This small application is meant for syncing your contacts in the Google Contacts address book with their Gravatars, in case they didn't choose a photo by themselves. This application was written in C# using .NET 2.0. In order to use the Google Contacts API, the Google Contacts API .NET library was used. This is only the first release and few hours work only. Therefore, expect a bit of ugly code and exceptions while running into corners :-) - Scott Jarkoff

Japan's current account surplus in August shrank 52.5 percent from a year earlier as the country's spending on oil imports soared, the Finance Ministry said Wednesday. The surplus in the current account, the broadest measure of Japan's trade with the rest of the world, came at 988.8 billion yen ($9.7 billion), marking the sixth consecutive year-on-year fall. The current account measures trade in goods, services, tourism and investment. It is calculated by determining the difference between Japan's income from foreign sources against payments on foreign obligations and excludes net capital investment. - Scott Jarkoff

An extremely high concentration of insecticide has been detected in frozen green beans imported from China, and one woman who ate some of the beans bought from a local supermarket became ill, a municipal government in Tokyo said Wednesday. The public health office in Hachioji city said it has detected in the beans 6,900 parts per million of organophosphate pesticide dichlorvos, or 34,500 times the maximum level allowed by the Japanese government for imports. - Scott Jarkoff

The wife of Kazuyoshi Miura, who committed suicide in a Los Angeles jail prior to his arraignment for conspiracy to commit murder, has refused to take custody of his remains until after the investigation has been concluded, Miura's lawyer Junichiro Hironaka announced on Monday. Hironaka also told a press conference that he was shocked by Miura's suicide. "It's an overwhelming tragedy, but at the same time it's not clear exactly why they can say he committed suicide." - Scott Jarkoff

Japanese health officials warned residents on Wednesday not to eat a variety of frozen green beans imported from China that are contaminated with an extremely high concentration of pesticides. "Don't eat it. Report if you have it and bring it in," says a warning from the Japanese Ministry of Health. Thirty-thousand packages of the Ingen-brand green beans had been sold in Japan before the pesticide contamination was discovered. - Scott Jarkoff

Davis is the cause, he is the cure, he is the Raiders’ dilemma and, ultimately, must be the franchise’s solution. The problem is that owners never see themselves as the problem. Never. Kiffin wasn’t the answer, but after 40 years, the Raiders need a new vision and a new voice. And Davis’s son, Mark, is waiting in the wings. Perhaps Davis will initiate yet another innovation and become the first owner in the history of sports to remove himself. - Scott Jarkoff

A Japanese businessman accused of conspiring to have his wife murdered 27 years ago in Los Angeles committed suicide less than 24 hours after he set foot in the continental United States to answer to the charges. Kazuyoshi Miura, 61, hanged himself with a piece of his shirt Friday night, police said. His attorney, Mark Geragos, was notified early Saturday by prosecutors about his client's death. "I'm shocked," Geragos said. "One of my lawyers was with him for 12 hours yesterday and he seemed in good spirits. He was looking forward to fighting this." - Scott Jarkoff

"I definitely thought there was something fishy about the whole "suicide" angle. It does not make any sense whatsoever. But then again, why would anyone kill Miura? It is not as if he murdered a police; it was his wife he was accused of murdering, and she was nobody special in LA. The final chapter in this story certainly is quite peculiar no matter how you look at it." - Scott Jarkoff

Japanese businessman Kazuyoshi Miura, who was brought to Los Angeles on Friday to face a murder conspiracy charge over the high-profile killing of his wife in southern California in the early 1980s, has committed suicide, his supporters said Saturday. Miura hanged himself while in detention at around 10 p.m. local time after arriving in Los Angeles early in the morning, they said, adding that they learned of his death from his family. Miura was rushed to a hospital but was soon pronounced dead. The Foreign Ministry said separately that it has confirmed Miura's death. - Scott Jarkoff

Kazuyoshi Miura, a Japanese man who was earlier this year taken into custody in the U.S. commonwealth of Saipan in connection with a 1981 Los Angeles shooting that resulted in the death of his wife, committed suicide on Friday, soon after being returned to California to face trial, the Japanese consulate general here said. Miura, 61, the former president of a company selling imported goods, apparently hanged himself in his cell at about 10 p.m. on Friday local time. His suicide was confirmed by the consulate general. The motive remained unclear. - Scott Jarkoff

Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs says over 70 percent of Japanese inns and hotels that didn't have foreign guests last year don't want any in the future either. The ministry says that a survey of such businesses showed they feel unable to support foreign languages and that their facilities are not suited to foreigners. The survey released Thursday shows that over 60 percent of Japan's inns and hotels had foreign guests last year, but the majority of the rest don't want any. - Scott Jarkoff
