The economy is in turmoil. Food prices are rising. We have to watch our budgets (if not our waistlines). Restaurateurs have been raising their prices this year. Even Gray’s Papaya, once famed for selling hot dogs at two for a dollar, has long gone up to $1.25. So City Room decided to compile what is left of New York City’s dollar menu (like McDonald’s dollar menu, but not). - Ian Dexter Marquez

The original ELIZA was described by Joseph Weizenbaum in Communications of the ACM in January 1966. ELIZA was one of the first programs that attempted to communicate in natural language. The article was an attempt to demystify the behavior of the program, and included a detailed description of the program. ELIZA is based on a "script" consisting of patterns and corresponding responses. An appendiz to the article contained the complete script for the Rogerial psychologist. This rendition of ELIZA is a complete and faithful implementation of the program described by Weizenbaum. The script language has been reformatted for clarity, but is unchanged in its content. - Ian Dexter Marquez

Because comic books are read in a way that we invest a lot of ourselves in the telling, because they're visual in nature, and because for generations they were among the only art forms available for a child to easily own, they can be powerful nostalgic items. It's always great to have a few comics around that you either remember reading or simply recall wanting more than anything in the world. You may be surprised by how much of your comics reading since has been shaped by those feelings. - Ian Dexter Marquez
