With less than transparency, the AFL-CIO just issued a statement endorsing "expanding the nation's pipeline system." Although it did not explicitly endorse the Keystone XL pipeline, the labor federation nevertheless managed to extend its blessing to the project while hiding behind vague generalities. However, the logic of its position is unambiguous: the federation is in favor of extending pipelines in general and without qualification; the Keystone XL is a pipeline. Therefore logic compels us to infer that the federation supports the extension of the Keystone XL pipeline.
The recent announcement that the United States would increase its "non lethal" military aid to Syria's rebels shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Some speculated that Obama - having been repeatedly proved wrong about the Syria government's stability - would leave Syria in silent humiliation.
Over three hundred members of the Washo Tribe of Nevada and California have signed an official recall petition against the tribe's Chair, Wanda Bachelor. So far, Bachelor and her followers at tribal headquarters have responded to the petition -by simply ignoring it. The "leaders" of the tribe have issued a gag order against the tribal members. Under the rules of this illegal "gag order," tribal members are allowed to attend tribal council meetings, -but aren't allowed to speak out, as part of the proceedings.

Mapuche leader Mijael Carbone recently escaped malicious prosecution in Chile. Carbone claims that actors within the government of Sebastián Piñera have been working to stymie the Mapuche, who seek to secure the rights to their ancestral lands. Piñera's government is the direct lineage of Augusto Pinochet, has direct ties to Wall Street, and is working to institute new laws with draconian punishment for "Occupy" type protests and vaguely discribed "civil disturbances"
At what point might we trigger a permafrost tipping point? New research from the caves of Siberia points to a threshold temperature of just 1.5 degrees celsius. At that temperature we could see large swathes of permafrost across Siberia melting resulting in the release of more than 1,000 gigatons of carbon and methane. This would be a substantial climate feedback resulting in even greater global warming. There would also be substantial damage to natural and human environments and structures.
A series of major extreme weather events in the Northern hemisphere including the heatwave in the United States in 2011, the Russian heatwave of 2010, the Pakistani floods of 2010 have now been attributed to a common physical cause. The scientists suggest in a new scientific study that man-made climate change repeatedly disturbs the patterns of atmospheric flow - the atmospheric Rossby waves of the jet stream - around the globe's Northern hemisphere through a subtle resonance mechanism.

There were about 40 people at the meeting, many of whom signed and mailed the postcards that very same day."
If the US removed the cap on social security taxes, public spirit and a sense of generational fairness would return to the states. At present, there is a cap at $106K. If you make $4 million, you only pay a social security tax on the first $106K.
