New Google is the old Microsoft - http://www.techflash.com/The_new...
How many people agree with Mr. Ward? - Brad
Well This article makes tons of sense. Kind of ironic how the tech world is. Google wants to be MSFT. MSFT wants to be Google. Yet they both fail at it because through all this they create internal competition and forget who & what they really are... - Randy Shapiro
Some people just have to have a bogeyman to point at because reality is complex and unpredictable. - Garmon Estes
I don't necessarily agree but I get what he's saying. I don't think it's a bad thing that Google does its thing well enough to be the giant that it already is right now. - Dean Michael Berris
Jonathon
Sales of bottled water have fallen for the first time in at least five years, assailed by wrathful environmentalists and budget-conscious consumers, who have discovered that tap water is practically free. - http://www.reddit.com/r...
... and that bottled water isn't always the "purest" water you can buy. What a rip-off. It's good as an emergency supply of drinkable water, but virtually useless beyond that. - Matt Mastracci
Matt, tap water has to meet higher standards than bottled water. Tap water and a good filter is all you need. - David Eckard
It turns out some of the bottled water companies were getting their water from a tap. - Garmon Estes
David, absolutely. Calgary has great water, but we've got a half-decent filter on top of that. The stuff that comes out is absolutely awesome (and BPA free, to boot). - Matt Mastracci

it's really hard to find new, good podcasts. Just went through 2 pages of search results here at FriendFeed and didn't find anything I wanted to listen to more than Stack Overflow and twit. Those i already knew about. :( What's your iTunes podcast window look like? hint hint, suggestions?
iTunes podcasts.jpg
Geeks and God for Drupal CMS and general technology implementation - Peter Kelley
I don't see the ReadBurner podcast on there. FAIL. :-) - Louis Gray
Have you tried Mur Lafferty or Scott Sigler? - ha3rvey (Ho)^3
try out one of the shows at http://randomchatter.com - they have movie, tech, and other topic-centric podcasts - nice guys - Nathan Chase
Buzz Out Loud isn't too bad. - Jared B. Luther
I enjoy BOL too. Been a fan since the beginning. However, if you're looking for something different, try On Digital Media http://odmcast.com (shameless plug ;-) - Steven Hatch
john cleese, stephen fry, kevin smith, Andrew Denton. Get to it!! - thomasrdotorg from twhirl
awesome, thanks for all the suggestions! - Marshall Kirkpatrick
NOVA Science Now, Scientific American, The Naked Scientists, the Pragmatic Podcasts, Hanselminutes, SE-Radio (though I skip most of them), Core Intuition, Late Night Cocoa, Mac Developer Network, Grammar Girl - DGentry
NPR's All Songs Considered, NPR's Science Friday, Magnum in Motion - Sam Grover
No Agenda. - MVB (Grinch of FF)
I like the BBC news podcasts.... - Mitch
I love BOL (Buzz Out Loud)...also Loaded, Twit, The Social Geeks (of course), Diggnation, Grammar Girl, The Answer Bitch, LostCasts (when LOST returns that is), ReadBurner, CNET TV, CNET Mailbag (Molly Wood is damn funny) and the occasional Tekzilla and Security Now. - Sarah Perez
BOL is great, CNET has some damn good podcasts. - Aram Zucker-Scharff from twhirl
FFundercats??? Ho??? - Fa La La La Lindsay
Good call Lindsay, FFundercats, HO! Go grab it. - Aram Zucker-Scharff
My one must-have podcast is Danny Sullivan's SearchCast: http://dailysearchcast.com/ - Matt Cutts
I listen to the Gillmor Gang (I'll be on tomorrow at 1 p.m. from China, by the way) and TWiT. Otherwise I "snack" on other audio shows here and there. - Robert Scoble
NY Times Front Page, Wall Street Journal Tech News Briefing (both are good first thing in the morning), NewsGang Live / Gillmor Gang. Leo Laporte has a few good ones like TWiT, MacBreak Weekly, Windows Weekly, Security Now. - Rolf Schewe
I feel bad for not listening to TWiT very much while everyone else does. It is in my podcatcher but I almost always listen to it part way and then move on. The podcast is a lot of fun, but it just feels like BOL got the same things already and talked about them days earlier. I have a lot of podcasts (I do love NPR and I've found a number of great book world and fiction podcasts) and I'd rather listen to something new. - Aram Zucker-Scharff from twhirl
Aram: I understand that. I don't get to all of them either. usually I just listen to the ones that get talked about on Twitter or FriendFeed. Speaking of which, http://www.fastcompany.tv is my video podcast. - Robert Scoble
These are all great suggestions -- I just scarfed up a mess of them and added them to iTunes. Thanks! - Mitch Wagner
If you're not already listening to This American Life you're missing the best radio show ever. Fresh Air is good, too. And Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. - Leo Laporte

