I don't think she lives in Wimbledon Common though.

Squatting must be quite a bit more common in the UK than I'm aware of in USA. I can't imagine any squat in America being so clean and organized, people just wouldn't have enough time to settle before being told to move on.
- Jason Wehmhoener
Yes it is not uncommon and there are also people with not too bad jobs doing it, not just new age hippies. To be honest I've seen expensive privately rented accomodation in London that was not much better than your average squat. http://www.alexmasi.co.uk/gallery...

"This video performance is dedicated to the pioneers, Leon Theremin and Bob Moog, who devoted their lives to music in the electronic medium. Without them the music world would not be what it is today."

Great performance on the lead theramin. I've never heard sounds like that from a theramin before (I guess mostly because I've heard it performed in a much higher register).
- Spidra Webster
the high string line is also Theremin. the sound can be treated with filters and effects, like any other electronic instrument. good fun and really hard to master. i've only gotten to try one a few times and was pretty rotten at it.
- Joe Silence is ashes
AFAIK, Clara Rockmore was the first highly visible performer of the instrument, worth looking up. also, i think there's some footage of her performances on YouTube.
- Joe Silence is ashes
I'm familiar with Rockmore. (Yeah, that's why I went back and edited my comment...because I realized there was more than one theramin in the video.) I've also been able to see Dennis James perform live on theramin, accompanying the film "Aelita: Queen of Mars". I played with his theramin for a couple seconds. I can imagine it'd take a long time to figure out. It's very weird. If it were...

well, ppl can accompany singers on violin and it's a monophonic instrument as well. the loop on the left controls volume and the vertical part controls pitch. the hard part for me is the pitching (kind of like a fretless instrument only without any visual cues whatsoever) and keeping the hands steady. mine shake and have done since 1996...the more i try to hold them steady the worse it gets until it becomes a palsy.

correction: you CAN play two notes at a time on a violin, viola, cello or double bass...but it's a little unusual under normal circumstances.

Auto zakacio kolegu s kojim sam prelazila ulicu, pao na mene, moja noga podletela od gumu automobila. Sve u svemu, iscasenje desnog skocnog zgloba, i to dobro.

"Astronomers call the cloud we're running into now the Local Interstellar Cloud or "Local Fluff" for short. It's about 30 light years wide and contains a wispy mixture of hydrogen and helium atoms at a temperature of 6000 C. The existential mystery of the Fluff has to do with its surroundings. About 10 million years ago, a cluster of supernovas exploded nearby, creating a giant bubble of million-degree gas. The Fluff is completely surrounded by this high-pressure supernova exhaust and should be crushed or dispersed by it. "The observed temperature and density of the local cloud do not provide enough pressure to resist the 'crushing action' of the hot gas around it," says Opher. So how does the Fluff survive? The Voyagers have found an answer. "Voyager data show that the Fluff is much more strongly magnetized than anyone had previously suspected—between 4 and 5 microgauss*," says Opher. "This magnetic field can provide the extra pressure required to resist destruction."

"The graceful arc of the Milky Way begins and ends at two mountain peaks in this solemn night sky panorama. Created from a 24 frame mosaic, exposures tracking Earth and sky were made separately, with northern California's Mount Lassen at the left and Mount Shasta at the far right, just below the star and dust clouds of the galactic center. Lassen and Shasta are volcanoes in the Cascade Mountain Range of North America, an arc of the volcanic Pacific Ring of Fire. In the dim, snow-capped peaks, planet Earth seems to echo the subtle glow of the Milky Way's own faint, unresolved starlight."

Project Censored: The top 10 stories not brought to you by mainstream news media in 2009: What did you miss this year? Here's a look: News: National - http://www.indyweek.com/gyrobas...
"Every year since 1976, Project Censored has spotlighted the 25 most significant news stories that were largely ignored or misrepresented by the mainstream press. Now the group is expanding its mission—to promote alternative news sources. But it continues to report the biggest national and international stories that the major media ignored. The term "censored" doesn't mean some government agent stood over newsrooms with a rubber stamp and forbade the publication of the news, or even that the information was completely out of the public eye. The stories Project Censored highlights may have run in one or two news outlets but didn't get the type of attention they deserved."

"Mind Control” is a loaded term, often associated with science fiction and the fantastical by people who are not aware of its very real history. Images of Orwell’s “1984” or Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World” are conjured; dystopic nightmare landscapes assumed only possible in pulp literature. What many people do not know or realize is that these books were based on actual ideas and theories that had been put forward by social and scientific elites for decades, and in some cases, centuries. The desire of the “ruling class” to understand the mechanics of the human mind has left a trail of misery dating back to earliest recorded history. It was not enough for them to subjugate the masses through force; the Elites wanted the people to accept their slavery, to integrate it into their psyches. They wanted us to be “thankful” for our servitude, for only then, would they truly be in control of the world. To understand where this obsession with mind control comes from and how it works, we must first start at the beginning…"

"The festive portrait is the most detailed view of the largest stellar nursery in our local galactic neighborhood. The massive, young stellar grouping, called R136, is only a few million years old and resides in the 30 Doradus Nebula, a turbulent star-birth region in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), a satellite galaxy of our Milky Way. There is no known star-forming region in our galaxy as large or as prolific as 30 Doradus. Many of the diamond-like icy blue stars are among the most massive stars known. Several of them are over 100 times more massive than our Sun. These hefty stars are destined to pop off, like a string of firecrackers, as supernovas in a few million years. The image, taken in ultraviolet, visible, and red light by Hubble's Wide Field Camera 3, spans about 100 light-years. The nebula is close enough to Earth that Hubble can resolve individual stars, giving astronomers important information about the stars' birth and evolution."

"If you went outside at exactly the same time every day and took a picture that included the Sun, how would the Sun appear to move? With great planning and effort, such a series of images can be taken. The figure-8 path the Sun follows over the course of a year is called an analemma. This coming Tuesday, the Winter Solstice day in Earth's northern hemisphere, the Sun will be at the bottom of the analemma. Analemmas created from different latitudes would appear at least slightly different, as well as analemmas created at a different time each day. With even greater planning and effort, the series can include a total eclipse of the Sun as one of the images. Pictured is such a total solar eclipse analemma or Tutulemma - a term coined by the photographers based on the Turkish word for eclipse. The composite image sequence was recorded from Turkey starting in 2005. The base image for the sequence is from the total phase of a solar eclipse as viewed from Side, Turkey on 2006 March 29. Venus was also visible during totality, toward the lower right."
