Business Gangsta mami, quit hating!! And btw, I did spend a couple of weeks on Heifa St.

When Joel and I were in Iraq, he spent 11 months on the FOB, did not go outside the wire once. Meanwhile, I did more convoys outside the wire than I can count. Anyway, 2 weeks before he is scheduled to fly back to the US, a captain requested that he go to Haifa Street for a few days during their first election. At the time, Haifa Street was one of the most dangerous places to be. I was an absolute nervous wreck because I knew it was just bad karma to send him there with only 2 weeks left. Fortunately everything went well, though.

In retrospect yes it very neat to witness and be a part of Iraq's 1st election and watching the Iraq people run up to me to show their inked fingers. But at the same time it sucked having 4 polling stations surround you and knowing that we were basically a huge target.

Whoa. Joel, I'm glad you came back safe.
- Admiral Anika
Thanks Anika, like most things in the Military, you don't really enjoy them or appreciate them till after the fact.

well, I was about to make a comment about how badass you looked in uniform when I saw Michelle's first comment. Ouch! So I posted a different comment, which was made in complete sympathy with you.

Thank's ya'll we appreciate it....its like I tell people...a service member never truly appreciates what they are experiences till after the fact. It was hard going through the field exercises, the pt, the deployment, the staff duty and what not, but after the fact you truly miss what went along with all those experiences.

Hope you had a great Veterans Day and Thank You !!!

Glad you both came back okay! (And got together.) My brother was in both Afghanistan & Iraq for a couple tours and I was worried sick about him. (He came back ok, too. Though friends of his didn't...)
