition I enjoy about feedly is that it allows me to both upload to my twitter and my friendfeed accounts, almost simultaneously, and the luxury of sharing it with other g-friends. Now, if feeddemon can do all of this, I'm sold.Sold I tells ya!!

edwin -- i have over 600 subscriptions and found it a bit of a nuisance to navigate in the small space on feedly as well as view other people's shares. this goes the same for google -- it tries to fit too much into one space (notes, shares, suggestions, options, etc) whereas with a stand alone program like netnewswire, i can have all the options, settings and other gadgets for different functions not only in a separate tool bar, but menu as well leaving the dedicated rss reader to do what it does best

@tsudohnimh FeedDemon can synchronize feeds across multiple computers too. And you can also share items just like you do with Google Reader. Trouble is, not many people know about these features. FD can be customized to provide an uncluttered, aesthetic interface to read your feeds.

Definitely liking the Chrome-isms. The search results when typing into the location bar have a really nice and clean presentation. I wish the left-most tab didn't blend in to the window control widgets, though. Although I used to be a big Speed Dial user with Opera, I'm not sure I'll get much use out of the Top Sites page; I tend to just go for the Location bar when I want to bring a site up. It's a lot quicker to ⌘-T and start typing. Heck, I barely use bookmarks anymore.

Like the UI, Top Sites, and Speed. 1Password extension wasn't working at first, but I went into 1Password Prefs, turned off support for Safari, shutdown 1Password (already had Safari off), then brought up 1Password and re-enabled Safari support. When I started up Safari, it was all installed properly.

Best: speed; noticeably faster than FF 3.1b3 (Shiretoko) on my Macbook. Worst: no extension architecture; any time I gain from quicker pageloads would quickly get eaten up by less efficient workflows inside browser. Not worth the trade-off

To each his own, I guess. I really love Chrome's simplicity. For the same reason, I'm of mixed emotions on this issue. On one hand, there are certain things that I would like Chrome to do, so extensions can come along that fix the problem, on the other, I REALLY don't want to clutter it up. Self-discipline, I guess.

It's been my … observation … that Republicans like to blindly follow a pack rather than lead. Few (not all) rarely demonstrate the willingness or capacity to engage in independent thought, This fits in perfectly with MSIE. They assume because Widnows has market share that it's superior. They assume that since IE is bundled with it that it must be superior. Either that, or they're afraid...

Disagree with Collins - it is not because IE comes bundled with my Windows - even if it didnt I would still download and install it and remove any Firefox or Chrome from my system. Another Chrome issue I had was that it was displaying some "web page at null cant be found" and I was very irritated and there is no status bar visible in Chrome may be there is an option to turn it on but I want the status bar to show any javascript errors just as it is in IE7 -

provisional second for alert thingy - best balance. currently testing twhirl for FF, alertthingy and http://www.feedalizr.com/. Twhirl is most reliable/speedy with updates but separate windows is a pain. Feedalizer does an ok job of both with a filter that allows you to split or merge the feeds but seems to mess with my updates from Twitterfox - my quick check tool when browsing, alertthingy merges multiple sources well and easy access to short URLs reply retweet digg options. FTW based on half time score

Ian: Hubbub is already pretty rich, but since it's built on a flexible and open platform, we hope it can become even better, very quickly. The platform allows gadgets and widgets to be created using any or all of XForms, HTML, Flash and Silverlight, with the whole app being bound together using JavaScript. It makes for a pretty fast development environment.

http://nambu.com is the most amazing app in the world. Ping.fm, twitter, friendfeed, identi.ca/laconi.ca all in one window. Just great... and free!

My biggest complaint about Nambu is that you can't have Twitter and FF open side-by-side. You have to keep clicking between tabs. It's a little annoying after a while. That said, it does have a very nice interface and a lot of potential. I still just love the FF Real Time feed interface. It's hard to beat.

The next release of Nambu will allow you to have tweetdeck style side by side windows. It's still in beta so it's a bit buggy but it keeps getting better :)

Link Friendfeed to Google Talk, and then tweak the IM updates. For twitter I just use Tweetdeck.

If you're on a Mac, give Fluid a try. It's a Single Site Browser (or SSB). Not a real desktop app, but it's close
