"So, if you are not employed by the financial industry (94 percent of you are not), don’t worry. The current unemployment rate of 6.1 percent is not alarming, and we should reconsider whether it is worth it to spend $700 billion to bring it down to 5.9 percent." - the conclusion to this relatively upbeat article about the financial crisis - beginning and middle strong and convincing, the last part less so. But a good and refreshingly counter-trend read in present circumstances - Jan Dawson via Bookmarklet

Interesting idea - that solving the deficiencies of email is a big opportunity at the moment. For me the biggest problem with this as with so much else is that regardless of what software you implement (and Scoble mentions several vendors) it won't make a blind bit of difference unless people change the way they do things. And that's really hard to do. This is a change management problem more than a software problem. - Jan Dawson

Pretty interesting reading and some good thoughts here, though the idea of the government deliberately trying to frighten people in the middle of what could be a massive run on banks is not one I like a huge amount... If things are bad now with mostly financial experts cutting and running imagine if the whole US population started doing it... - Jan Dawson via Bookmarklet

One of several things I've read / watched recently that ties political proclivities into other characteristics - a TED.com talk on a similar subject was also very interesting - Jan Dawson via Bookmarklet

This political news analysis site is attractive and ultimately interesting but not the most intuitive to surf around. There's good information there but it's not always obvious how you get to it... - Jan Dawson via Bookmarklet

Found this really interesting - and surprising - a map of the political books bought by Amazon customers since the beginning of the year by state and by red/blue. Rather unexpected results, especially for the last 60 days - Jan Dawson via Bookmarklet

sounds like fun - will be trying this when it shows up in the App Store on my phone - this is the second app today that has supposedly launched but doesn't yet show up in the App Store on my phone - how often does that update, I wonder? - Jan Dawson
