had this conversation in the car today with my 8yr old daughter ... Lily Allen was being interviewed and they played her latest and I said, I don't get this woman, with her mock cockney accent and her fey child voice and her crap lyrics ... why would you want to listen to any of her songs more than once ... and my 8 yr old daughter totally agreed. We settled on Scout Niblett, Meg Baird, Alela Diane as 1,000,000 times better for contemporary singers

I called duct tape DUCK tape for the longest time. No one corrected me until a few months ago. Mortifying.

It's actually a very common mistake. I've stopped trying to correct people on it. You'd be surprised how many people give you push-back on it.

I think this actually speaks to a larger socialogical issue that exists in current Western societies wherein the attractive looking people are allowed mistakes such as this because it's 'cute.'

Won't even ask for a thread concerning incorrect music lyrics but....husband(bass player) thought the first line of Born to be Wild was, "itch'n for a runnin' and so sang this line every time they played the song. He was in his mid 40's before corrected version known "Get your motor running" :)

if you have ever tried to secure a duck to something, you know that the only thing that will work is duck tape. i've tried soldering, welding, scotch tape, glue, bubble gum, everything short of rivets. duck tape is the best for such purposes.

Mona: that works well on Gorillas and other primates, but not too well on ducks. the natural water-shedding capabilities on most waterfowl prevents the gorilla glue from adhering as tightly as one would expect.

Playing with Friendfeed today. It has lots of value in lots of ways. Very productive. But I don't have the sense of community there.

It takes a little while for people to notice you are here. Give it a week and BELIEVE ME you'll be addicted. Make sure you comment on other people's posts, and make sure you reply to people's comments on your posts. The community will find you.

i like that different people form micro-communities around different items, very transient but still connected. like running into people you know at different stores or venues in a small town. a new, more complex, subtle manifestation of community here.

Morgan, I define an online community as a place where people can find other who share similar interests while eliminating geographic barriers. If we attend a part and have a nice chat, we have had a nice chat at a good party, but we have not necessarily formed a community.

Robert, I think I finally understand what you were talking about during the Elite Tech Podcast. You weren't talking about the speed of retrieving results, you were talking about the speed at which FriendFeed indexes content, which is a LOT faster than, say, Google. Scrumptdillyicious!

Interesting limitation, though. It hasn't indexed the fake word that I put in the previous comment because I added it in an Edit after the fact; it wasn't in the original comment. EDIT to THIS comment - nope, I was wrong - it did index Scrumptdillyicious, it just took about 1 - 2 minutes to do so.

There were periods where FriendFeed's search engine was delayed a few hours (or more). I'd try searching for recent posts with "who:everyone" and get absolutely nothing, not even the entry I just saw.
