Daily Number: The Age of Tweets - Pew Research Center
"Like other online pastimes, age is a strong, independent predictor for use of Twitter or other similar status-updating services. Among internet users ages 18 to 24, 37% use Twitter, up from 19% in December 2008. Roughly three-in-ten online Americans ages 25 to 34 tweet, up from 20% in December. Older adults are far less likely to be on Twitter, with roughly one-in-ten internet-using adults between the ages of 45 and 64 tweeting. The median age for a Twitter user is 31, roughly where it was in December when fewer people were on Twitter. By comparison, the median age for a Facebook user is age 33, for a MySpace user it's 26, and for LinkedIn it's 39." - Roger Chen from Bookmarklet

Micah.. I told you I take my likes seriously; ). You *might* want to ask (in a separate post) what percentage of likes were used to "bookmark" a post or save it for later VS actually "liking it". I NEVER used like for that.. but I did use a private group that if filled with my own topics (and comments).. - Chris Myles

0.9009 (6055/6721) - Jason Huebel
OK, so statistically, what ratio results in better interaction on FF? - Jason Huebel
I don't think I could argue that any particular kind of ratio is "best", because if Lurkers like to Lurk and cultivate (via Likes) and the Chatty-ites love to chat, to pump out much many more comments than Likes, each can be happy and make for a great social experience. - Micah Wittman
So I'm fairly balanced, it appears. I would imagine it's because I try to comment on every post I like. That's not always true, obviously. But mostly it is. - Jason Huebel
Just clicking "Like" seems too easy. I feel like I should say something, too. - Jason Huebel

that was my third post... It's interesting to see how the number has changed. of course, I manipulated the number to a degree, because I stopped "liking" things for a while... - Bren, Not Grinchy
Bren, the other thing that can seriously throw off someone's stats is a feed that upon each item it imports adds a comment automatically. - Micah Wittman
true. that can seriously inflate comment stats, of course. Then you have someone like RAPatton, who posts a gazillion comments, in part because of his playlist posts where he will list each song in a separate comment. I found, after this post in fact, that I tended to "like" things much more frequently than comment on them, that I was lurking instead of participating. I have changed the way I use ff rather considerably, and I think for the better. - Bren, Not Grinchy

Using R for Introductory Statistics - http://www.anobii.com/books...
~ imrchen把《Using R for Introductory Statistics》放到書櫃上 Using R for Introductory Statistics presents a self-contained treatment of statistical topics and the intricacies of the R software. The pacing is such that students are able to master data manipulation and exploration before diving into more advanced statistical concepts. The book treats exploratory data analysis with more attention than is typical, includes a chapter on simulation, and provides ... - Roger Chen

- Roger Chen from Bookmarklet

Daily Number: Islam and Violence - Pew Research Center
"Detailed questions about perceptions of Islam show that a plurality of the public (45%) says Islam is no more likely than other faiths to encourage violence among its believers; 38% take the opposite view, saying that Islam does encourage violence more than other faiths do. Views on this question have fluctuated in recent years, with the current findings showing that the view that Islam is connected with violence has declined since 2007, when 45% of the public said that Islam encourages violence more than other religions do, while 39% said Islam is no more likely than other faiths to encourage violence." - Roger Chen from Bookmarklet
