Typical Democratic ploy. Make the alternative sound foolish and speak in generalities about what you're for never giving details. of the plan you support. You just accept anything because it feels good to change the world. Unfortunaely no one has ever got to see the Pelosi plan in print. It May be good, But since it is being hidden I doubt it.
- Joe Pawlak
Joe, to be fair, what you call a 'plot' is a *political* technique. It belongs to neither party and is used by both. Let's talk about the issues as Americans and not speak in generalities.
- Jason Miller
There is currently no plan. Obama is leaving it to congress. The house has a 1000+page bill being considered which scares people who read it. The Senate still is considering things in committee. We have town hall meetings with no "plans" to consider and discuss. This is nuts. What was the Democratic leadership thinking? And Obama wanted a vote before the August recess? FAIL
- Alan Morris
Joe, you realize of course that you just used the same ploy.
- Todd Hoff
Ok, you can call it a ploy, but when do we get the details so I can see if I agree or not. It'll never happen. I would love to see reform that doesn't force us all in a government- run plan. Regulated, fine.Promised freebies have a price, and in this case, it'll probably cost us any insurance plan we may have worked a lifetime earning from our employers. They are gonna just say tough,...

- Joe Pawlak
In education, we have both government-run plans (to be fair, some thriving, some failing) and a flourishing set of private systems. In package delivery, private companies and the USPS coexist quite well. Private security companies exist despite the state-run security apparatus. What data do we have to support the thesis that American businesspeople can't out-innovate the federal bureaucracy?
- Joe Murphy
I don't think anyone will argue that free business won't "out-innovate" the feds, the problem is where free business starts the process by looking for any reason to not pay. I see that as a major issue in need of reform/regulation. I think it reflects poorly on us as a society that we aren't willing to provide care for those who legitimately need it, but we'll pour billions into boner...
- John
Only one question need be answered (for starters): do the American people feel (ethically, morally, for whatever reason) that all should have ready access to care (regardless of economic status)? I don't see that this has been answered by the majority as yet, and I think that is something that has to come before all attempts at reform. Most just don't "get it", and most still ponder...

I've created a FriendFeed meme website with news memes on different topics. The first memes 4 columns are: Tech, Gadgets, Stream (all my friendfeed friends!) & my NewsPage group. I will create more memes later. I hope you like it? :) http://ff.clipotech.com/
Pretty neat. Tighten up the stuff above the feeds, that's a lot of wasted space -- give the feeds more screen real estate.
- Andy Bakun
Thanks for your comment. I will try to do that.
- Svartling
I have now "Tighten up the stuff above the feeds" so much I could and now the feeds have some more screen real estate :)
- Svartling
This is what I will use to find all the good stuff to tweet :)
- Svartling
Svartling, wow, so much going on there. Really interesting. When I have more time I will delve into it more. Kudos!
- Micah Wittman
Thanks! Yes there is much going on in one page :) I will create more pages with different topics on the same web site, so keep an eye open for it ;)
- Svartling
One more thing: Of course you can slow down a column if you move your mouse pointer over it. Same as on friendfeed.
- Svartling
I've made the length of the columns a bit shorter so you don't have to scroll the web page up and down so much. Works better me thinks :)
- Svartling
Hmm.. Can someone explain to me why this page doesn't work on the iphone? I can't find the bug that cause this.
- Svartling
This is nice. Are you using standard FF widgets? Or did you code this on your own somehow?
- Grey Drane
I use standard friendfeed embeds. So it's not hard to do yourself. I will create more pages with different topics on the same site.
- Svartling
Cool. I hadn't played around with the FF embeds lately, so last time I'd looked the comments were still being cut off. Nice to see that's been fixed.
- Grey Drane
from IM
Do you have any idea why this isn't working on the iphone? The columns are "splitted" and destroyed.
- Svartling
Sorry, no. I'll check it out on my iPhone later, but I'm not sure I have the skills to figure the problem out. I'll let you know, though.
- Grey Drane

"The Audubon Zoo in New Orleans welcomed an endangered Sumatran Orangutan, Menari, on June 10th. These photos taken last week give us a sneak peek of the baby in advance of his public debut. Native and endemic to Sumatra, Sumatran Orangutans are smaller and in fact more rare than Bornean Orangutans."

