Speaking of Feedly.. I'm in the preferences now finding neat options like... Finance Should the feedly digest include a summary of the news related to the stocks you are tracking in Google Finance? Yes No
- Brodie Beta
Why doesn't Feedly have an iPhone app? Or if they do.. it's not available in (Canadian) iTunes
- Brodie Beta
NetNewsWire on the desktop, Reeder on iPhone.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Brodie - They don't yet, but I think they're actively working on it. I'm hoping it will get here, soon.
- Curtiss Grymala
Google Reader, but I like Feedly. It's just that I treat RSS articles more like an inbox and I just want to march through stuff as efficiently as possible. Feedly is a bit too magazinesque for that, IMHO.
- Ken Sheppardson
History has shown that if resources can't be allocated via the price mechanism, they will be allocated via some other way. For example, when governments impose price caps on scarce goods, the results are shortages, long lines, and corruption (as government officials ensure that they and their friends can get gas or vodka or whatever when no one else can).
- John E. Bredehoft
So what would happen if the price of services were capped? For argument's sake, let's assume that the wage was set at the Mexican minimum wage, which last I heard was approximately US$5 per day. In Mexico, the president of a manufacturing company would therefore have to conform to said wage. Assume for the moment that he/she can't arrange to get paid in other ways (e.g. the company...
- John E. Bredehoft
Meanwhile, let's go to Bangladesh, where US $5/day is a fortune. The company, suddenly hit with a huge wage bill, may temporarily (or perhaps permanently) lay off workers just so they can meet payroll.
- John E. Bredehoft
Wages effectively help to allocate scarce resources, and if the wage structure isn't present, how will those resources be allocated?
- John E. Bredehoft
Since everyone is getting paid the same, everyone would probably try to get the easiest job. Why work hard for $5 if you can work easy for $5?
- Dave Roth
Very bad. You think we have a dire need for more engineers and doctors now? Wait until you get paid the same as for washing dishes or painting artworks all day.
- Alex Scoble
I thought of ONE positive. Provided the job is available, you can choose to do the thing that you really love. Some people sacrifice their dreams because they need to make money. In this case, there's no need to sacrifice a dream because it's low-paying.
- John E. Bredehoft
Unfortunately, John, no one would go in to management or become a school principal, nor would people willingly do really nasty or dangerous jobs. It would also destroy our ability to have an educated populace as there would now be no reason to go to school.
- Alex Scoble
That's why the Chinese are phasing out Communism. Without incentives to excel, no one does.
- Robert Hafer
from iPhone
Technically not communism, or at least not as Karl Marx envisioned it. "To each according to his need" is not the same as "one wage to rule them all." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...
- John E. Bredehoft
What about sharing out all the money in the world between everyone equally, what would that do?
- Erik Retallick
I'm going with Robert and Jeremy... Commie! Don't worry Kol I won't name names=) It sounds like a good plan but Alex is right. People wouldn't bother to go school for years and years to make the same money as their neighbour who's a McDonalds worker.
- Brodie Beta
That's because everyone ran to Greader which has a long way to go before it can live up to FF. Conversations on there are way too hard. Worse than Twitter.
- Kimber Scott
If I ran the world...this would get you a 6 month prison sentence.....
- Stephanie Segel
Our local SCCA chapter has several loaner helmets painted that color. Thefts went down dramatically compared to when they were just black.
- dthree
I'm not so sure. I once saw an old VW bug with a "Girl Power" bumper sticker being driven around by some skin head looking dudes.
- Kevykev
Except that for a thief to steal this, they would have it stripped back and turned into a real Ferrari in around 30 minutes flat (including travel time) so I don't think it would be that much of a deterrent. ;)
- Travis Koger
Interesting article Todd. I think I'll try to find more evidence to support his thoughts. I've mostly been reading Oxygen magazine as well as Clean Eating magazine. They all seem to support the euro-style way of eating.
- Brodie Beta
I don't remember people eating that way in Europe. It was mostly about eating less and better. Is that really the standard?
- Todd Hoff
There's a street near my house that does this huge haunted house thing. Since we can't afford to buy candy for trick-or-treaters this year, I'm going to do that instead. Should be fun.
- Admiral Anika
We tend you have fireworks displays or big bonfires. :-) Here in Edenbridge we usually have a massive Guy in the shape of the disliked celebrity of the time. Last year is was Jonathan Ross and Russel Brand: http://www.edenbridgetown.com/bonfire...
- Kol Tregaskes
That's great.. We need a holiday to mock h8'd celebrities here in Canada!
- Brodie Beta
Absolutely. We had Tony Blair one year, I was very happy when he went up in flames (his Guy I mean :-)).
- Kol Tregaskes
You set them on fire ?! OMG. That's awesome. I say we make the date Dec 1st in Canada. We can begin our first with the burning of the Celine Dion doll.
- Brodie Beta
Hehe. Do Canadians really not like Celine Dion that much? I thought they didn't like Alanis Morrissette or Avril Lavigne more? ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Gosh, that was terrible grammar. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
Oh No. They do like her... but I don't.
