"Usain Bolt stunned even himself as he shattered the world record in the 100 meters. Bolt ran 9.58 seconds last night at the world track and field championships to slice 0.11 second off the previous mark of 9.69 he set exactly a year earlier at the Beijing Olympics. It was the biggest world record improvement in the event."

"The world’s fastest-growing major economy consumes more than a third of the world’s aluminum output, a quarter of its copper production, almost a tenth of its oil and accounts for more than half of trading in iron ore. Last year, China bought $211 billion worth of iron ore, refined copper, crude oil and alumina, according to government data."

"Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. earned a $1 billion paper profit from an investment it agreed to make in Chinese carmaker BYD Co. less than a year ago. The automaker has jumped fivefold in Hong Kong trading since the deal was announced on Sept. 27, helped by Buffett’s investment and rising demand for fuel-efficient vehicles. Three days earlier Berkshire agreed to an investment in Goldman Sachs Group Inc. that has since generated a paper profit of about $2 billion."

"Obama, 47, has picked the top-selling beer in the U.S. for his get-together at the White House with Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Cambridge, Massachusetts, police Sergeant James Crowley, White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs said today. Crowley will probably drink Blue Moon and Gates is likely to opt for Red Stripe, Gibbs said, citing news reports about their preferences."

You would think that he would have picked a freshy fresh from that was American owned. I bet the InBev marketing guys are going to milk this one. I can already picture the super bowl add.

I heard some guy from Sam Adams come on NPR's 'All Things Considered' a couple of days ago to critique the beer selections (as they had been pre-announced by the Whitehouse). Who knows if he was swayed by the vast lefty conspiracy that is NPR, but Gates ended up changing his selection to a very New England-y Sam Adams.

"Charges related to overdrawn U.S. accounts may rise to $38.5 billion this year from $36.7 billion in 2008, according to data compiled by research firm Moebs Services Inc. in Lake Bluff, Illinois. Bank of America Corp. in Charlotte, North Carolina, the largest U.S. bank, charges customers $35 for transactions greater than $5 that have insufficient funds. A consumer who overdraws an account by $20, repays the bank in two weeks and pays a $27 fee would be charged the equivalent of a 3,520 percent annual interest rate, according to a study released last year by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp."

"“There were interpersonal communications, things that were against what the organization believes in,” Minaya said at a televised news conference. The investigation began before the New York Daily News reported Bernazard tore off his shirt and challenged members of the Double-A Binghamton Mets to a fight after a July 1 game, Minaya said."

The best part is that this guy is 52 years old challenging a bunch of guys with bats in there 20's...sometimes I just wish these things would escalate. You don't need to go to HR when 52 year old challenges you to a fight. You do need to pause for a bit (just long enough for your buddy to turn on the camera) so you can post to YouTube. I think I've been in the desert to long.

what is it with guys and taking off the shirt before a fight? is it a symbolic regression to being a caveman or is it fear of getting blood on your shirt and getting busted by mom/wifey (like that black eye and cut lip isn't going to be a dead giveaway)?

"For the trust-fund baby who no longer has a trust fund, there’s a silver-plated rattle at $14.99 or a teddy bear wearing a sweater emblazoned “Lehman Brothers,” at $15. The unemployed with less stringent wardrobe needs will appreciate logo-stitched navy Nike windbreakers for $29.99, peach golf shirts for $24.99 and a set of four white baseball hats for $19.99."

"For big hearings with limited availability, line-standers may wait 20 to 30 hours. They're paid anywhere from $11 to $35 an hour". I wonder how many people employ this technique for black Friday specials at Best Buy?
