Neither the picture or the link are working for me. - Nicholas Kreidberg
slashdot effect? - Michael Turner
What can I say. Getting sick of people not anticipating success. I mean, you're at TC50, you're (apparently) launching a geek's wet dream, so, yeah, of course you don't need a lot of servers. So Twitter-like for now, I stopped caring. - Vlad Bobleanta
And, anyway, where are the invites? - Vlad Bobleanta
Worked fine for me. They say filling out their survey will expedite your invite. We'll see, I just submitted mine. - Kenton
Watching their TC50 keynote http://bit.ly/CWKGv - Mac64
Tough choice for my future communication service... Google Wave or Threadsy??? - Philippe
Signed up for it and filled the survey which is a nice way of extracting information from people that are eager to try it out. - Usman Bashir
What's the deal in the survey where we promise not to blog about it? - Vezquex: God of FF
Too early to tell what it's like Zee as it's just a request for an invite. Is the promise not to blog a clever marketing ploy I wonder? One thing - it always frustrates me that when I fill out my UK address on most sites it still insists on my filling out a state (or I can't register). We don't have 'states' in the UK so why try and appeal internationally and then limit it to US subscribers - unless we make up an address as I just have! - PaulJohnson
I just put UK when it asks for my state, most forms dont seem to bother checking its really valid as long as you put something in :) - Simon Wicks
Seems like Threadsy sits between FriendFeed & Google Wave. Frankly I'm not willing to invest in another product till after trying Wave with others. - CannonGod
CannonGod: but how long will it be until Wave is accessible by the general public? I thought it was gonna be a while like a year or more. - Bryan Lee
I'm with CannonGod on this one if it sits between FF and Wave - seems better to just invest in Wave - Wang Yip
@Bryan: Google Wave is expected for release by the end of September. Threadsy might have known this and decided to release just before to get some coverage. - CannonGod
@CannonGod: Good to know! - Bryan Lee
I sent in email and survey some hours ago. Still nothing. - Manuel Mas
Just got my invite and started playing with Threadsy. So far I like the AJAX-y inbound box. Can't test the unbound box too much because overall my friends are not into social sites. Bummer! - Philippe
I'm still waiting for my invite. - Manuel Mas
I'm with Manuel... - Shea from iPhone
Got my invite now but will check it out in the morning. - Usman Bashir
And it seems giving them information did help getting the invite faster. - Usman Bashir
I love that it allows you to manage multiple email accounts, including Google apps accounts! - Jon Gosier from iPhone
Still no invite... - Manuel Mas
Is there anyone out there with a better video demonstration of the product? - Manuel Mas
Had my invite but suddenly lost access to the site. When I tried to log in one day after first successfully accessing the site, I got this error message: "couldn't log you in with that information". :( - Philippe
I tried to reset my password and I get this message: "success! we just sent an email to you at". I did not leave my email address out of this message, this is exactly what I get on my screen and one day later I am still awaiting my password reset. I have a bad feeling about this one... :( - Philippe
Trying it out now but cant seem to add facebook or any other services expect gmail & twitter. - Usman Bashir
I'm getting jealous here. - Manuel Mas
Whoa! This comment stream escaped my notice. We're trying to get threadsy invites out as quickly as possible to everyone who requests one. Thanks for your patience! - scott
trying it, wish there was a way to filter the twitter stream - Kim Landwehr
NO DAMN WAY!! FF is the best the greatest ever.. no real alternative - FFTornado
Still no Threadsy invite... - Manuel Mas
Got my invite on Friday night but I haven't tried it yet. The lack of OAuth etc for the various accounts makes me a little worried about putting in my details. For Gmail you just enter your username and password. There's no 'getting permission from Google' stage. It's a shame because I really want to try it... - Martin Bryant
Invites please? :) - Sasha Kovaliov(.com)
Martin Bryant: Thats the exact issue i have with it, i did try it out but giving it login details to so many important accounts is the wrong way forward they should look in to other methods of solving this issue like the OAuth, Facebook Connect & etc. - Usman Bashir
And another day without an invite... - Manuel Mas
It's great for Facebook and Twitter, but it lacks the features of a full email client. This is a good trend in computing, where people can choose apps independent of the protocol. - Vezquex: God of FF