- Brodie Beta
Ah, hehe. I've liked a few of her previous albums, yes it's a guilty pleasure, but I've not liked any of her recent stuff.
- Kol Tregaskes
Hopefully the going to Jerome, AZ with Mr and my teen girls. Should be FUN and it's one of the few places hosting an all ages dance. Plus, Mr and I can wander over to The Spirit Room for the bands! Jerome was a ghost town and likes to claim hauntings :)
- R1CC1
I'm not saying she doesn't have a great voice. I just really h8 her music. I just sent out info about your holiday on Twitter =) Too cool !
- Brodie Beta
Halloween I'm cross bike racing http://www.rollapaluza.com/... no plans for Guy Fawkes, have missed it 8 years in a row since I moved to UK
- Yant
going out trick or treat'n with my friend & his kids, seeing that i dont have any, then off to a rocky horror show where the still perform the act under the screen, ;)
- chaz2b
Brodie, some of her stuff is too much, for sure. Yeah just seen the tweet, hehe, thanks. :-) Start a petition! ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Friends, music, fun... still no costume plan tho. Pressure's on
- Holly Rae
wife and kids and i, assuming none of us is ill anymore, are going over to my parents' haus to hand out candy and scare the pudding out of trick-or-treaters. i will be looping the Nirvana versus Rick Astley mashup interspersed with some of Arch Oboler's Drop Dead! album over a borrowed small PA system.
- Joe Silence is not Santa
i should probly snag some of the creepier kilowatt-power moonflower lights from a DJ friend of mine to project onto the treetops.
- Joe Silence is not Santa
Pig Roast at my brother's new place. Should be awesome.
- Alex Scrivener
Not much, probably just stopping at home, and having a quiet night.
- Tyson Key
Halloween's our first wedding anniversary. There's a bottle of Krug sitting in the fridge. Nuff said.
- Mark H
Well, I *was* looking forward to seeing the trick 'r treaters who risk knocking on the door of Doctor Zombie (that's me, by the way! I have lights and bats and everything!), but it turns out that some a-hole has arranged for the local Guy Fawkes/Fireworks display to take place on the 31st, too. We live in a small town, so this pretty much ensures that most people will watching that, rather than trick or treating.. :-(
- Andrew Terry
Kol, you don't call it Guy Fawkes' Day over there? It was a big holiday in my college dorm, I never heard it called Bonfire Night. Of course, in college every night was bonfire night...
- Lo
Dressing up in one of a few costumes. I have a large trunk full of them and generally decide on the night. Definitely hitting the dance floor and having a carefree night. Kol, go out and play. How could you stay in on Bonfire Night? Dancing is good for the soul. xo
- Fossil Huntress
I saw blair witch in the theatre.. The movie really effected me. I still can't believe it when ppl tell me they thought it was sh@*
- Brodie Beta
I made sure to keep away from the hype at the time of it's release. I think that helped a lot. I think if you followed the hype it spoiled it for you. Great movie!
- Kol Tregaskes
I try not to get tied up with movie hype. It only disappoints me and makes me h8 the movie.
- Brodie Beta
Yep. I only watch the trailers and that's it. If it looks good, if it's got actors I like or if it's created by directors/writers/producers I've liked in the past then I'll watch it.
- Kol Tregaskes
Yo, @Jesse, I'm really happy for you, and Imma let you finish, but I just got to say that Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time!
- Mike Fruchter
Thank you to my 50,002 followers. Look through my followers here and compare to my Twitter followers and what do you notice? I see fewer spammers. Fewer bots. Fewer social media experts. Thanks for joining me on FriendFeed! It has been an awesome two years!
You're welcome ;-) A question though, where do you think we geeks will congregate next? I'm thinking that since Facebook now owns the Friendfeed devs, FF will eventually starve to death... hopefully not.
- Roberto Teixeira
But I notice a lot of users interact on FF via Twitter not directly on FF. Also FF faces tough competition from the likes of Posterous and Tumblr which offer more functionality with similar ease of use as FF.
- Roger
Roberto: Not so long ago this very FF post from scobleizer would get something about 300+ likes and 150+ comments. Sadly, FF users are surely looking elsewhere.
- Arvind
FF is ok, but its not the be all and end all Robert.
- Micky
I too think that friendfeed is still a winner... people that left just filtered themselves out of my conversations. They are no longer discoverable here to me. Their loss (imho)
- Chris Heath
Your welcome :). Friendfeed really really is awesome
- alfred westerveld
Yes Robert and Friendfeed is massively technically superior - Makes it even sadder that the platform here's being ignored by the new owners.
- Jim Connolly
Still the best place for discovery to me despite less interaction.
