Working in a rich company doesn;t necessarily make one rich..just saying..

Yeah, a secretary at Microsoft gets paid the same as one who works for a little 5 person company! etc etc
- David Lloyd
And lets be honest Loic, no real person can afford the prices you charge. It's a months payment on a mortgage or a tech conference. Let's get real here Loic.
- David Lloyd
Quite right. These people don't appreciate what it actually costs ot produce a quality event. If you want to attend, you pay - otherwise the hall is full of freeloaders - who nobody will want to talk to. I write for The Next Web, and sometimes I am allowed a Press pass, but I know it's an actual COST to the organisers to give me that pass. Stick to your guns Loic!

I deserve a free ticket.... even if I can't afford the trip to Paris :(
- Isabelle Lopez
A microcosm of what is wrong with many corporations. If only more people stood up and said "no" to them, we'd be much better off. Huzzah to you for doing your part.

I don't work at the richest companies; I work at Yahoo! (Um, what is LeWeb?)
- Glen Mistletoe
Mark, I understand you find it expensive, like many, but LeWeb is about 1 million euro to produce, a room in Paris for 1500 is about 200K, add 120K for good wifi with a team to monitor it, lots of French food, video, stage production, etc etc etc someone has to pay the bill and we have been doing it for 5 years at breakeven. If I cut more I am taking a personal loss to do it, which I am not ready to do.
- Loic Le Meur
Loic, there is something to be said for a very highly produced event and I think your charges take that into account. If your aim is to get only those who have "made it" to attend, I think Le Web achieves that. It might unfortunately also have the consequence of leaving out the those who have everything you want at Le Web except the spare 1100-1800 Euros lying around. But I am sure you have thought of that and know what you are doing. It's your event but I don't think there is cause for being amazed.
- Kamath (नमः)
Thats a fair point Loic. My only problem is that at these conferences, the regular joes like me cannot attend so you end up with an elite insulated group of users. It's just a shame costs are so high and that regular people, normal seesmic users etc who work a normal job and pay the bills, cannot afford to pay thousands of dollars to attend. You end up with a kliq of well off people with their mac book pros and business cards attending these shows and the rest of us being priced out. thanks though

I commute 40 miles from west of Des Moines to the east side of the city. It takes me about 35-40 minutes during "rush hour". Gotta love Iowa "traffic". ;)
- Nathaniel Payne
Boston traffic isn't fun, but anyone who says it is 'the worst' hasn't spent any significant time in NYC or LA
- Chris Selland
I really don't count NYC, since there are so many options to driving yourself there. But LA is horrible -- and have you ever had to deal with Dallas?? Lordy. Depending on the time of day, you have to allow yourself HOURS to get to the airport.
- Cheryl Rice
i drive in Dallas/Fort Worth traffic every damned day. :-| <-- failed smile Houston is worse!
- John Neese
come live here in quebec: no traffic! :P
- Isabelle Lopez
but there is a friendfeed for all twitter fans ...
- Klaus Eck
Well, instead of going to the network error, we are now seeing the Whale. I suppose that is progress...of a sort.
- Justin Whitaker
Same here. With this level of up time, they're really giving a boost to your fave here at Friend Feed.
- John F Morton
Why spend more time investing in Twitter as a system at all? I mean when Twitter's working you get it all here. When it's up you can still broadcast with that Twitter megaphone if need be, but why not invest your time developing the actual conversations here instead. Twitter simply is not designed for conversations, FF is. It's not just about the reliability, FF is simply a better platform.
- Thomas Hawk
@Thomas we're still missing XMPP and SMS - that's a huge advantage for Twitter.
- Steve Rubel
I'm sure some of that will come in time Steve, but I'm not convinced in the value of XMPP or SMS. I know some people use those features, I've always had them disabled personally. There is not much coming from FF or Twitter that I think has the level of urgency necessary for XMPP or SMS.
- Thomas Hawk
@Thomas I use it to publish but not receive. But you're right when you look at things like Mail2FF.
- Steve Rubel
@Klaus, Steve is right. XMPP and SMS broadcast still has to be included at FriendFeed. ;-)
- AJ Batac
OMG, Twitter is down, twitter is down!! Watch this video, it's funny as hell http://tinyurl.com/63zpt3. Every time twitter is down i think of that, LMAO!!
- David Cole
Twitter down again huh?....now there's a surprise!
- Emma
Mkes me angry that they didn't fix it up yet....
