My Etymotic earphones have definitely been one of the best investments I've made in the last 6 months. We have an air handler on the side of the building where I sit that is making an obnoxious amount of noise. I put in the Etymotics and the noise is completely gone. And that's without even listening to music. Awesome.

I've has two pairs of er6i. Be careful with them they break at the jack. Got some hf2s now mmm

Phill's right about them being a little delicate. The cord/jack setup is REALLY flimsy for something so expensive.

I get the same kind of noise reduction with my Shure headphones. I forgot the model number, but they're the lowest-end pair -- got them for $99 at Target? Probably could've gotten them for less online.

Alex, they're not expensive for good headphones, but when the $4 headphones have a more durable cord, things aren't right. I use headphones when mowing the lawn, climbing a ladder painting the house, etc. and shy away from using the etymotics and their kin except when sitting still for fear of wrecking the cord.