- Eric Logan
Robert - I love the community and friends here on FriendFeed. I am so happy I was on FF in early 2008 and got to experience it's wild and wooly growth path. Chatting with you and all these cool geeks is really fun. I've learned TONS from you guys and I truly appreciate the friendship too! :)
- Susan Beebe
I agree, way less marketing gurus and spammers =)
- Brodie Beta
Wewt! We are awesome, especially me </ego>
- Danny Minick
In my experience, I've been using ff more rather than less since the fb aquisition. I don't see why I would migrate to another community ATM. To me, Friendfeed is king. :) King of social media, that is.
- 'Like' robot (frɐnc)
Me, I'm sticking with FF for the foreseeable future. I'm even going to do my part to promote it, at least to my (right now) 1K+ Twitter followers.
- Dennis Jernberg
Friend Feed is the Future Robert and you just may be our Faithfull leader! :)
- PeaceMakersInc
Thank you, Robert. I have learned quite a bit from you-and you have created/moderated some tremendous discussions/issues. Best wishes to you and your family.
- Harold Cabezas
LOL. I agree. I have 413 followers on Twitter. When I ask a question, I get no responses. Same here. Does nobody like me?
- Zachary TG
zachary check their subscriptions against their subscribers and you might have an answer there
- ffcode
yup! there is a decline...don't know what friendfeeders are upto...foursquare might not be the complete answer
- ffcode
I'm still here. I tried doing the Google Reader thing. While it's a great reader, I think it SUCKS as a social platform. I still use it, but I don't expect as much out of it as I used to. FriendFeed and posterous are what I like best for what I do. Facebook is getting a little chaotic for me. I've made lists, but I think I need to start pruning... LONG LIVE FRIENDFEED!
- Kimber Scott
U do like normal folks like us, who does have a life, like having hobbies such as movies, taking pictures, making jokes and listening 2 old radio jokes on the Internet lol...and wondering why spell check doesn't work somedays
- polou/indigo_bow
Has it really been 2 years? OMG that was fast.
- Elliott Ng
ROFL! No bots; just wait! The bots are coming, they always come.
- Brandon Smietana
In twenty years I would be surprised if the bots were not more human than the humans. "Statistical Natural Language Processing: When Humans Fail the Turing Test", coming to a research journal near you!
- Brandon Smietana
Kol: That's pretty neat. Wish it was shorter like wave.com or gwave.com (Google owns gwave.com anyway) or something.
- Nick Humphries
i think this @googlewave.com email address is a temporary thing during testing. after it goes live you should be able to just use it with your google account. at least that's what i think:)
- Taylan Aydınlı
if only you could bold an announcement in FF like you can in Wave :D [oh, and my username on Wave is the splendiforously original "adamlasnik"]
- Adam Lasnik
Guys, please read the title and the first comment. This is not a request for invites. This is for users who already have an account and want to share their account name. For invites see this thread: http://ff.im/91M9R
- Kol Tregaskes
My Wave ID is erier2003@googlewave.com. Feel free to add me and we can Wave!
- Eric Geller
Still don't really know what this is (Or Google Voice for that matter). This is like high school all over again. The cool kids are ignoring me!
- James Ferguson

- Jamie Vidamour
Everyone, read the title and first comment. This is NOT an invite thread!
- Kol Tregaskes

- amarquart
Blimey. I must be going mad, is it not clear that this is NOT an invite thread. For invites see here: http://ff.im/91M9R
- Kol Tregaskes
Not sure if anyone else woudl find it useful, i'm going to add a load of you as friends and create a wave just to try stuff out in. Feel free to remove yourself from the wave or use it as you feel. Also feel free to add anyone else you think might want to be in on it
- Jamie Vidamour
Shockingly, I am robdiana@googlewave.com
- Rob Diana
Kamilah, you are kamilah.gill. You can find this if you click on yourself in the Contacts sidebar. You address (like everyone) is shown there.
- Kol Tregaskes
Karoli: is that your google wave nick or are you sniffling? :)
- Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
I'm sniffling because I don't have a google wave nick. Despite two invites, there is still nothing in my inbox. I am not in with the in crowd. :(
- Karoli
Karoli -- It appears as if there's a batch of emails going out now. Keep checking.
- Christopher A Carr
<- Waves hello! :) I'm at holger.eilhard@googlewave.com
- Holger Eilhard
hello holger, can you pls send me invite? fatihkurtoglu@gmail.com
- Mehmet Fatih Kurtoglu
Invite came today! I'm jalada@googlewave.com. As part of the second/third 'Wave' of people getting invites looks like I don't get any to share out.
- Jalada
M Fatih Kurtoglu: Sorry, I don't yet have any nominations to give out...
- Holger Eilhard
Hey, I'm in too ! :)) tagyboy@googlewave.com
- fwed
Just got my invite this morning as well. FF embed seems to be working fine. I've tried the Wolfram Alpha robot but didn't get it to work yet.
- François Dongier
librarysupporter@googlewave.com in my wave. :)
- MLx
Glad to see more and more people getting in. What we're waiting for is proper group support (a few weeks hopefully) then let the games begin! :-D
- Kol Tregaskes
