#MyDiary 14/03/11 last week has been pretty productive. I have started making notes on the lectures from last semester and started to plan my revision a bit. Also, the fact that we have few lectures and lots of free time helps me to revise and work more. A chilling but productive week..
so here starts the semester two... with a paper cut! enjoyed the #BS1013 tutorial and the #bs1005 lecture...seems interesting!
Paper cuts - occupational hazard of academia. - Dr Alan Cann
over 90% in the #bs1015 exam today! :D and merry Christmas and a happy new year to everyone!
good luck to everyone who is doing #CH1070.. you all will do well so don't stress!
hates #CH1070 organic.! prefer to do the calculations part of it! but organic is such a headache!
so now you jump into my boat? before you were fan or Organic (or Dr. Rawlings! ) haha :P - Jalpan Patel
Organic all the way :) .. Calculations are so confusing!! - Neelam Dave
hahaha... orgaic seemed to make sense upto the first 3/4... then the last couple of lectures are like overload!!!.... the inorganic is confusing me a bit too but its easier to do them step by step... more maths it what i prefer now :) - Novpreet Rainer
Got to agree with Neelam - organic makes much more sense than loads of equations that seem to merge in my head into one big ball of numbers and letters1 :P - Susan Petherbridge
I think it will be hard for too many questions to be asked about the organic side in the multiple choice questions anyway. Hopefully will be ok! - Sam Rowbotham
#CH1070 revision not going good so far!
why not? - Novpreet Rainer
really happy with the #BS1015 essay marks! thought i did really well.. thanks to those who helped! :)
Congrats! - Aneeka Ul-Haq
thankx Neeks.. i hope you did well too! :D - Jalpan Patel
*Fingers crossed* me too! :) - Aneeka Ul-Haq
yup.. luck will be on your side :) - Jalpan Patel
im confused.. is the deadline for the classification assignment tomorrow?
i thought it was 17th December (the last day of the semester) - Neil Nathwani
thats what i thought! but our tutor said its tomorrow! - Jalpan Patel
Its the 17th. FOOL. *evil look* (: - Gracie Okafo
no its 10th :S:S confused now - melis guvensoy
Oh really? Mine is due in for the 17th? Wait the essay thing right? - Gracie Okafo
i dont think there is any essay for #BS1012, its only classification right? - Jalpan Patel
Its like four paragraphs? Yeahhhhhhhh sorry 'the assignment' (: mines due for the 17th - Gracie Okafo
we only had to list common features in each taxa for our organism, in bullet points - Luke Thompson
thats what i thought Luke! - Jalpan Patel
ohhh gosh confused.com - Yewande O
mines the 17th, and thats what it says on blackboard and in module booklet.... but its your tutor that marks it so if they say earlier i guess you have to go with that!! - Alice Round
yeah i think.. ill havve to make it for today! :D thanks - Jalpan Patel
yeah its the classification thing. just listing the features why your organism is in each of the different taxonomic groups with a picture. should only be about a page of A4 inc the pic maybe a little more. (group 11 ) He said it was to be handed in today (6th dec) to the biology office. - Christopher morton
I think it depends on your tutorial group so ull have to ask one of them =) - Khetase Chiwowa
thanks a lot guys for your comments and support... i have handed mine in! so hopefully it will all be good! thanks a lot again... - Jalpan Patel
I'll be giving mine in soon! - Sajjal Abbas
#BS1012 practical and classification = done! time for sorting out the presentation now!
Always keep working :)) - Persefoni Ioannou
wooohooo! 100 comments and passed the #BS1010 module too! :D got over 40%..
finds it quite funny with people posting all about bee's waggle dance and the #BS1012 lecture! but it was a great lecture and had interesting aspects to learn and remember.. bees are actually fascinating!