"Have you ever looked at a piece of social software and thought, or worse, blogged, that it was worthless? Here’s a trick for evaluating social software in a way that isn’t going to make you look stupid six months down the road: assume it’s valuable if people are using it. Then try to figure out what value they’re getting."
- Adam Kazwell
Oh, I like that a lot. I'll give it a try on my mobile later on, but it looks a bit more in depth than FFToGo.
- Aaron Kurtz
You're welcome everyone. Make sure to thank NaHi :) I think it is a little more in depth that FFToGo. Certainly was easier for me to use. My mobile app of choice for FriendFeed. Please spread the news of this app around. I think that the more that people get quality apps for FF (esp mobile) the more things will take off here.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
I'm using f2p on Windows Mobile 5 and my friends are using it on Japanese cell-phones (different from world standards) so it may not work well with other devices for you. Badly rendered comments? Images are broken? Link does not work? Wrong geocoding result? Simply it should be the problem I've not yet realized. Please let me know if you'll find any discrepancy about f2p via Direct message (nahi) or at f2p room (http://friendfeed.com/f2p). Thanks in advance.
- NaHi
from f2p
working good for me, thatks for bringing it to my attention :)
- Matt Thompson
from f2p
Updated. You can filter feeds by list, friend, group, service, query, discussion, like, liked, pin(star) and check entries page-by-page like mobile version of Google Reader via [show] menu. Let me know it won't work for you.
- NaHi
from f2p
I love having f2p as an option on the iphone - the easy access to feeds, lists groups is very nice to have. Once again, great work, NaHi!
- Micah Wittman
You can also purchase stickers and whatnots here: http://www.supportido.com/ (this is the site that has the sticker Derrick is sportin') I had one of the yard signs in my lawn for about a month before it was demolished. I live in such a tolerant fucking neighborhood...grrrr...
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
np! Every penny counts to help fund getting an amendment on the ballot for this fall! :D Even if you can only afford to get the free one from credo action, it has the potential to inspire others to donate, purchase, or raise the flag and show their own support! :D
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
I'm downloading porn as I type this, I mean activist rally videos etc
- sofarsoShawn
My name is Harvey Milk and I want to recruit you.

