Six New Star Trek Photos Revealed
Show all
19 hours ago - via Bookmarklet - Link
From /Film: "Paramount has begun to distribute the first production photos from JJ Abrams‘ Star Trek around the web. Above is a first look at the crew on the Bridge of the USS Enterprise from MTV. Lindelof says that Kirk’s Black shirt is the Captain uniform, and that the red shirt crew member in the background is of no importance (ie Uhura probably replaces her after she dies early on). The bridge looks extremely cool, I can;t wait to see more of it. UGO has the first cast photo of the Enterprise crew (From left to right: Anton Yelchin as Chekov, Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Simon Pegg as Lt. Montgomery Scott, Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy, John Cho as Sulu and Zoe Saldana as Uhura)." - Mark Trapp via Bookmarklet
Zachary Quinto looks exactly like Sylar in his Vulcan nerve pinch shot on the site. The bridge looks really flashy and the cast looks like the cast of Gossip Girl. Not really sure how I feel about it. - Mark Trapp
That's not sylar? - Lindsey Smith
Same actor: I haven't seen him do anything else, so he just might play Spock as Sylar. Spock has.... the hunger! - Mark Trapp
Dude . . . That's John Cho from Harold and Kumar! Overall it seems like a pretty good casting - Lindsey Smith
Where's Kirk? - Tad - the Meme Maker
The guy in the black shirt I think - Lindsey Smith
Yeah. JJ Abrams decided the captain needed his own uniform. - Mark Trapp
That's not Kirk! bah - Tad - the Meme Maker
Oh, this is exciting! - Jason Wehmhoener
Seriously impressive cast and casting. Disappointed Sylar couldn't keep his own eyebrows, he's only half the man without them. Who the fuck is Chris Pine? - Toby Graham
They've succeed on casting... I just hope the writing is up to par. - Mark Philpot
Looks sweet! This shit just made my day! - Ňicķ

BBC NEWS | UK | Magazine | Is The Big Lebowski a cultural milestone?
Show all
19 hours ago - via Bookmarklet - Link
"The Big Lebowski is a cult film. That is to say, not everybody likes it but those who do, in the main, have a special relationship with it. When it was released, as the follow-up to the Coen brothers' well-regarded and academy-impressing Fargo, many critics found themselves underwhelmed. Fargo was a film that hung together well - tightly paced and plotted, full of dark humour and moments of pathos. The Big Lebowski, on the other hand, could be viewed as two hours of wild self-indulgence, packed to the gills with bowling, White Russian cocktails, and swearing. It's 10 years since the release of The Big Lebowski, a film that split cinema audiences down the middle but created a strange cult. Is The Dude a slacker prince for our times?" - Anna Haro via Bookmarklet
For me it's a cultural marker of people I want to hang with or not depending on if they've seen/like the movie. - Anika Malone

Texas Teen Builds His Own Electric Car on $10,000 Budget : Gas 2.0

"This fall, Texas teenager Lucas Laborde will be driving to school in an electric car he built himself. The 17 year old spent last summer converting a conventional gas-powered car to run on batteries. Total cost? Around $10,000." - Kol Tregaskes via Bookmarklet

I'm seeing a LOT of stories of people re-engineering cool older cars with electric engines. When you think about it, it's the engine that dies first on most older cars - if the body is still in shape, switching the power plant is actually a great way to get a classic that's practical to drive. - Ciaoenrico

Probe Sees Unused Internet
yesterday at 7:59 am - via Bookmarklet - Link
From MIT Technology Review: "In a little more than two years, the last Internet addresses will be assigned by the international group tasked with managing the 4.3 billion numbers. And yet, while most Internet engineers are looking to Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), the next-generation Internet addressing scheme, a research team has probed the entire Internet and found that the problem may not be as bad as many fear. The probe reveals millions of Internet addresses that have been allocated but remain unused." - Mark Trapp via Bookmarklet
