Thanks for this - personally I have a password db but I run a forum with a lot of inexperienced people who get their accounts taken over and then say 'But it's too HARD to remember a better password! It's not MY fault they stole my account!' This is something I'll be passing on to them.

It's interesting and at the end of the day it shouldn't matter. I'm conflicted. I think it's something to talk about since our current environment seems to reflect a certain lack of religious expression/freedom. But it's just that fact that makes it noteworthy - if things were as they should be, religion shouldn't be an issue.

John - yes collapsible comments sound great. Any preference on whether the comments are in chronological or reverse chronological order? So far I've got one strong vote for reverse :).

With regard to dropping read posts... I think I could make this work. I don't think it would be too disruptive because the posts get scrambled every 180s (to preserve the "most recently touched" order that FF puts them in). I feel an options page coming on...!

adam: nice job. small UI thing: is there a way to insert a line break after "{ } posted an item on { }"? as is, this line runs right into the title of the linked item, and causes a momentary bump as you're reading along. thanks!

Hi Bill - excellent point. I didn't want to add a full line break there in order to condense everything as much as possible. However, today I added a colon to give it a little more separation. hope that works for you.

I like Evernote too. My problem is that I keep migrating systems - and that seems to defeat a major purpose --unifying all my notes in one place. The most comprehensive and well designed note-sysem (for mac) I've seen and still use is Journler (and its surprisingly still free). I also use 'sidenote' for quick instance access notes. Seems there should be a differentiation between note 'capture' (evernote, sidenote, etc) and note storage/organizing.

I tried Evernote on an iMac (OS X 10.5.4) and had lots of trouble getting screen captures or photo captures to work. Also found that I had to close and reopen the app to get it to display new notes made from screen caps, even when the screen cap actually worked.

the iPhone client needs to cache notes locally - at least some useful subset. there's nothing worse than relying on a notes app to store timely info and then not being able to call it up when you critically need it.

Onenote is a fantastic tool. Someplace between a notepad and a wiki. It has great sync tools, really good sharability and collaberation abilities and good integration. I like evernote mostly as a web clipping tool (it does that better than OneNote) but thats about it.

I have loved this product ever since I heard about it (a few months ago). I can take notes from anywhere on any computer, and the iPhone integration is especially nice. I just used it today for a site survey (had to take pictures using my phone and comment on it).

The reason I like Evernote? I can use it on my mobile phone. We go to the bookstore a lot and it's perfect for adding urls to cool things I find in magazines (but don't want to buy the magazine to remember) and for noting books I might want to buy later, or jotting down ideas for projects I find in books or mags, or doing research (I have been looking at purchasing a camera... used it go to through the latest camera mags and jot down models that got good reviews and what the interesting features were).

There has been a lot of talk lately about the changing face of the blogging landscape. Darren Rowse of ProBlogger asked if blogging has lost its relational focus; Scoble explained why tech blogging has failed you; and even though not everyone agreed with his every statement, there was a renewed commitment in the blogosphere to return to blogging about what excites instead of just writing about "Apple's newest gizmo or the peccadillos of tech personalities." However, we're wondering if people even need to blog anymore...at least in the traditional sense.

Active Desktop FTW. I've put myself together a tabbed page via Yahoo! UI tab view library, with things like Airset, remember the milk, various igoogle gadgets inc password generator, a tab with another set of tabs inside it for webmin for various servers, a tab for phpMyAdmin, one for site company wiki, one for company trac server, one for a tiddlywiki 'scratchpad'. All of this accessible with just two keys (WIN + D) = productivity++.

Can I not just rely on one service to replicate my posts across all these other services using some sorta extensible open api ? Twitter being the biggest whale in this ocean atm would ideally be the primary source of sorts but so lacks in other areas of the social graph ! Looking for a friendfeed in reverse I guess ? Seriously though, it seems like identi.ca is just copying everything twitted does with a huge lag. Anything new could have easily been tacked onto twitter as others have done, instead of going to the trouble of creating a whole new posting service to fracture the community. It may have uptime going for it but that is only good while they are small. Will they scale any better?

Oh really? I guess that means Twitter is no longer allowing retweets to a particular follower. Funny, I haven't read anything about that on Twitter's blog. You sure they don't mean sending the same message individually to more than one follower using the @ sign can be considered spam?

I did this a couple of days ago - haven't been banned yet! As Greg says, there's more going on. I'll move to identi.ca if / when my network moves there. However, I'd expect them to have to take anti-spam measures too if they became popular.

The only mention I can find on Twitter's blog about spammers is related to the jerks who follow thousands of peeps in the hope that some will follow them back, so they can blast them with links to their site. http://blog.twitter.com/ Quite honestly Igor, your pattern of 'I've been banned for no good reason' rants have become more than a litle annoying.

I understand the security benefits of using the grid instead of a password, but it adds like a good 5-6 seconds to my login process, on top of the time it takes to leave the site and load up Vidoop. It breaks my workflow tremendously. There has to be a balance of security and usability: I think passwords are still that balance.
