I don't know all that much about it, actually. I got a message on LinkedIn from a recruiter asking me if I knew anyone that had a fairly niche-y skill set since I was in the Greenville area. I responded that *I* did but might not have the length of experience the client required and offered a suggestion of where he could advertise the position. Apparently that was enough to get him to actually look at my profile and he'd like to talk to me about it...
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Good luck! I hope that once you talk with the recruiter, you both find that you're a good fit!

If it's the position I think it is, I know it's something I can do. I just have to get my foot in the door and prove it.

Good luck with the interview tomorrow. Hopefully, it will result in an early Christmas present!
- Anne Bouey
I hope so Anne! Turns out my dad's pre-test interview for therapy got shifted back tomorrow morning so I have to do that first. If I wind up playing phone tag with the gent about the job again, I'm going to offer to meet up with him over lunch. Nothing like tasty noms to put someone in the hiring mood!
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Hope this goes well - fingers are still crossed!
- WorldofHiglet
Well, I played phone tag with the gent earlier today but just got done with a 27 minute phone conversation with him. He seemed intrigued (and specifically complimented my phone demeanor) and is sending me more information about the position. I'm not exactly qualified for it per se, but I know it's something I can do well. My job at this point is to make myself look like an undiscovered gem *shines her facets*
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Sounds promising - I really hope they snap you up. And, if I may say so, your facets are looking particularly alluring today....
- WorldofHiglet
You've been discovered now; he just doesn't know what kind of gem he's found yet. Shine!

All you have to do is take some photos – which you never delete from your camera – so when someone finds your camera at the bottom of the gorilla pit they are able to locate you and return the lost property to its rightful owner. http://www.andrewmcdonald.net.au/a-picto...
I like how everything is clear and readable except the email address.
- Alex Scrivener
LOL That's funny, but yeah...what's with the email address being so small?
- Admiral Anika
At any rate, I had a video I made with all my info on it. I accidentally took it off my chip, but I'm positive I copied it to my camera. Unfortunately, I don't know how to access my camera's memory and the cord has been lost. One of these days, I'll RTFM. =)

Does anyone else want to make out with this guy for being SO DAMN AWESOME? Srsly, total panty-dropper this one was.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
wow, this is very close to being the most popular thing I have ever posted to Friendfeed. Just goes to show, um, something. Always use pictures?
- Alex Scrivener
ALWAYS use pictures. I try to include a picture with every post. Otherwise, people just pass the post by. It's always been that way.
- Jason, Incognito
Yes, Always use pictures! For one thing, I might sketch your stuff one day! Also yes, it helps your posts stand out.
- Kamilah Gill
I'm the opposite. I tend to ignore posts with photos (unless the post itself is just a photo). Why? The image usually detracts from the text and people spend time talking about the picture and making it clear they didn't bother to read the text or link.
- Admiral Anika
=/ (not about the original post. I already expressed how much I love it)
- Kamilah Gill
Or you could just put an address sticker on the camera...
- Alix Whitmire
No, the pictures try to build an emotional connection with the finder. It helps convince a not-so-honest person to return the camera rather than just keep it. It won't stop a real thief, but it could tip the odds in his favor. A sticker can't do that.
- Alex Scrivener
There should be a place in your camera for email address, like cell phones have "Home" so when you lose it, someone can call you. Hmmmm.
- anna sauce
I wouldn't ever think to go through pics, but if I found a lost cam (or phone or whatever) with an address clearly visible on it, I'd pop it in the mail, or call/email someone, no problem. Same holds true for some lost and found places. They might call you if there's easy contact info, but I don't see them taking the time to flip through photos to figure out how. Maybe do both?
- Alix Whitmire
I was putting a README.txt file on my USB sticks with contact info if it got lost. This is way better! Now take this board with your contact info.... smile, no! put a sad face.... and you're done!

Brittany Murphy died early this morning after she went into full cardiac arrest and could not be revived, multiple sources tell TMZ. She was 32. The problem is that many credible (i.e. "hard") news outlets have barely any staffing on weekends any more. A few of the pseudo-paparazzi news outlets have "stringers," or freelancers, stake out the L.A.-area hospitals on weekends for celeb appearances. I'll be surprised if any newspapers have this until tomorrow. Lord knows the LATimes won't.
- rowlikeagirl
I agree Row, but CNN is ahead of them, and they would bang this story like a gong if they could back it up. In fact, they have a huge building on Sunset - they could have someone at the hospital in minutes for a confirmation.
- Ciaoenrico
True, CNN + MSNBC are still well-funded these days. Papers, not so much.
- rowlikeagirl
@Ciaoennrico A death at 32 not tragic? What does her career have to do with it being tragic or not? How about her family losing her? Her friends? People who enjoyed her on screen... :-(

I've never been to the Sulfur baths at Big Sur, but I have been to other sulfur hot springs. I think it's more a function of just how high the concentration is of Sulfur. The ones I went to you noticed it, but it wasn't overwhelming by any means. More of a tickle to the nose.

