yeah, probably not as fast, but to be anywhere near as fast and not have to worry about concurrency issues as much is pretty cool. it's possible that persistent data structures + stm is to locking what garbage collection is to manual memory management: not as efficient in all cases but worth being rid of the complexity. This always surprises me but clearly AT&T just didn't care enough to put mobile nano\femto-cells in place before the event. Maybe the covered the venue itself but the flash mob nature of the evening sessions\parties might just be too hard to prepare for. In any case this is going to become an increasing problem as high bandwidth data use kicks in - the infrastructure to support it needs to be a lot more capable than that needed for standard voice. - Joe Mansfield
