SIG: DAM and BOSC Joint Session: Lowering barriers to publishing biological data on the web, Brad Chapman, biopython.org
larger scale, reusable presentation components - Jim Procter
We should integrate bioinformatics libraries, db schemas, and web development frameworks (among others). - Allyson Lister
Sample implementation http://biosqlweb.appspot.com/ using the Google App Engine (http://code.google.com/appengi...) - Oliver Hofmann
@Allyson: I wonder if you have a vested interest there ;) - Jim Procter
@Jim - You mean in data integration? Certainly I have a general interest in getting data out there and integrated, but no knowledge of this particular talk or subject before this evening :) - Allyson Lister
question about plugin components view - is some kind of mozilla approach the way to go - Brads opinion is the organic approach (to get something working) needs to happen before plugins get organised. - Jim Procter
experience on using google app engine for bioinformatics apps- both python and java, has lots of additional goodness (Django, etc) - its free and probably underused at the moment - people have to get used to uploading code to appEngine rather than dowloading all components to local server - Jim Procter
@Jim - interesting. I've used Google tools before, but not tried the App Engine... Perhaps I should look into it... - Allyson Lister
@Allyson - gregg Helt created a prototype das2/das1 proxy server on the amazon cloud but I haven't heard anyone else using GAE yet. - Jim Procter
Commenting on my own talk. Totally meta. One choice for running App Engine locally: a MongoDB AppEngine connector: http://www.10gen.com/blog... - Brad Chapman