- Kamilah Gill
Hi Kamilah! He can be scary, yes. :) The thing about Bill Murray... I don't find him attractive at all. Jim Belushi is a better comparison and he gave us the movie line, "Grace, I got it. Grace." Which we use a LOT. This picture was taken on a very hot day. We are melting. I love that you got the plant in the background. :) Thanks!

I've only recently found myself as a steak fan, but I've conjured up a pretty good rub, and I think I have a pretty good cooking technique. It's too big though, oh my stars, I ate just under half of it.

Chili powder, granulated garlic, brown sugar, kosher salt, little dried thyme and oregano, black pepper, cayenne, and onion powder. I put it on just before lunch time, let it sit, and let the steak come up to temperature just before putting in the cast iron, which had been in a 450 degree oven for twenty minutes.

The wife cuts hers, places them on a cookie sheet and adds a dash of olive oil atop and then drops them in the oven. Season w/ salt thereafter. It's a bit different and if you are not on top of things, you can burn them, but it beats frying them up! :)

I am beginning to finally get it... If you post on Friendfeed you get comments... If you post on Twitter, you get followers. If you are marketing something (e.g. your blog/brand, your product/service) getting followers is much better than getting comments.
You need to than unfollow those users...:)) Twitter is a lot more about broadcasting and getting followers is like a drug.. the more you broadcast the more followers you get :)
- Bindu Reddy
Getting followers doesn't really mean anything: 390 of the 400 followers I have on Twitter never act or do anything with what I say on it. Getting them to convert is the meaningful part of the marketing proposition, and conversations, I've found, are far more effective at that.
- Mark Trapp
So, what's the FAQ for interaction on Twitter? I had a post that got 100+ comments the other day here on Friendfeed but no response on Twitter. I must be doing something wrong over there.
- Eric @ CSTechcast.com
twitter seems to be great for people who are lazy and not really savvy about marketing. it's sort of like shouting into the void, and you might get a few people to respond, but do you really get people to act?
- Bren -- Making Contact
@Mark, I agree with you.. However to a lot of people having a follower number like 10K/20K, which seems like a relatively easily thing to do on Twitter, is not only just a high but it is also a good way to keep in touch with your audience without spending too much time... Here keeping in touch with your audience is way more time consuming
- Bindu Reddy
Bindu, but keeping in touch doesn't mean anything if they're not listening. You can have a million followers, but if you're not getting any of them to act on what you're saying, it doesn't mean much. Getting conversations going with people, who may or may not be followers, which Twitter is pretty bad at, are more effective at getting people to convert. I just had a relatively popular...