Yes they are! Never thought i would actually think that!! - Neelam Dave
i actually learnt about the waggle dance last year and my teacher made us do the dance in front of everyone!!.. =D - Krupa Patel
has handed in the #BS1012 practical report!
me too!!!..=D - Krupa Patel
well done! :D - Jalpan Patel
just wondering if we need to know the experiments that prove that DNA is genetic material for #BS1015
and if we do, then what sort of detail is required? - Jalpan Patel
I think it would be enough just to know what was mentioned on lectures about this topic) - Nursultan
A human, ATP-independent, RISC assembly machine fueled by pre-miRNA - http://ukpmc.ac.uk/ukpmc...
This ties in nicely with my #BS1015 presentation about RNA interference where small interference RNA (siRNA) and micro RNA (miRNA) interfere with ribosomes in their specific ways to stop translation and thus protein synthesis. - Jalpan Patel
#FridayReflection Bookmarking - how are you saving online resources so you can find and access them in the future when you need them?
wel i personally use google chrome and bookmark them and organise them in the folders according to the module! I have also now started making a word document of all the online websites and resources I found under specific module titles along with the topic they relate to. This will, hopefully, make my revision easier and I can use the well structured resources to save my time and make my revision more efficient! - Jalpan Patel
And how do you back this information up? - Dr Alan Cann
I normally email myself and keep updating my document in which I have these resources on the memory stick. - Jalpan Patel
the #bs1015 presentation was pretty good.. enjoyed listening to other interesting discoveries...
ahhh this week seems to be great so far! high first class marks in both, #bs1010 and #bs1003. now onto some revision!
is happy to get a high first class in his #BS1003 essay, now waiting for #BS1015 essay, in the mean time, some revision would be good!
#Friday Reflection Group Work - What have you learned from the Google Docs exercise about working as part of a team?
I have learnt a lot from the group work. First thing I learnt is that communication is necessary in group work, without it, everything seems to fall apart and going off the tract. Secondly, the contribution is key. You need to know what you doing and how you doing so you can make sure you get the best out of the team work. Also the google docs itself is a great way of sharing work. You can edit it the way you like and also can just chat to the person at the same time providing they are online. It is really effective way of doing team work.! - Jalpan Patel
glad that the #BS1015 essay is over for now! some sleeping time now!
just wondering if the ionisation of water has any relation with #BS1015 essay and what is its importance? if anyone can help. Much appreciated.
i put that water can act as acid and base and so its used in various metabolic processes - Kanta Purkayastha
yeah but then its just commenting on different properties like commenting on acidic and basic nature of water reather than talking about importance of ionisation of water! Thanks anyways! - Jalpan Patel
hmm i wrote a paragraph of about 150 words for the ionization of water - Persefoni Ioannou
it would be really helpful if you can give some sort of idea of what you included! thanks in advance - Jalpan Patel
300 words and info worth of 3000 words!
yeah i got 300 more words to do and then its all done! - Jalpan Patel
glad to pass the #ch1070 test with good marks!.. hope everyone has done good too..!
does the 10% words lee-way apply for #BS1015 essay too?
Yes, I should think so! - Emmanuelle
I beleive yes... :)) - Persefoni Ioannou
is doing #BS1015 essay! fun times..! i have created a perfect library environment this time and working at the very best of my abilitty! really enjoying it!...
do we need to ask for permission or use copyright free images or table for the essay?
just a quick question!. Do the marks we get in the multiple choices questions on blackboard for #CH1070, count towards the final grade? I think they're not but just confirming!
MC1 that we will do next week is not count towards the final grade, but the MC2 will count. - Jasper Chih Tai Yang
Structural biology: A walk through the genome - http://www.nature.com/nature...
is in the libraryy trying to do his essay! loads of information but nothing makes sense at the moment..! hopefully it will be sorted soon..!
yeah! hate it.. I mean like its just annoying! but I suppose once we start somehow, it will be okay and end up being like the building an organism essay where we didn't have enough words to play with.! - Jalpan Patel
the thing is that i've learnt my lesson from the #BS1003 tutorial essay... writing a lillte bit each day really helps... not only do you feel as you've done something towards it during the day.... you end up having time to re-read the previous paragraph you did the day before instead of doing the whole essay in 2 days and on the third re-reading all of it :) - Novpreet Rainer
