Is there a way to get a friend feed onto a personal web site?
- Peter Fletcher
Thanks for posting this Steve. And Dawn, are you deliberately ironic? Regardless, this post is for those who may not have the time to engage actively here, but will still benefit from being part of the service.
- Hutch Carpenter
Nice work but a lil late on this BNO
- sofarsoShawn
Peter, you can also embed an individual thread on your site by copying the code from the "Share" link

Oh, Dawn, that's rich cause I blocked you for bringing vapid, banal, and inconsequential stuff to friendfeed a while back. All you have to do is look at all the items from the Google I/O conference to see just how wrong you are: http://is.gd/HaUQ
- Robert Scoble
"Personal Content Database" is quite apt (especially if we could have our service icons back) - When working in twitter and waiting for twitter's page to refresh a new post, it is quicker to jump to FriendFeed, because the post is there instantly.
- Chris Loft
BS, Robert. You blocked me because I'm not one of your sycophants but actually challenge your assumptions, motivations and actions. Like when I said you were neglecting your blog, you retaliated against me, but just two weeks later, Arrington said the same thing and you took that seriously. But I'm just a female, right Robert?...somebody you keep calling stupid, even though I'm sure my...

Dawn: you don't even have a clue about why I blocked you. It's cause you were arguing religion and politics and had no clue who Ralph Reed was and then you followed it up with the lamest posts on global warming I've seen that it made me wonder why I was arguing with someone so clueless (and I forget there were a few other things you were arguing about). So much for that high grade point average. By the way, I don't remember Mike Arrington ever talking about that stuff.
- Robert Scoble
BTW: I unblocked her for some reason, I still don't know why. Oh, yeah, my brother stuck up for her and so far I've seen just the lamest additions to the community, like this one here. If friendfeed's discussion is vapid, banal, and inconsequential IT IS OUR FAULT. So, Dawn, this one is on you. Good riddens, I say.
- Robert Scoble
Yeah, right, Robert. I'm so lame that Louis Gray announced both on his blog and on FF that I'm a great person to follow. And you're comment about Ralph Reed just once again shows your bigotry against Christians, lumping us all in one basket - that far right fundamentalist basket that you once belonged to and now despise. I never did belong to it. I'm Catholic, not "born again." I've had...

Btw, two people have DM'd me that Scoble is best ignored. I can't do that. Being the target of repeated and consistent defamation by Robert Scoble isn't the same as Joe Blow FFer calling you an idiot. Robert's words carry a lot of weight in the tech world. I've asked Robert privately and politely to back off and as you can see, he's refused to do that. I not only have the right to defend myself, but I have a duty to my present and future investors and to my future employees.

FriendFeed's usefullness to me would increase 100% if I could automatically filter out every post with "friendfeed" in the title. That way I could get rid of the constant yapping about how great it is, and actually use it usefully.

