it's not the fact that i've got multiple incoming streams of social traffic - e-mail, Twhirl for tweets, mobile IM, FriendFeed by IM, SMS - it's the dissonance between them. if i had a single stream of consciousness that pulsed at the same rate i'd be able to keep up.
