She's a f*ing idiot. A similar thing happened to a friend of mine at an ad agency, who accidentally texted "my boss is a fucking cunt" ... to her boss. She didn't get fired or reprimanded, but she freaked out about it.

It floors me how much people openly vent about their jobs on public feeds like FriendFeed. Even if your boss isn't a direct contact, how are people so sure that a boss or co-worker won't stumble across it?

If I have complaints about work, I try to mask them as much as possible or make them more about me personally than the job itself. At the same time, I really try to stay mum about any job I have..

+1 Anika. I generally refrain from talking bad about my employer/coworkers ANYWHERE online. Even on anonymous accounts. You just never know who might freak out and file an unmasking court order. It's happened before.

Well that was a bit dumb. The thing about social media is it's just so much a part of our lives. We are encouraged to pour our views and feelings into it but we have to remember who is going to be reading it. In the end we have to censor ourselves so as a result our lifestream is a watered down stream. There are no directors cuts.

I think there is a serious point here: Your on-line social network pals will be supportive of you regardless of whether you are right or wrong. That's what friends are for, kind of. All the boss does is let in a bit of reality.

Don't Blame you at all for being sick of it, or snapping on someone for it. It's all too common for people to do this though. One way that I've seen some people deal with it: every so often solicit things to retweet, and make it clear then to please not ask you to do this - you do it when you're feeling like it. Then hopefully only people who have some kind of news that urgently needs to be spread (i.e. twitter worm, FB worm, etc) call on you other times.

FriendFeed does behave differently. The listing is dynamic and whatever has the most activity (liked and/or comments) will push other stuff down. Took a bit for me to adjust, especially since FriendFeed doesn't limit posts to only folks you follow. I hear you can change that, but I like the inclusivity I feel when I see interesting bits from a "friend of a friend."

Even if one doesn't want to be like this Mike, your idea of participation premium bringing more people/perspective into your life can be an enriching learning experience for anyone. Just started Friendfeed and it does make that participation easier for this ordinary Jane. It's almost time to share it with all my friends and family but the selling point for them is ease of participation not wanting to be followed by scads of peeps so much.

Great post. Arrington tends to use FF as a broadcast medium where you use it as a two-way conversation medium. Engaging in a conversation is more appealing than just reading what someone is doing online.

It's not just, "Here's my cool new camera." or "Here I am at Davos." etc. It's actual, honest-to-goodness two-way communication. I think that makes the difference.

I just don't get what you are accomplishing with this and by claiming you are defending Shel. Most people don't like Shel's obsessive hatred of Loren's puppet and the videos. He goes around and interviews web personalities and makes it a show rather than a boring interview, it's very unique. Also, I don't know were Loren's satire has turned to abuse and I've seen every puppet video he's done. I think certain people are using the Loren/Shel feud as a platform for old, long standing feuds. I think this has little to do with protecting Shel. It's just the same old tired pissing match between the usual suspects. I'm tuning out.

You will notice that the last is less fun and more disgusting with focus being on up-setting sponsors. This is not acceptable.