I'm in favor of marriage among all people...and while we're at it, do we have to limit marriage to two people? Would love to bring back multiple spouse options too.
- Sally: gift wrapper
Jokes, that should be your Avatar, or rather all ours
- sofarsoShawn
I support marriage equality in that I would prefer that the law recognize no marriages whatsoever. In the past, I've been accused of tacitly supporting the homophobes by promoting such an unrealistic idea, but I stand by my conviction that getting law out of the entire business is the only morally correct thing to do. (I am no hypocrite BTW; I have never been married and have no plans to get married in the foreseeable future, and wouldn't even if I didn't identify as poly.)
- Karl Knechtel
Well, my preference would be to go the other way, and scrub the word marriage from all secular law, and make everyone use a robotic legaleaze term that I haven't decided on yet. The laws would simply allow for an ultimate 2-person coupling where tax, custody, property, and fiduciary rules are simplified. But since that ain't going to happen yeah, any adult should be able to name any other single adult to be their one top agent, coparent, tax shelter, and thief of half their stuff should it not work out.
- Matthew DeVries
I do Derrick, it is a shame the discrimination.
- orionstarr
Doesn't Cali have a higher-than-average population of retirees? If so, then all's ya gotta do is wait for all the old homophobes to die off. Shouldn't be long before there's an entire generation of enlightened pensioners
- Slappy Line
One comment I heard on CNN the other day... "If we let same sex marriages happen and if it's for love, then what is to stop people who have multiple lovers all getting married?" wow the ignorance.
- orionstarr
I'm all for legalising polygamy, too; I don't see why dictating the number of people in a marriage is any less presumptuous than dictating the gender, race, or other attributes of the people involved. Surely it should be their choice, not ours?
- Tristan Seligmann
Tristan: Agreed. As far as the government is concerned, a marriage should be nothing more than a legal partnership, and who people decide to partner with is up to them.
- Roger Benningfield
Amazing. Wave photography/cinematography never ceases to impress me.
- Andrei M. Marinescu
Very cool to be sure, but why does the BBC always make a big deal of "first time ever recorded..." They did the same with Planet Earth.
- Jared B. Luther
send me a DM here in friendfeed. I have five to hand out right now.
- Robert Scoble
I think @Scobleizer needs the Swordfish set up, only for social networking, not fake hollywood hackory.
- Enrique Gutierrez
Hey Robert! Do you happen to have an invite to Skygrid? I've been dying to get one and they never opened up like I expected them to. :) andrew.burd@gmail.com
- Andrew
Andrew my understanding is that they do respond if you sign up.
- jcunwired
You guys rock (if you sent me an invite)! And I just requested one too! Thanks folks!
- Andrew
Wow!! That's neat stuff right there, what a great idea to have the vertical screen like that. I'm so enjoying it, you're one real power user to my eyes now. ;p
- ElijahBailey-Zu of FF <0,
Alright, I'm out of invites for SkyGrid.
- Robert Scoble
Initially looked like you were watching The Matrix hehe. Still a problem of noise and signal - have you seen both Facebook, and later Twitter decrease their signal to noise ratio? What area do you get the most useful info for stories and updates on new tech? And how do you get over the feeling of "missing" out when you're not in front of these feeds? rely on stuff coming up again if it's important?
- Tom Tubbs
That auto-refreshing FF window scares the pants off me. How do you not get super stressed out from all that influx of information?
- Harry Wolff
Harry: stress is what happens when your boss fires you. This is just like surfing. :-)
- Robert Scoble
But..but...how do you siphon through all that? How do you know what to respond to...what to read, what not to read....Aaaah!! How do you handle this every day?! I mean, I'm sure the 4 (I counted 4 monitors?) helps but like...wow....good on you...damn....
- Harry Wolff
Harry: I'm good at pattern recognition. :-)
- Robert Scoble
Smaller fonts is better, it feels pretty neat. A bit slower, more intel.
- ElijahBailey-Zu of FF <0,
Is there any tech out there to in real time highlight something like statistically improbable Phrases, or highlight key words, so you can grey out words that are like like the, is , and etc?
- Tom Tubbs
I don't even know what that means! lol...Also..curious...what hardware you rockin? Mostly, what monitors/displays are you using and for what (if you don't mind my asking)?
- Harry Wolff
OMG, It's scrolling so fast! Just the fact that you are able to function with a timeline that moves so fast is amazing.
- Louis P.
from twhirl
Even though there might be only 1 interesting tweet per 1000, I'd be concerned that I'd miss it since the information is tumbling out so fast
- Angus Burton
Harry: I have a 17-inch Macbook running TweetDeck, soon to be Seesmic Desktop. A MacMini playing music and hooked up to a crappy old screen. A new MacBook 15-inch with a 24-inch Apple screen (that's what I was running friendfeed on).
- Robert Scoble
Reminds me of ticker tape. Digital ticker tape.
- Kathy Fitch
Thanks...I had my laptop on mute and completely forgot that there is an audio feed along with the video on your Qik stream...Now I can actually hear what you're saying...lol....I feel so stupid lol...
- Harry Wolff
*laughs* I love the part where you said you don't need 6 monitors. 5 is the magic number? ;)
- Daynah
...how can you focus on anything? there's too much information flowing at the same time. wow!
- .LAG liked that
Daynah: actually I usually have another two laptops. Sometimes I actually have to do real work and need my vertical screen for that.
- Robert Scoble
Hey Robert, When your done your video, up for getting together?
- Luke Kilpatrick
LAG: it's easy to focus on the screen. Not easy to focus on anything else. But keep in mind I use it just to refactor my filters. That's where the real magic happens.
- Robert Scoble
Luke: sure, where? Your house, my house, the ritz?
- Robert Scoble
Go projector Scoble! You'll get a wall of information! ;) And thank you very much for this mini-presentation or whatever it is that this was. Thanks! :)
- Harry Wolff
Awesome video. If friendfeed can figure out to add the right tools to itself, it'll replace twitter, IRC, IM, RSS aggregators and everything else.
- Charbax
...just watching this, i've gotten some real insights into how valuable FriendFeed search can really be; it's pretty much the killer feature of FF.
- .LAG liked that
LAG: now you are starting to get it. :-)
- Robert Scoble
Robert: Any idea when filters will go real time?
- Tom Landini
Tom: when they are done. I'll be happy if we have them in the next month.
- Robert Scoble
Dunno why I never thought to turn different instances of FF into a TweetDeck, but now I got my mashup. Now I'll never get off FF. Thanks!
- phil baumann
When filters go real time, does that make friendfeed the IRC chat room kind of thing of all topics? friendfeed should stream and rank comments in real-time also. How to filter the few best comments out of 60 in real time?
- Charbax
If you're in the US and considering getting Moo cards, this is a good time to do it. They just opened a printing center here now and are celebrating it with a promotion of free standard shipping till May 6. Sharing the love: "Spend $20 (USD)/€15/£10 or more and get free standard global shipping by using the code CYN4HU on the payment page!"
This inspired me to reorder. I did not qualify for free shipping but i have cards on the way.
- Russellreno
I want to like moo cards. But the pricing really puts me off. I ordered gorgeous (photo edge-to-edge) fully-customized business cards a while back from Vistaprint for less than a third of what moo cards charges :(.
- Adam Lasnik
@Adam - can you put a different photo on every card with VistaPrint?
- Lindsay
Aw man :( I just ordered my first Moo cards last week, so I'm outta luck. But at least I'm supposed to get them next week sometime. Can't wait.
- Kamilah Gill
Cool! This'll be my ... third set, I think.
- Anthony Citrano
Nope, Lindsay, but why would I want to? That's not meant to be snarky; I just don't understand the use case.
- Adam Lasnik
@Adam - The whole reason I like Moo is that if I want to order 100 mini cards they can each have a different photograph on them... I take lots of pics so it's like making a mini portfolio I can carry around with me... Maybe I just want a few of each card, like in the batch I just made for Tad (http://friendfeed.com/bluecoc...). There were 6 images so he'll...
- Lindsay
Wow crazy, just earlier today I mentioned moo.com to a friend and we talked about how come they still don't have a printing center in the US. Btw, love moo..
- Aviv
Going to try to get them before the promotion ends. Damn banks hurry up!
- Corvida
I love me some Moo cards. Thanks Lindsay!
- Derrick
What I do not like about moo cards is that they still do not offer standard (US) biz card sizes! Standard US size is 3.5in x 2in inches, moo does 84mm x 55mm (3.3in x 2.17in). You'd think that with operations in the US they would offer US sizes....
- Juan Pons
Ah, Lindsay, thanks for the clarification. Still seems like quite the niche, but obviously they're doin' something right :-)
- Adam Lasnik
@Adam, if you're not a photographer, artist or graphic designer then I can see how it might be overkill, but it's a great option for those who want to showcase their work at a reasonable cost, or people who just like a little bit of variety!! :)
- Lindsay
Defintely makes more sense to me now. Thanks!
- Adam Lasnik
All my biz cards are MOO cards, created online and shipped from London. People I hand them to often stop and "feel" the card ... MOO biz cards, mini or traditional (I use both) exude quality - there's a tactile difference.
- Bob Young
I've always wanted to try MOO cards. This seems like the perfect opportunity to do so. Thanks for sharing.
- Gary Gifford Jr
Oh, weren't you bitching about FF stupid posts not making you smarter last week? Well, here ya go. No more bitching. We get to talk about bacon again.
- Eric @ CSTechcast.com
well we know what tomorrow's caption contest will be on Valleywag :-)
- Duncan Riley
There have been too many pics of his naked chest this week.