- Mark Trapp
Bindu, I'm following you (FF) and I just commented too :)
- Micah Wittman
@Mark, Curious how did you get them to go to your website?
- Bindu Reddy
Bindu, if I knew that I'd have it made. Near as I can tell, people were doing Twitter and Google searches for "twitter list," and then started retweeting it and sharing it from there.
- Mark Trapp
Following is such a low-risk endeavor that people don't put thought into it: they'll follow anyone and everyone. You even have people thinking it's common decency to automatically follow people if they follow you without even thinking about if their content is interesting. Following is the 21st century equivalent of receiving a phone book or the yellow pages: you do it just in case you need to contact or get ahold of someone in the future, but nobody ever realistically does.
- Mark Trapp
Yep, it's like collecting business cards that get neatly filed into a big binder. It's about the self-satisfaction of the collection - you feel more connected / networked / important and avoid doing the hard work of cold calling or meeting with people and building something or whatever.
- Micah Wittman
I agree with following being a low-risk effort... However I have also heard of ppl gaining value from Twitter without much effort. Take for example this coffeshop I am a big fan of - sightglass coffee. They get a lot of customers from Twitter. It takes them relatively little time to tweet and they get customers. It would be very hard to achieve the same on FF.
- Bindu Reddy
Bindu, I get lots of conversation on Twitter, too. One of the reasons I am there more than here is because people with common interest in my political obsessions are there, but not here.
- Karoli
Karoli - Yes, the Twitterverse is way more diverse than the FFverse. Curious do you get more comments/conversations per post on Twitter as compared to FF or is it that you you post more stuff because time spent per post is lower on Twitter
- Bindu Reddy
Bindu, I get very little response to political conversations/comments on FF - a couple of folks follow here but a very small percentage compared to twitter. I tried to pull people over here, but they didn't understand why they should leave tweetdeck and their twitter setup for new territory.
- Karoli
Geeks (+ early adopters, influential folks, the elite ...) are on FriendFeed and the proletariat on Twitter? Long live the dictatorship of the proletariat? Calls for action work best when the audience actually cares, so prolly that's all about choosing the right medium for the targeted punters?
- Sebastian
Sebastian... yes agree the geeks and tech bloggers are on FF... However if you are marketing say a fashion or beauty blog. You won't get much interest here. twitter is the place for you :)
- Bindu Reddy
I disagree with that statement, Bindu. There's a LOT of non-tech getting traction on FriendFeed. So much so that it's the number one reason Scoble no longer enjoys being here: he says he doesn't see enough tech for his liking.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Just butting in here to mention that there are tons of uses for both twitter and friendfeed that have nothing whatsoever to do with marketing. In fact, once could make the argument that social networks such as these were designed to get away from marketing. Unlike radio, TV, or even a web search, you choose who you'll be receiving information from. If you're looking to exchange...
- Mr. Gunn
Bindu, what I'm sick of is marketers broadcasting their sales pitches to all social media outlets out there, regardless whether the audience might fit or not. Anyways, i'ts possible to attract a few somewhat intelligent responses to geeky topics at Twitter, at least when xmas and independence day share the same date. Most probably I wouldn't try to sell wonder bras at FF, though.
- Sebastian
@Tina ... umm I have not been an avid user of FF lately so maybe it has become pretty diverse. Are you saying there are a lot of people on here with specific interests such as politics, beauty etc?
- Bindu Reddy
Bindu: Ning is a better place to go if you have very specific topics you want to talk about. They are growing a FriendFeed every 12 days (they are getting a million new users that often and have just passed 38 million registered). FriendFeed is fun if you aren't sure what you want to chat about and you're cool with seeing lots of family pictures and goofy stuff. Tina is right that the hard-core geeks are mostly on Twitter or Facebook now, I keep watching here, though.
- Robert Scoble
Karoli I get all kinds of action here on political topics. I have more followers on Twitter but rarely get a response there. Here I got 80+ comments yesterday.
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
from iPod
MVB, Karoli is a prolific voice on twitter. Twitter seems quite effective for political advocacy/activism even though longer form convos have to break out somewhere else. Also, just like friendfeed, volume / steady presence can make all the difference. Your tweet count is ~2K; Karoli's over 63K.
- Micah Wittman
My presence here is similar to Kaoli's on Twitter, then. So, presence is a mitigating factor. But, Micah, as you so deftly point out, for a long conversation there needs to be a move to another venue. That's where here works better, since it can stay right here.
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
from iPod
We agree, and can agreed at length right here, folks :)
- Micah Wittman
So link your twitter to your friendfeed. Get followers and comments. The best of both worlds.
- Hareesh Nagarajan
Does it make any difference here whether the original post was to Twitter and reposted here automatically or the original post was directly here? In other words, does the FF community prefer to comment on direct posts rather than Twitter reposts?
- Jimmy Walker
Jimmy: it honestly depends on who you interact with on FriendFeed. There are people who get irate about people only posting to Twitter and openly advocate using FriendFeed directly, and yet, there are interesting people who always get a conversation going around their tweets. One thing that sometimes helps is coming back to FriendFeed and elaborating on your tweet, or to do more than...