Am I missing something or is Google Friend Connect basically a clone of MyBlogLog?
... with the massive market power of Google behind it. - DGentry
So far, that's pretty much it. I've used the wall widget to put up a glorified guest book, and I have hopes that Google will pull their heads out of their rear and offer me updates to the sites I've joined either in my GProfile or reader. We'll see... - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
To me, FB Connect is really about a social experience connecting to your FB social network and allowing you to comment and bring those conversations within the site and also onto your FB profile. Google Friend Connect just allows others to connect to you and to others on the site, but does not leverage your existing social network. Basically it's like having a chat within your site, so you don't have to implement one. But yes, it does look like MyBlogLog. - Alvin
Yes, it looks like - Bibi
I've been wondering that exact same thing...where's the value to the blogger who implements it? Is it just new and shiny? - Sarah Perez
I wish it were. It has none of MyBlogLog's coolest features -- like any of them. I'm experimenting with it at SmallBusiness.com (thanks Steve, for being the first person to join) and all it is now is: 1. A thing you can join. 2. A guest book commenting thing. MyBlogLog at least has the display of registered members who merely show up. However, what MyBlogLog also has is a Brand that sounds like its something that only bloggers would use. Another thing Friend Connect is supposed to have is OpenSpace gadgets. - Rex Hammock
For now, both FriendConnect and Facebook Connect are just new and shiny. However, in the near future we will probably start seeing new features in these widgets that take advantage of the network. - Rob Diana
I thought the same thing too, which is why I haven't installed either - Sally Church
Do these products negate things like Disqus and Intense Debate? - Kenley Neufeld
Stay tuned .... with the Twitter connection upcoming, it'll be far from a clone. - Charlie Anzman
Kenley: I can't see GFC (or MyBlogLog, for that matter) really directly impacting distributed commenting systems all that much. This is because GFC et al share the same fundamental weakness: the inconvenience of having to individually join each site you wish to participate in. With Disqus/Backtype/etc, however, you have one commenter profile which follows you wherever you go within the community. If a site implements Disqus, bingo, you're already on board. [...] - Derrick Burns
The only thing that's missing, in terms of establishing site-relevant user communities, is to take that existing distributed discussion infrastructure and building a tracking and display front end for it, such that a site admin would be able to display currently-active users, most-active users, etc, and allow the users to interact with one anothers' profile data in the same way that GFC does. - Derrick Burns
Good comments Derrick; thank you. I wonder if distributed commenting systems might move in the direction of allowing users to interact with each other. At least those who create an account with one of those services.Should be interesting to see how this all develops, but Google is clearly the elephant in the room and has been for a while. - Kenley Neufeld
Kenley: Google as the elephant in the room: There's some catchy artwork in there, I just know it. But you're absolutely right. Which leads me to speculate on how long it will be before the big G scoops up Intense Debate or one of its competitors and turns it into an integrated community-in-a-box system. - Derrick Burns
Gregory: *laugh* As long as the music in question is not ABBA. - Derrick Burns
Steve, you're so right! :) - Smeerch
Thank you ! I couldn´t get my head around why those Google widgets were such a big deal. Actually would make my blog even worse because intensedebate requires another login (for the time being). Btw, what´s that open source alternative to FB and GF Connect I think somebody mentioned here ? - Thomas Bøhm
I think so! - Luca Filigheddu from twhirl
It does. I just signed up because it seemed to be going around. I figure I will test it out for a few months and see how it goes. - Stephan Miller from Posty
Not really, MyBlogLog is different in the fact that it has a dedicated website for everything. With Google Connect you build the community with your site. - Mathew™ one of a kind
I joined a number of sites last evening after seeing links posted here. Then I clicked on a few people in the widget on the sites, and found more blogs to link to. So, I would say it can only help blogs to reach more prospective readers, even if one ends up grabbing the RSS feed. - Ian May
FriendConnect also provides full OpenSocial support and API to developers. FriendConnect is a development tool more than it is a set of widgets. - Jesse Stay
That's what I said. And yet people are still using it. Google branding seems to be all it has going for it. I can't find any functionality pros though. - Tamar Weinberg
Eh... MyBlogLog is Yahoo! They might spoil their marketing power on features which aren't implemented yet, but they still have some power. :) - Daniel W. Crompton

"Well, we know Twitter already turned down $100+ million in stock. So, I’m guessing 12 months from now. $250 million (50% cash, 50% stock)." - Robert Scoble
Would this be anthropomorphizing? - Matthew DeVries
I disagree Robert. I think Twitter made a mistake - Facebook Connect is going to make Facebook stock go up, not down. Think about it - essentially every single site that integrates Connect essentially becomes an extension of the Facebook network. Now, imagine Facebook releasing an ad platform on top of all that. - Jesse Stay
Twitter will be integrating with Facebook Connect and Google Connect. - Ed Shahzade /NextInstinct
When Facebook Connect gets powered by PayPal things will get very interesting. All the talk (read: fingerpointing) about how brands use social media will take a whole new tenor. The large retail brand I work for, for example, will stop discussing whether to implement Connect, but what's the cost of failing to do so. - Marko Bon from fftogo
@Robert nice to hear about such valuations at a time like this, I just wish it was us! @Jesse - That's exactly why I have not, and will not, join Facebook. The services which carry ads are the only protection people have from marketers, who will be as intrusive as they can get away with, and Facebook has made it quite clear that they care more about eyeballs and clicks than their users. They don't have their users' best interests in mind. - Mr. Gunn

