Kobo Shakes Up The E-Book World : Becoming A Writer - Seriously - http://becoming-a-writer-serio...
Writers should be very excited about Kobo. It appears to me to be, at the moment at least, the most far-reaching distribution channel for any writer considering an e-book release. The expanse of Kobo’s vision is spelled out on its blog. It aims to make any book available on any reading device, including dedicated e-book readers, desktop computers, smartphones such a iPhone, Android, PalmPre, and whatever else comes along in the future. In fact, a number of reading applications are already available for download right on Kobo’s website, with more to come. - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)

Our return just got very complicated: New Restrictions Quickly Added for Air Passengers - http://www.nytimes.com/2009...
Seems absurd to me, making arbitrary rules *after* a failed attempt that match the exact pattern of that attempt - as if anyone would try the same thing twice! We're still taking shoes off for scanning due to one failed attempt, and not allowed a toiletry bag or liquids, and restriction just get added. It's silly, because looking for a specific plot does not make anyone more secure, if anything it blinds people to the new things someone might try. And now I have to figure out what to do now that i cannot take a small handbag and a small computer bag on a plane anymore. - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie) from Bookmarklet
and the 1 hour rule? totally silly - as if blowing up a plane 2 hours out would not have the same effect? - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
:( absurd is right - winckel
they just have to do something, else media and public opinion will skewer them with "why arent they doing anything???" - but alas just about anything they can do is useless and just for public opinion effect - do something over the top and at least people NOTICE that something is being done. Never mind that it inconveniences 100% of passengers for 0% security improvement - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Joelle new security measures = huge hassle for us returning to the UK, as our bag arrangements are no longer allowed.
:( - winckel
@ashalynd a sandwich that is made to keep 10 (or more) months just cannot be food
i'd call it an artificial food-like product - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)

ashalynd @meryn although some of it is simply the huge legal and accounting apparatus required by laws and rules, patents, TM etc.
@ashalynd @meryn I'm pretty sure the servers, code base and volunteer basis could be done without millions in admin, travel and marketing
@ashalynd @meryn I have no idea, but I suspect the management is mostly about the extras, fundraising from corporates, products etc.
wikipedia asking for donations again - i'd be more willing if the money didnt mostly go in the bureaucracy of it and 1million for the ceo
I don't know where the money goes in Wikipedia, but there have been some charities I wouldn't give to for similar reasons. - Ian May

"I know I have too many unplayed games (and havent even updated the embarrassing list with what I bought the last few months…) but it will be hard to resist to get my hands on games that were on my watchlist they get below £10! I need help :D" - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie) from Bookmarklet