- Jeremy (on vacation)
Jeremy, I am not sure... Someone body or the other seems to come and follow you based on pretty much anything you twitter. Of course most of these ppl prob. do that expecting a follow back?
- Bindu Reddy
Bindu: As you had said earlier, most of the followers at twitter don't read what you are tweeting. So it is actually better to get comments as you know those who comment read whatever you post.
- Amit
Amit, I completely agree with you about the comments and how no one reads your tweets. As an example I posted a tweet about "anchors" On FF there are 7 likes and 14 comments.. None on twitter. However at the end of the day for every 20 new followers I get 1-2 new friends. On FF much less of that happens. So from a marketing point of view Twitter is better.
- Bindu Reddy
Bindu, how many people are subbed to you on FF and on Twitter? What are the total number of subs to each? What is the ratio of your subs to the total subs of each? I bet a crisp dollar bill that you are subbed to a higher percentage of subs on FF than on Twitter.
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
from fftogo
MVB interesting point of subs. # of subs on Twitter and FF are about the same but the quality of subs is much better on FF. As far as ration goes... yes FF is much better than Twitter and that does have an impact. However I am going to contend that even for people who have many more subs on Twitter (e.g. scoble?) there is much more engagement on FF than twitter. he probably adds more followers though on twitter
- Bindu Reddy
Bindu, exactly. Unlike you, I, and most others, are not here to market a product or service so we see a different function of Social Media.
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
from iPod
Social Media 101: It's a two-way street - relationships are formed via interactions, not uni-directional broadcast. :)
- See-ming Lee 李思明 SML
This, btw, is true for all forms of marketing / business function - consider a customer support hotline that never get answered by anyone but just sits there as a 1-800 number.
- See-ming Lee 李思明 SML
I'd like to think getting sales is even better than followers, come to think of it, getting leads are better than followers too. Followers are overrated.
- Justin Hitt
I say this from experience... on both sides. I've hurt myself by ill-advised rants, and in contrast, I've looked back sometimes at when I wanted to scream and let it out (and deserved to!) but didn't... and was later very lucky I held back. Still, I don't always follow my own rules. Based on one of my recent posts here, it's likely not only that I'm not ever getting a job at Twitter, but may also not enjoy good career networking with my friends who work or worked there. Life is a very complicated balance.
- Adam Lasnik
sometimes we draw our inner image looking at what's left outside... and burning bridges gives a strong feedback about what we are, and about what we do not want to become in the future. Anyway thank you very much for this message that comes to me in a "pre"-burning-bridges situation :)
- righini riprova
where you planning on applying for a job at Twitter? for what is worth, you didn't say anything that wasn't true. And you did it in a very respectful yet entertaining way. I am sorry to hear it backfired at you but I think that some people should really stop taking themselves so seriously.
- Claudia Petrilli
To clarify, this was meant to be more general in nature, though after ranting about Twitter and other social media stuff, it did get me to thinking about how to balance honest/thoughtful/direct/authentic criticism against potentially harming the feelings and good will of others. - Adam Lasnik
it is a tricky affair to be honest, yes. The balance between honesty/transparency and not hurting others/burning bridges is quite delicate. I much rather hear the truth -even if it hurts a little, than be oblivious as to what's going on. Plus speaking your mind up makes for some very entertaining moments :P but, joke aside, I hear you.

It depends a lot on what others are ready to take. I prefer direct, honest feedback. Not everybody does.

This is clearly not my cat. If this was my cat he's have one arm shoved down into the printer trying to tear up all the internal whirling bits with his bare claws.

Too Funny! Reminds me of the San Mateo Cat Shelter where one of the cats loves to sleep on top of the laster printer where the paper comes out...

1600+ to beat the FFundercats live chat thread. I think with this real time now on all threads we're going to see some truly epic comment numbers.
- Simon Wicks
Ivan, no the picture speaks for itself. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Petr, I have no idea what you mean, but thank you. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
@Kol .. :] that, partially, might have been the purpose.... I don't know it exactly either. :] .. was I reflecting on a cat under the fax, and that it is hard to fax that way ... /?:] ... "underfaxing at its worst" ..
- Petr Buben
there ya have me ! :] .... see, to be honest with you, i saw this pic couple days ago, but i let it go, without posting it ..... what does that make me? :]
- Petr Buben
even a flat cat... faxes just can't handle the hair. You'd have to shave the cat first, else the hair will burn and stick to the drum... a mess! (I am extrapolating from transparencies, mind, i don't have access to a cat to test)
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Hehe, Joelle. This is now tied for the 'likes' top stop. One more then, hehe. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Hehe, Greg. Blimey! Erm, is that not far from 500 likes now? ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Bloody marvelous, Kol. Wish I could like it again... too cute (and help u to 500 likes).
- Roberto Bonini
I couldn't believe it when I logged on from the morning over posting it and saw it was at something 200 likes! You all have a strange fetish with cats and fax machines, hehe. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Am I the only one who saw this and their first thought was - My goodness did someone break that cats neck? It still freaks me out a little
- Steve C
Steve, it does look a little out of place, but cats are pretty bendy. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
They fax much better if you flatten them first. What?
- Kevin Pedraja
So we can put this post to rest now. :-) 505 likes final count, wow! :-D Good night all!
- Kol Tregaskes

- getalifejerk

It's really only social convention which regards it as inappropriate, same with Xeroxing it, like one does with their b__tocks. Wait are we still talking about cats cats here or...

- Kol Tregaskes
I love these sorts of creative things!
- Rick Cogley
I always wish they'd show what these things look like from something other than the exactly perfect perspective. Because to most people passing by these would look totally different.
- Brian Johns
These never get old. Thanks for sharing. :)

I did not kick much ass last night, most of the other skaters were much more experienced than I am. Except, apparently, for the one that led with her head and hit me in the face with her helmet. Big nono...