Brian, you need to be here and report back: Mobile Chowdown 2009 Saturday 10/10 11am-3pm,... :: Daryn Nakhuda on Tumblr - http://blog.daryn.net/post...
Translatorize - [Sneak Preview] - Bookmarklets and user scripts that translate real-time social network user-generated language content in sites such as Facebook and FriendFeed. The Google Translate service, via the API, is used to perform the source to destination text conversion. - http://translatorize.com/for/
I've taken the friendfeedTranslation script and ported it to Facebook - slightly enhanced over the original app even for the v0.1 release. Also, there's now a unified brand to this growing family of scripts: Translatorize (www.translatorize.com). The open code code is hosted directly from its google code project http://code.google.com/p... and the bookmarklets are served directly from there as well for robust performance. I've geared up for this script release much more than any previous, having in mind that the user-base size of Facebook is _slightly_ ;) larger than FriendFeed's, and I have no idea what the uptake might be, but it will be fun to see where it goes. Thank you for any feedback you can give to me and this project.
- Micah Wittman
Ok, Facebook, there you go. Now I can get back to FriendFeed :D
- Micah Wittman
OK, I have to ask, mainly because I am curious, do you have any plans on supporting Twitter? Besides the obvious use for translating tweets in languages other than your own into something you can better understand, I have at least 1 friend that would go absolutely nuts over the idea of translating EVERYTHING on Twitter into Esperanto.
- April Russo (app103)
April, I suspect Twitter will be next (cooincidently, it's probably the easiest of the three to code against - but we scratch our own itches first and foremost, I suppose).
- Micah Wittman
I've never used Facebook but I will to test out any of your stuff Micah :)
- metalerik
metalerik, oh, I see. He mentions having friends who write in various languages in Facebook and asks how hard it might be to port over the script from FF to FB. If you get hooked up with FB and try it out, let me know how it goes :)
- Micah Wittman
Updated Translatorize for Facebook to v0.1.1 - bookmarklets are auto-update, but the new userscript needs to be installed over the older version. Fixed control panel not closing - was especially an issue on latest Firefox release. More feedback from anyone would be appeciated. Thanks again. :)
- Micah Wittman
from iPhone
Is it possible for the script to run automatically, instead of requiring clicking translate?
- Mike Chelen
Mike, the bookmarklet by nature can't be auto-translate - but, the user script (X to English: http://wittman.org/project... ) can be. All you need to do is change two config options in the script. Set var autoTranslateEnabled = true; and var autoTranslateRealtimeEnabled = true;
- Micah Wittman
HOW TO EDIT A GREASEMONKEY SCRIPT INSTRUCTIONS (friendfeedTranslate as the example): Right click on the GreaseMonkey icon on the bottom of the browser > Manage User Scripts > select friendfeedTranslate > click Edit button (it may ask you to choose a text editor, such as notepad) > in the /************ Configuration **********/ section (around line 40) look for and set...

editing the greasemonkey script will be fine, thanks for the explanation about which parameters to adjust =)

another question, would it be possible to integrate with a page embed? so visitors to a website would see the translated version. thanks!
- Mike Chelen
Mike, how would the javascript get injected into the iframed / embedded friendfeed page? Someone could reimplement the friendfeed service with the API and use the javascript in the bookmarklet code - that's certainly possible, though.
- Micah Wittman
"Japan and South Korea are still way ahead of the U.S. when it comes to turning cell phones into mobile payment devices. But the concept could finally be gaining some steam, especially after Starbucks on Wednesday unveiled a new iPhone app that allows people to pay for their coffee drinks with their iPhones. Now, a Seattle startup called Billing Revolution -- led by former WeddingChannel.com founder and former AT&T Wireless executive Andy Kleitsch -- is looking to take the idea even further. Billing Revolution today announced a partnership with Authorize.net to help merchants who use the payment gateway conduct mobile transactions."

I don't drive, and Josh only has the car manual and some other car-related papers in the glove box. But if it were mine, I'd have toilet paper, hand cream, a first aid kit, baby wipes, a plastic bag, paper & pen, a hairbrush & band, and a pair of underpants.

Thanks Anika. Even though the collapse was devastating, its amazing for me to see and watch the animals that DID survive. There are others ;)
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
I'm glad it wasn't a complete wipeout. I've seen friends cry because they lost one type of coral or fish throughout the system. Hell, *my* stomach dropped when I saw your tank. I wish them all the best of luck and hopefully you'll get some fishies in there soon enough.
- Admiral Anika
Yeah. I haven't really dwelled upon the fishes lost, but I do miss the Sargassum Trigger. Surprisingly one of the mean and ugly blue damsels actually survived.
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
It's the stony and soft corals that I'll miss the most. I've had some of them growing for 10 years. That's what hurts the most. Let me find a pic..... I lost all of this: http://www.flickr.com/photos...
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Looking at the destruction of my garden due to lack of water, I can relate to the loss. I keep walking by this bare spot where I had a beautiful euphorbia growing. A lot of my water-loving plants are gone. I think those hurt the most because they were rare, expensive and splurges considering how water conservative the rest of my yard is.
- Admiral Anika
Plants are my second area of specialty as I have a BS in plant physiology and botany, so I definitely can relate. The fish I can get over, the corals I've lost that I've been growing for nearly 10 years, I'm not sure sure about. I'm thinking about changing that tank to be a fish/swim tank instead of corals now....

