Annoyingly, I couldn't get SMTP to work with the S60v2 mail client and GMail any more, so I'll have to resort to posting stuff this way, and using Twitter to share over the next few days, whilst I'm away. Oh well. :(

Haha. The tree? It's all I could find to take a photo of quickly, just to test it.
- Tyson Key
I'm not sure who "owns" or maintains the tree, given that it's in the centre of a housing estate with a car park nearby, for what it's worth. I assume that the county council does, though.

My Etymotic earphones have definitely been one of the best investments I've made in the last 6 months. We have an air handler on the side of the building where I sit that is making an obnoxious amount of noise. I put in the Etymotics and the noise is completely gone. And that's without even listening to music. Awesome.
I've had a pair for a couple years. Love them!
- Anne Bouey
I've has two pairs of er6i. Be careful with them they break at the jack. Got some hf2s now mmm
- Phill Price
Phill's right about them being a little delicate. The cord/jack setup is REALLY flimsy for something so expensive.
- J Wynia
They are $76 on Amazon. Not that expensive.
- Alex Scoble
I get the same kind of noise reduction with my Shure headphones. I forgot the model number, but they're the lowest-end pair -- got them for $99 at Target? Probably could've gotten them for less online.
- Cheryl Jones
Alex, they're not expensive for good headphones, but when the $4 headphones have a more durable cord, things aren't right. I use headphones when mowing the lawn, climbing a ladder painting the house, etc. and shy away from using the etymotics and their kin except when sitting still for fear of wrecking the cord.
- J Wynia
Cool, J. They might have updated the cord on it because it doesn't seem particularly dainty yet.

I'm really wishing right now that we didn't have a small pond in our back yard. Last fall the water pump for it broke and we really don't know (and don't want to learn at this point) how to best care for the pond. Either way, it's a significant expense to get the water pump repaired/replaced or to have someone rip the pond out.
Lot of stones that need to be taken out and hauled away. Plus the hole would have to be filled with a significant amount of dirt. As it is right now, the water is dirty, the fish have all died, the one aquatic plant living in it is almost dead and significant amounts of algae are forming. Big headache. Ironically it's one of the things that we liked about the house when we were looking to buy.
- Alex Scoble
There are anti-algae products that you can buy at places like Petsmart or even Walmart's pet section. A tablespoon or so of the stuff every few days for a week or so and the algae will all die. If you put new living fish into the pond you have to make sure not to OD on the stuff though. Too much will kill them.
- masetime
Apparently the fish are back. I guess they lay eggs or something before the cold sets in.
- Alex Scoble
I'm happy to report that we came through the pond fad with our backyard intact and fish free. :)

our fountain/pond is sans fish. Tired of providing a free sushi buffet for the raccoons. In the middle of Los Angeles no less.
- Jerry Schuman
My pond goes to pot every winter with algae--the gold fish don't seem to mind and tend to die more when it is clean than dirty. I hand pull the string algae out that I can reach and then just start treating it with the ant-algae stuff and the dust that helps break down the muck. Takes about 2-3 weeks to clear up. I don't know how big yours is, but I just just a pump that you plug in and drop into the pond and then just change/clean the filter when needed.
- Kelly W.
The problem with my pond is that a few months back it started losing a couple of gallons / day while running the pump for the little waterfall. I can't seem to find where the water's being lost. So I had to just turn the thing off. Anybody know how to find this sort of leak?
- masetime
We rented a pump from Home Depot to drain it and clean out the muck. The poor fishies will have to die, I suppose. We'll figure out what to do with the pond long term after draining it and cleaning it out, but I think we are leaning towards eventually just having it removed. Then we can use the resulting space for an herb/tomato garden.

"'My first impressions? Of peace, of beauty abounding, of an old-world graciousness and elegance of line. And there was something more too: a deep-dwelling spiritual presence that seemed to emanate from the earth itself..." That's the narrator's description of Taliesin, Frank Lloyd Wright's famed home, in the latest novel by T.C. Boyle. The words also capture how Mr. Boyle felt when he first glimpsed his house: a sprawling "summer cottage" here, designed by Mr. Wright."

"It was his home that inspired Mr. Boyle, author of "The Road to Wellville" and "Drop City," to pen "The Women," which chronicles the architect's notoriously tumultuous personal life. "I was constantly aware of the architect's ghost lingering in the design of this house, in which I am working," says Mr. Boyle. The book's release coincides with the completion of a meticulous renovation...

"Like Mr. Wright, who designed lighting fixtures, furniture, and even clothing to be used in his houses, Mr. Boyle likes to be in control of his art. A self-described "nutball perfectionist," he says his writing is rarely edited. He also dislikes change, constantly moving furniture back to its original position when his wife Karen tries to rearrange. "I have more staying power than she does." he says. "

"The house also reflects Mr. Boyle's desire to separate the private and public parts of his life. Visitors see three rooms: the family room in the middle with a giant roman-fired brick hearth (Mr. Boyle's 20 books on the mantle); a TV or reading room -- depending on whether there's a game Mr. Boyle wants to watch -- to the right, and at the far end a dining room. All the furniture was...

Pretty cool. Still waiting, tho, at the moment. Is this the same one that's been around for a while? Years (and years) ago, there was a site that performed a similar culling and collaging, but it was totally random, if I recall.

Remember the Hindenburg. I don't think there'd be time for parachutes like the Titannic had time for minimal lifeboat coverage. It looks like something unreal out of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow....ahhhhh, no thanks. I'll pass. :)

Got my fix of spice tonight. Sweet potato chips with salsa, conch fritters and Jamaican meat pie. For dessert, chocolate mouse in a white chocolate shell. I'm beginning to think this should be considered a guilty pleasure.

Rocket leaves, red pepper, sugar snap peas, cucumber and some pan fried shrimp, sprinkled with sesame seeds and a homemade dressing of rice vinegar, mirin, sesame oil and soy sauce. Ahh what a lunch =)

Aah, looks like it's just another name for posting content into your feed, with a slightly cumbersome UI compared to the "standard" method, unless I'm just not using it properly.
- Tyson Key
Tyson, when you send a DM you'll have options to type someone's name in the 'To' field. You also have the option (poorly so) to send the DM to 'My Feed' as well. Click the X next to 'My Feed' to not send the post public.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
sure can, does it say 'hello anybody there?'
- Tatty Gibson
You have to type a name of someone you follow.

Ooops the Klingon hide feature did not work and thus the ship was zapped by USS Enterprise - BAM!

Thanks, those that DM'd me. It does indeed appear to work as advertised.

I wonder what the fate of SocialDM(?) will be, now that FriendFeed are highly likely to roll Direct Messaging out, when they roll the new site out fully.