NPR is all sorts of awesome. I second "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me!" - Amy H.
TED Talks (video) always has great stuff - Virtual Bird's Eye from twhirl
If you like listening to non-work related podcasts (i.e. NOT tech), check out The Moth. Also This American Life. - Aaron Uhrmacher
"WFMU's Best Show On WFMU" is HILARIOUS! I also like Studio 360 and many of the ones mentioned above. - Brad Williamson
In the same vein as WFMU are the podcasts from RESONANCE FM, "the art of listening" - Brad Kligerman
Oh my - where's NPR's "Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me", and NPR's Car Talk, and Leo's "Security Now!" podcast? And if you're not only twisted, but actually sprained, check out Merlin Mann's podcast "You Look Nice Today". - mamapadawan
If you are into Social media, PR and communication, then check out For Immediate Release (FIR). Shel Holtz and Neville Hobson host this bi-weekly podcast and it is without a doubt the best communications podcast out there. - morten saxnaes
NPR's Wait Wait and This American Life make it to my podcast list. I'm learning Danish too, and there is a great podcast called "CopenhagenCast" that is a great learning tool for the language. - Guy Martin
Check out The Bugle and Sex Talk with Jimmy Stewart! - Wes Hoogenboom from iPhone
Skeptics Guide to the Universe is excellent, one of the best podcasts out there. Also, Seminars about Long Term Thinking is often great. - Gersham Meharg
Savage Love (sex and relationships, about 35 minutes, weekly), Memory Palace (quirky history stories, about 5 minutes, published irregularly), 60 Second Psych (short stories about psychology, published irregularly), and I love, love, love Tank Riot (kind of indescribable--runtime 1 hour+, published every two weeks or month or so by three guys in Wisconsin), and also one called Copper Robot by some guy named "Mitch Wagner." - Mitch Wagner
Totally Rad Show is pretty funny. - Siddharth Mitra
Nice idea...................... - Kevin J Hatton
The Moth, The Memory Palace, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, The Dinner Party Download, The Sound of Young America, Obsessives (video by CHOW), Studio 360, TED (audio or video), Third Coast International Audio Festival, Current Vanguard (video), Frontline WORLD (video), World Cafe. - Rekha Murthy

Cool. It's like a gadget-pedia. One question... what stops an overseas hardware maker from messing with the data to dumb down a competitor or remove negative stuff about their own products? - Dave Friedel

Time for load balance tweaking, which is always fun. It's hard to estimate load on a new startup site. I'd just wait a little bit, it'll stabilize. - Dave Friedel
Consider me interested. I thought it was just another Engadget site... Gonna have to give GDGT a try! - Nick Neary
I was sure it wasn't another engadget/gizmodo site I just wasn't sure what it was going to be. Cool idea I'm definitely glad I signed up with my UID early. - kenneth glenn
Next project should be to build an up to the minute Q-score monitor for V. ;) - Dave Friedel
Nooo they were having load issues before I mentioned them. That's why I didn't include a link! - Veronica from iPhone
Wow. If that's true, they should go straight to the high end of the load bell curve in terms of resources before doing any more promotion. Just from finally understanding what the site will do, I can see this will be huge. And I'm not saying that as a fan, but rather having done load balancing / cost justifications. - Dave Friedel
This site is going to be bigger than engadget and gizmodo combined - Mark
I love the concept and the fact it's targeted to a specific market. There are sites where people can have their own say on products but they're too broad and weak on functionality. Then there are sites highly targeted toward tech, but not up to date. It was frustrating to look for a gadget and find out the review was 2 years old, and so on. I'm psyched about GDGT now. - Dave Friedel

China backs down on July 1 mandate for Green Dam - http://www.thetechherald.com/article...
China has pushed back their mandated timeline for filtering software that was to be preinstalled on new computers entering the country for sale. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said on Tuesday that the reasoning for the backtracking, what they call a delay, was because PC manufacturers needed more time. The MIIT did not issue a new deadline or mention one in their press release. - Hacker News

During the entire duration of this video, I kept thinking " Leo, please keep your eyes on the road and do not get impaled by a car."
