Colin, you can also use the URL whitelist/blacklist in the Advanced preferences to always allow your Basecamp SSB to browse to all URLs in your login flow (I'm guessing you're using OpenID). For full details, see: http://groups.google.com/group...

Thanks for the tip. Just ran into this myself, and Google turned up this result.
- Travis Swicegood
Mac-only Ruby script by Thomas Fuchs that leverages Mac OS X’s sub-pixel anti-aliasing to create bitmap headline graphics for the web from the command line. Here’s a case where Photoshop — which still can’t produce sub-pixel anti-aliased text — has been beaten by 114 lines of open source Ruby code.

Imagine the amazing apps we would see if developers on the largest phone app platform actually knew they could launch the apps they built. Articles I've read talk about person-months of dev time being at risk from a rejection. Truly amazing apps would have much more dev time than that at risk.
- Daniel Dulitz
Why should they care while they're the market leader? Form over function has served them well so far.
- Piaw Na
Even market leaders want to make more money, no? Having an iPhone would be a lot more valuable if there were better apps. They know this, so they tout existing apps, but they don't carry the argument to its conclusion.
- Daniel Dulitz
That's not true. They resisted apps right from the start. Steve Jobs probably feels that the iPhone would be better if people couldn't personalize or modify it in any way. Remember, he didn't even like the fact that Woz stuck in a bus on the Apple II. The iMac was designed to be uncustomizeable as much as possible. Jobs truly understands the phrase: "Freedom of choice is what you want, but freedom from choice is what you need."
- Piaw Na
i may not like 's app approval process any more than u do, but i have to disagree. is totally dominating developer mindshare -- evidence is the 65,000 apps in the Store. They're crushing everyone else (Palm, Android, Windows, etc) despite having a 'strange' language/development env. If has a problem, it's *not* lack of developer interest or lack of cool apps from tons of devs.
- iTod Pouch
iTod: I find it amusing that you chose to use the Apple symbol, because being in the Unicode private use area, it is the Windows logo in some fonts. That said, I agree with the premise. The 65,000 little apps are mostly useless, as is the app store that was clearly not designed for it.
- Gabe
appears as a three lines shooting out from the left for me, making that comment really hard to read. Is there some special Apple approved font I have to install?
- Andy Bakun
Andy: that character is U+F8FF. Since it's the private use area, each font designer can choose to put whatever they want there. In particular, it's a dumping ground for wingdings (you're seeing Webdings), Klingon, Elvish, and every other character set that Unicode won't define, so there's no one right character to display.
- Gabe
but...wasn't it like ages ago? Or was that a housewarming party....? HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND YOU LOSE THE GAME! (consider it a belated birthday gift from me - I lost too. And so did AKIVA)
- WorldofHiglet
Happy Birthday Sparky!! I hope you had a blast! (I fully expect some photos posted soon too so all of us unfortunate ones can see what we missed)
- Grant Gochnauer
Hi, i was trying to set up Google Docs with Browsa-Browsa to have the list of documents as a sidebar, but i can't get the iPhone version in the plugin pane, just the plain, ugly mobile version. Is there a way to make it work?
Then come today - there will be Carcassonne^n
- Sparky Crocker
looks like u encountered a wormwhole (or some other space-time disuturbance) in the far reaches of the north western mountains there
- iTod Pouch
Those are cities. We named them McMegaCity and LongMcFuckerton.
- Sparky Crocker
Love Carcassonne.... ever played the New World/Mayflower edition? I play that with my Pap-in-law when he's down and it's cutthroat! Like Carcassone but with a pursuit mechanic in the form of 2 surveyors that force you to build away from them or they nullify your-in progress assets as they leapfrog across the board everytime someone scores something... it aint for everyone but we love it.
- Graham Sergeant
Everyone has questions about language. Some are from everyday experience: Why do immigrants struggle with a new language, only to have their fluent children ridicule their grammatical errors? Why can't computers converse with us? Why is the hockey team in Toronto called the Maple Leafs, not the Maple Leaves? Some are from popular science: Have scientists really reconstructed the first language spoken on earth? Are there genes for grammar? Can chimpanzees learn sign language? And some are from our deepest ponderings about the human condition: Does our language control our thoughts? How could language have evolved? Is language deteriorating?
- iTod Pouch
The beginnings of my office supply fetish, I'm sure. Pens, pencils, folders for each class, narrow rule paper. Those were the easy days and we never knew it.
- CAJ, somewhere else
yes, I had several, and love how I kept everything in order!
- magali
I refused to get a Trapper Keeper because *everyone* had one. Instead I got the off-brand ones and would get a sticker and write "BINDER" on the spine. Yes. 5th grade me was HILARIOUS.
- Anika
Didn't have a trapper keeper. Also had a knock-off. Didn't really see what the damned diff was though..LOL
- Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
Anika, OMG, you're such a creative rebel! OMG OMG OMG SOOOOOOOO COOL.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Those were awesome. I probably owned like 10 while growing up.
- Brett Kelly
from iPhone
One year, I found some MEGA TRAPPER KEEPER that was also some off-brand but it was twice as large, twice as nerdy, and I instantly became twice the virgin. School ruled. [crying]
- Akiva Moskovitz
I never had a Trapper Keeper. I was very picky about the way rings in notebooks looked and didn't like the Trapper Keeper rings. I always chose a plain white binder with the clear front that I could slip a sheet of paper into. I then bought several 8.5"x11" sheets of printed paper (like scrapbook paper) to slip in the front as decoration.
- Rochelle
I had one once, but it only lasted about 2 months. I was rough on a binder. *edited* Still am.
- Ha3rvey (Free hugs!)
