That depends on the nature of the problem. Some problems have no cause/effect solutions and need perturbing.
- Kevin Gamble
I don't disagree that some (well, most) problems are like that. But given a group of people that are the "we must do something!" types - and I think you'll get the "something". I'd offer the tweet is more about group dynamics and team composition than problem solving.
- Jason Adam Young
I buy that. If you think about creating safe-fail probes there are very deliberate (non-committee like) ways to get there. Far more purposeful...

If this were software - it would be like "Why weren't we notified that LEDs don't heat up - you just said 'they save energy'" Followed by "So, okay, you said "heat energy" well, well, that's not the same as heat" Followed by "Why didn't you test for this?" Followed by "I don't care, put the old lights back" Followed by "Why did our electric bills just shoot up again. Just turn the lights off at night then"

I'm not sure your posterous experiment is working as well as you'd like - it'd be nice if more information came over into FriendFeed. And the link to this article isn't working quite right - love the question though! :-) http://www.socialmediaexplorer.com/2009...
- Jason Adam Young
Don't know why that link isn't working on posterous. I tried to repost the article and it still didn't want to work. I'm thinking I will continue to use posterous but just stop sending them here.

"Are you an AT&T customer? What’s your customer satisfaction report for the carrier?" My experience has actually been very good. Whenever I've had to deal with AT&T directly it has always been very pleasant. I have to admit to being surprised. Our AT&T service in the RTP area is quite good. Zero issues for me.
- Kevin Gamble
I've had good experiences with customer service also. And 3G at my house in the quasi-boondocks? Priceless.
- LogEx
If Comcast was a carrier, they would be worse.
- Cristo
Besides getting caught in the middle of a spat between an AT&T store and AT&T corporate - AT&T customer service has always been incredibly responsive to me too. Much, much, much better than what I experienced with Verizon. And light years ahead what I experienced with Sprint. (Though Sprint was over 5 years ago)
- Jason Adam Young
same here; great customer service from AT&T. Still glad i left Verizon...and i didn't leave for the iPhone.
- jerobins
I have issues with AT&T's DSL and landline telephone.

statsvn seems to work again - well sorta, something isn't right with the output fonts, I blame java. There's some other oddities. But it's interesting.

IIRC - I had to do two. Using the SIP number right? I'm not sure I've ever had gizmo5 running though when I get calls. With the Microcell it's been a little moot. That is, until the Microcell goes out.
- Jason Adam Young
Yes using the SIP number. Thought it maybe needed the whole URL but GV field wasn't large enough.
- Kevin Gamble
Once I toggled off the auto answer it worked.

Don't worry, it'll come back around on the guitar shortly.

I still don't get "database". IE, JS, CSS, sure. Maybe she's preparing to become a sysadmin.

you are training her well, light sabers, databases - she's well on her way to Jedi status. "With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility"

forum thread on ebook DRM - it's hard getting accurate data out of the forums, but there's hints here. big takeaway - ePub DRM is a confusing mess.

I saw one comment in that thread that supported what I wanted to believe, and took it to be gospel. No worry man!

well, there's also the fact that Barnes and Noble makes significant revenue over their on-campus college bookstore franchises, yet another thing to worry a bit about.

Is there anyone who is not evil? Less evil? What's a gadget addict to do?
- Kevin Gamble
Gloat. But use their despair as rationalization to buy the next gadget that's perceived to be slightly less evil.

The editing dynamics are better - the replies integration is better than mediawiki. But what is incredibly frustrating is that I can't - or I don't know how - to directly link to a wave or a blip. This is the web - where are my deep links?
- Jason Adam Young
or maybe I can get a link - by linking to a wave in another wave and right-click copying the address. I think I'm expecting a disclosure triangle option to "get a link to this blip"
- Jason Adam Young
You just drag them in. It's really pretty darned easy.
- Kevin Gamble
What is this? A walled garden? ( well yeah it is ). I don't want the links to blips in. I want them out.
- Jason Adam Young
from iPhone
actually, no walled garden is wrong. It's a big fenced area with open gates, but no pointing into the area from outside is encouraged.
- Jason Adam Young
Perhaps, we should examine what problem you are trying to solve before jumping to the solution.
- Kevin Gamble
I want to directly link to waves and blips and send that link out through all the various communication channels. Easily. "A URL for Everything and a Chicken in Every Pot"
- Jason Adam Young
Well, you can't link to blips (just yet). Waves have URLs. But no one can see them that isn't in Wave, and I'm wondering if it isn't just better to use Wave to do what you suggest? Why send people out of Wave just to bring them back? (It'll be easier once the official groups functionality arrives.)
- Kevin Gamble
no, because I want to share my waves, blips, etc. with my other forms of communication, friendfeed, twitter, email, etc. "Hey check out this comment here in this wave" Every resource should have a URL, period.
- Jason Adam Young
which gives me "You are not a participant in this wave." (the link should add me to the wave if I can be added) - but yes, you can link to waves, but it's a PITA to get that URL out of it. And still no links to blips.
- Jason Adam Young
I added you. You should have been able to see that. Maybe I added that wrong Jason person. Oops.
- Kevin Gamble
You have too many accounts. :) You're added now.
