Will the Transparency of Our Lives Damn Us or Legitimize Us? - Advertising Age - GenNext - http://adage.com/gennext...
Increasingly, employers are searching Google for prospective employees name, even my own sister has asked for help in covertly monitoring employee Twitter accounts. The advent of social media is encouraging transparency online, this means people using their real names and taking responsibility for their words to become reputable and trustworthy. This brilliant post asks whether this honesty will backfire on people who do not grow up with the advent of social media. Generally speaking, that typically means people who are outside the 20-30 age range now. There are of course many exceptions, from young teenagers to old pensioner, which suggests it makes no difference. Only time will tell, when we have a good decade of status updates indexed and search able by Google. However older data is less relevant and I've heard Twitter only retains your previous 3200 tweets.