digitalmaverick: How do contries like Switzerland cope? And why have British transport specialists not studied what they do? - http://twitter.com/digital...
@digitalmaverick countries like Switzerland cope mostly by spending more on all transportation systems, and having spent more for the last 20 years - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
All right @silpol A.T. what can you say about this N900 thing - R is ready to buy it now :)
let's wait till it is in shops, ok? because we went public but we hasn't set sales date yet :D - A.T.
That's just sooo unfair. - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
I'm sorry :-( I didn't mean to be rude... Let's wait - I have 0% control over dates. And... My job is similar to curling sport - I can only polish ice in front of that stone... I'm sorry :-((( - A.T.
don't be - it is certainly not your fault. - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
just to point out that R is watching hour long N900 videos on youtube from the Maemo days, and pondering how he could do all sorts of clever things - and we still havent a way to buy one :) - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
probably I owe phone call to R and my apologies for hard work against premature release.... sorry. - A.T.
I should put you in touch so he can put his "could one use the camera to detect eye position in order to do head tracking" and other things he has come up with lately. Just had to kick him off the computer as he was on youtube embarquing on a one hour presentation. Guess I might as well preorder, which countries will get it first, any guess? - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
UK should be fine tho I have no clue about tricky tax zones like all those islands around UK... y'know, I'm _that_ close to call your family and manage your expectations slightly... I'm no salesman, rather engineering manager on this project and probably have some extra hints to consider, granted estimated pricetag - A.T.
don't you worry, seriously - I think it is the fact that the whole thing is quite open and not quite finished that makes him so interested :) - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
well, the pity fact is that hardware is in production already but we have to cleanup "last items" in software to avoid bitter effect "in your face" - our predecessors from Symbian has wasted (almost) all credit of trust in this domain, and we have to fight uphill battle doing it as close to 100% as possible. - A.T.
hurry a bit, my 2007 phone is starting to die :) - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
mmm... I thought I had been spamming yesterday like there is no tomorrow - we started _delivery_ yesterday, check your traditional source of gadgetry indulge - A.T.
yay, i missed that. Busy negociating a job - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
still, told you your horoscope said it! - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
if only mine... :) - A.T.
so who will have it first, the big mobile service providers? the sim free mobile phone shops? the nokia store? (still in "preorder" mode) - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
logistics we have inside is complex and quick, it might be everywhere already, in not so huge slots... I will keep you posted - A.T.
been waiting since... when did we have our first discussion? June? July? so can wait another day to know where to order from - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
I can't discuss it in public, and this thread IS public (you did it that way)... I will write you email later then. - A.T.
that's correct, it was something that i cc'd you in to make sure it got your attention and give the N900 a bit of publicity as a nice gesture - we have a private one elsewhere :D - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
i also found it at mobilefun.co.uk £459.95 http://tidd.ly/bc576b13 - but who will have stock is the big question. I'd buy from mobilefun since i have used them in the past and they deliver fast, but how big are they in the pecking order of deliveries? - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
great, take my mob phone from FB, and give it to R. so _if_ something won't be exactly smooth, I could help (just SMS, I could call back) - A.T.
above and beyond the call of duty :) - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
i have an amazon.com preorder (US) but am wondering - any difference betwen US and EU handsets? that you are aware of (and can say in my public feed) - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
not sure - US frequency plan does not give much optimism - A.T.
so its nowhere to be found except Nokia official shops, and then not even uless you preordered. ah well, it will wait - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
industrial capacity is 100% busy so it is matter only of waiting now - A.T.
amazon.com told me dec. 8 shipping - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
to address in UK it might take more time - A.T.
hehehe no it is to address in the US, we're visitng family over christmas - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
hope your family won't break into your box before you cross Atlantics ;) - A.T.
i'm more worried about them leaving the box out in the snow... - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
that's not a problem for device made in Nordic country :) - A.T.
poor amazon, they're not getting the stock: We're writing about the order you placed on December 01 2009 (Order# 105-2008801-0098622). Unfortunately, we are unable to ship the item(s) as soon as we expected and need to provide you with a new estimate of when the item(s) may be delivered: December 14 2009 - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
my bet? dec 28 - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
no bets from my side - just yesterday had been talking to one of production line managers, line works 24hrs non/stop, no way to conduct some specific tests :-/ they are literally baking 24 hrs non-stop - A.T.
my bet was purely based on it arriving just to late as we have to fly back - it's a Murphy bet - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
ahem... I see. I hope it won't be that bitter... - A.T.
according to Amazon R's gift unit shipped yesterday - should have it monday... - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
wow, finally, after all this ordeal... I'm sorry it took us that long... one day I could be telling whole story, not now tho - A.T.
I'm so going to regret buying it for him not me :D - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
couldn't you *secretly borrow* and play? :D - A.T.
oh, i'll do it not-so-secretly :D But I am working at the moment, so wont have time to play, so it is only fair he gets it. He better write some apps, though - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Have it here, beautiful device. The only time I'd been able to play with it was 5 minutes at the flagship store, but it's very very nice. - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
thanks, hope it will serve even better :) - A.T.
I let R have his N900 early - and that's a gift he didnt expect :) - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
oh, you left him already unboxed gadget? how rude of you :))) - A.T.
snowy white landscape today, and the first of several family holiday gathering
They're announcing a multi day blizzard and they do not mean the games company... - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
warzabidul: @iphigenie I think of snow not games when I hear blizzard - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
I did fall for "Fallen Earth" at 50% off - will take some time to download though