I've finally sent the Vista sidebar to where it belongs - the recycle bin. However there are a couple of gadgets that I used that I would like to see if I can find desktop apps to replace them with. The are the following (since I have a word limit here)
1- a multi world clock desktop app that looks good and is easy on resources added bonus for one with alarm clock options for each displayed clock - Steven Hodson
2 - a Calendar that lets me keep notes for things that happened on a specific day(s) - Steven Hodson
3 - system resources meter system that is easy to set up and looks good - Steven Hodson
more to come as I think of them :) LOL - Steven Hodson
I hate vista sidebar. I have vista ultimate and had the sidebar off since day one. That being said, I love Vista overall, but then again I have 4mb of ram to play with on my Vaio. - James Campbell
I've tried most of these things in XP/Linux at some point, and after running them for a while ended up getting rid of them, as they were simply resource draining. I use a private wordpress.com blog to keep notes of things I've done (that I don't want to tell the world about), and I use RTM to remind me what I need to do, have that interfaced nicely into Gmail, which I use as my POP3 client. - Ian May

Alaska's own newspaper endorses Obama. Hah! http://www.adn.com/opinion...
Gov. Palin's nomination clearly alters the landscape for Alaskans as we survey this race for the presidency -- but it does not overwhelm all other judgment. The election, after all is said and done, is not about Sarah Palin, and our sober view is that her running mate, Sen. John McCain, is the wrong choice for president at this critical time for our nation. - Robert Scoble
lol, I cant wait to hear what olbermann has to say about this - Kyle Weller
interesting showing some polls are now within the margin of error, including the zogby poll which is now within 6 - Jonathan Jesse
Jonathan: if you talk to pollsters, though, they say the actual results aren't that close. The polls that are closer aren't using cell phone only voters, like me, which tend to break younger and more educated and which are breaking for Obama big time. - Robert Scoble
A great read. Amazing how much interest there was in Europe while i was there about our election. Everyone I talked to over the past two weeks was scared of McCain/Palin and rooting for Obama/Biden. Fascinating to see how citizens of other countries took such an interest in a foreign election. US citizens are so far removed from such affairs abroad. It was good to see the interest and concern. - Jim Goldstein
No one calls me which is good anyway. If they did, I might not tell them what I really felt, as pollsters and telemarketeers calling get me pissed anyway. - Ian May
I was in Europe in April/May for a month and everyone was interested. Many doubted that Americans would ever elect a Black President. I told them to "just watch us - it will happen this time!" - Bora Zivkovic

Not surprising at all - since the choice is between a candidate and a caricature. - Bora Zivkovic
Actually the choice is a marketing campaign, which 0bama has been good at, but still has no substance. - Spencer
So, you've gone and read the articles on his website with the specifics and still believe that? It's okay to say no substance if you've read and feel that way, but if not, it's pretty silly. - Karoli
Anybody can write marketing materials, look at 0bama's past, look at his voting record, that is more telling than what some marketing strategist posted on a website. - Spencer
Voting record, and record of bills introduced and/or passed, which for a senator with 2 years, is quite impressive. If nothing else, the guy is a workaholic. I'd say the conduct of his campaign also speaks to management/governing style. - Karoli
4 years. I was living in Chicago in 2004 when Obama rose through a crowded Dem primary field to absolutely dominate the election. Even before Ryan's scandal, he was up by 35 points. She is a great spokeswoman (aside the winks), but IMHO she doesn't seem too reliable or passionate enough to lead. - Majento

She looks good for the camera and her knack for avoiding questions and going off on tangents is quite mesmerizing. When the expectation is PalFail, it wasn't hard for her to *wink pew pew* her way to stay relative. She must be a great dancer with the way she "answers" questions. - Dana D
The Couric interview failures actually made her poor performance in the debate look good. I've seen it skewing a lot of the impressions on how well she did. Even the "professional" reviewers are giving her high marks. But then when you read their comments, they're all basically saying the she did good for her, ignoring the fact that a high school debate team member could have done better. - xero
As long as those 3rd graders get that extra credit, that is really all the matters to me. - orionstarr
She did fine, but she had to really knock it out of the park and Biden had to fumble badly (love mixed metaphors) for it to have much effect. She didn't do that well, and Biden performed splendidly, so at best it's a wash. - Steve Lowe