I remember the first Vietnamese Nerd who showed up with a D-ring binder. It was like someone discovering fire and showing it off.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I've always liked these. Even today I have a bad habit of buying leather portfolios with way too many pockets.
- Rob H.
I would get one and never use it. I'd put paper in the folders label them for each class and proceed to not use it the rest of the school year. Total waste of money but I had to have it.
- Got Love For DB™?
Can't you just feel the vinyl separating from those brads in the spine? And smell it? And hear the velcro rip? Man that brings back memories....
- Her Lindsay-ness
@Lindsay: The sound of velcro separating makes me feel uneasy.
- Brandon
Really? What started that phobia for you? I like that sound. :)
- Her Lindsay-ness
The all black ones would get sold out first. Brandon - I am TOTALLY allergic to the sound of velcro, too!!
- Mona Nomura
I never had one. I've never been the most organized person. Maybe its because I never had one? *ponders*
- Derrick
I wanted one of those so bad. I don't think I ever did get one.
- Trish Haley
@Lindsay: I don't know when it started to happen, but now I don't feel alone bc Mona feels the same.
- Brandon
I had some of these too. I still liked the Pee Chee's a little more? Good memories!
- Michael Fidler
I get this uneasy feeling at the pit of my stomach and a not so good tingling up and down my vertebra which finishes with the shakes. I think i am really really allergic.
- Mona Nomura
My friend gets that way when she hears markers on white boards or paper.
- Yolanda
I think mine was purple. LOL! Loved it!
- Gabrielle V
Thats exactly how it makes me feel, Mona.
- Brandon
I heart you for this, Derrick. New Trapper Keepers every year were the highlight of back-to-school prep. /nerd
- Kisha, Well Conditioned
from BuddyFeed
YES!!! This brings back memories. I remember getting a new one every year. I was the anal organized type so I absolutely loved these. It made each new school year extra special :)
- Grant Gochnauer
My red Trapper Keeper had punk band logos all over it. I was such a little Sk8r Grrl back then. lol
- Leslie Poston
I would doodle them on the Trapper Keeper and on the white areas and soles of my Chucks and Vans... no wonder I can't do math to this day...
- Leslie Poston
That time in my life was also my first Sharpie experience. I never did decide whether I preferred the permanence of the Sharpie of the heady smell of the thick black Magic Marker (also, too many comments in a row, sorry!)
- Leslie Poston
We always had the "just as good" kind (to quote my father) with names like "Keeper Trapper" and "Trooper Keeper."
- Noah Belson
I liked the thought of them but they were way too pricey for our budget. Plus I hated how everyone else's looked like crap after the first few weeks: the white edging would tear away from the plastic at the corners and hurt like a mofo if it slid underneath your fingernails.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
@Tina - YES! That was part of the Trapper Keeper experience!
- Her Lindsay-ness
Each of us kids got one Trapper Keeper at the beginning of the year. If we took care of it, then great. If it got messed up, then we had to wait until the next school year for a new one.
- Jason Huebel
"I don't wanna wait, for my Trapper Keeper to be ovah!" lol I was one of those kids with the dolphin or tiger folders, the ones with stars and planets in the background, inside the bright colored Lisa Frank imitation binders. The ones that I had at home though were self decorated. @hitchhiker, my school had the duct tape trend too, but it wasn't many kids doing it.
- Heather
My mommie and daddie never bought me a trapper keeper... *sniffles*
- Joel Robert Perez
I never wanted one because I didn't want to lug it around to every class like everyone else did. I preferred just taking one folder to each class. I didn't need something extra to put my folders in.
- Katy S
After an initial "WFT is a Trapper Keeper?" I checked. I'd say we were po', but it's more that it didn't exist when I was going to school... Suddenly feeling very old.
- Walt Crawford
Thunderous psychedelic trance music isn't speeding the backup quite like I had hoped it would. GO BITS, GO! MARCH TO THE 140BMP, MARCH!
- Sparky Crocker
Build 7600.16385? x64? -- Let me know if you want (no keys available yet but you can re-arm for 120 days)
- Grant Gochnauer
have u tried converging the tachyon pulse emitter to bypass the trionic initiater loop coil?
- iTod Pouch
Todd - the tachyon pulse wouldn't help because the storage subsystem I'm using is for the back Unix based and hardened against all forms of rolling trionic radiation.
- Sparky Crocker
So you probably have the final then :)... I am waiting for my purchase to be delivered so I'm doing the re-arm trick for 120 days until then.
- Grant Gochnauer
Sparky, out of curiosity, did they give everyone final copies then or did you just have a way to buy/get it internally faster?
- Grant Gochnauer
I won't comment other than to say we have a way of performing the install internally.
- Sparky Crocker
I've been debating doing so. Need to go get a new external drive to back up to.
- Bill Kinney
Are you also using Office 2010 Technical Beta? It's pretty nice. I have a few issues with Outlook/Exchange synchronization but other than that it's been working well.
- Grant Gochnauer
I also won't comment on that ;) I like my job!
- Sparky Crocker
:P Yeah, didn't mean to put ya in an awkward position -- sometime I don't know what you can and can't talk about :D... I'm in the tech beta but being an employee of MS, probably limits your ability to comment.
- Grant Gochnauer
I wanted to use the Google Redesigned CSS for my gCal Fluid SSB but know absolutely nothing about how to do userscripts. I can't seem to find any "super beginner" tutorials or a simple how to anywhere on the web for this.
Dan, check out this screencast. it should be enough to get u going. U should just add a Userstyle in the Preferences window. http://fluidapp.com/blog...
- iTod Pouch
Doesn't work: Not for GMail or GReader, at any rate.