Confession: I've had near persistent lower back pain (left side) for the past month and it REALLY sucks. I just started physical therapy over the weekend and while I'm hopeful that things will improve, I am in a LOT of pain. The hard part is that sitting at my desk/workstation is the worst possible position to be in. #shootingpaindownmybackandleg
I'm sorry Brian. I hope it does get better with your therapy. I've dealt with a similar problem for over 10 years.
- Admiral Anika
TENS unit (goes to google). Oh right - like these? http://www.google.com/product... I've had 2 PT sessions where at the end they used one of those machines around the muscles near my left sciatic nerve. Seemed to help.
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
I wonder if they're using an EMS. They use those a lot in PT. Does it make your muscle tense up like you're contracting it? A TENS unit doesn't do that. It's just a tingly/pins-and-needles feeling but stimulates nerves and helps with pain.
- Rochelle
Yeah. They hooked up multiple electrodes to specific muscle locations that stimulated the muscles surrounding my nerve to help un-clench them and relieve pressure on the nerve. Similar strategy as TENS unit I suppose. Thanks for the advice.
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Sure. I just went to a training to be able to apply TENS units to clients last weekend so I'm all revved up about it. :) My unit is coming from the UK next week!
- Rochelle
I'm also doing a daily regimen of stretching/exercises which definitely helps. It's the sitting at the computer that is killing me. I can't avoid having to work on my laptop or dual monitor workstation during the day, but I'm now thinking about moving to some kind of stand-up workstation.

Acupuncture. The GF has a vertebra problem (horses ages back) that the chiro's said would only be relieved by surgery. 6 months of hoodoo voodoo treatments and she's been 99% pain free for over a year so far. I'm almost to the point where I will be going for it myself. I'm a holdout because I just like Advil ;)
- John Rubier
Acupuncture helps me with pain issues. My acupuncturist does cupping, too, which is awesome! Pain treatment is an area where studies have shown acupuncture to be of some use. I went into it not expecting it to help, but it did. As for cupping - I've heard of some PT/massage folks using other forms of suction in their practice, so I figure it isn't much different.

"Three great tastes that taste great together? We suppose we'll find out soon enough. HP has stuffed NVIDIA ION LE graphics into the new (already leaked) Mini 311 netbook-ish PC, but instead of being forced by Microsoft to go Windows Vista or Windows 7 to get the new chip in there, HP has stood by good ol' Windows XP. It comes with a big caveat, however: "Streaming HD video playback not currently supported," and of course an Atom N270 processor is still an N270, no matter what graphics you pair it with -- stay away from heavy Flash video, dear friend. The 11.6-inch WXGA screen dreams of something more, however, and the ION chip can decode HD video and output over HDMI. Of course, it's hard to complain about the $400 starting pricetag."

Benjamin: The juices in Belize are amazing. They make fresh juices at road stands, and fill used 1 liter Sprite/Coke bottles. Water is amazing. Sharks and rays swam through our legs. So used to tourists, you can touch them. Budget place for water stuff (as is the Red Sea - around Egypt & Sinai Peninsula). Egypt was 10 Euro for an 8-hr boat ride (including lunch & snorkel gear). Forget how much Belize was...

I had such a GREAT time in Belize a few years back! What a great trip. Have a most excellent time Benjamin! Be sure to check out "Dready's" on Ambergris Caye and stay away from the kids who feed chickens to 25' crocs! :D

I would definitely visit Altun-Ha, a Mayan Ruin.

Joel: How does Altun-Ha compare to Caracol? I went to Caracol a few years ago. Met a guy from Houston who grew up there and never knew it was a Maya ruin until it appeared on the news ~5-8 yrs ago - "Hey, that's my hometown."

I grew up in Belize City, I prefer Altun-ha
- jamar78
Thanks Joel! I'll check out Altun-ha next time I'm in Belize also. Have you visited Tikal or any of the Mayan sites in Guatemala? I was thinking about visiting Tikal last visit, but did the closer Caracol instead. When I visited Caracol, it had only been excavated for 2-3 years, so it was new..

Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to do so. Have you ever been to the Belize Zoo?