Yeah, I don't care how many people take pictures of themselves in the shower, I'm not gonna join in that memefest. No thank you. Besides you've already seen my brother in the shower...Remove some weight, adjust the nose a bit and you've got me too...ugh...that's just so wrong.
- Alex Scoble
Tina: I hope they don't do a shower meme. I'm not going to take a picture of myself in the shower, no matter how drunk you get me. *lol*
- Mol, Santa Claws
Is this your entry for the bitch face meme? It's a very disappointingly happy bitch face.
- Pete Delucchi
With all that flyin' around, Twittering, and Friendfeeding, he's gotta need 3 or 4 showers a day. The question is ..... Which soap is he plugging ? :)
- Charlie Anzman
I hope it's lever 2000 messing with Valleywag :)
- Anthony Farrior
I had put this up on pownce about 9 months ago (mp3 version) it was on a mashup mixtape i found somewhere online... pretty funny at the time... still is i guess

When will Simon Cowell bag the ugly ass haircut?
- Alex Scoble
I love these things. Worth watching.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, agreed. I wish the iphone had the ability to send a link to a youtube video quickly so this could be sent to my daughters today
- LPH™ and his dog P™
I wish they tuned down the audience a bit... Could barely hear her at times
- Mark Philpot
this lady certainly has a voice! good for her i say for being brave. :)
- Tatty Gibson
OMG, I'm in tears here. That was lovely and wow that song with all that. Had to favorite it. </sentimental wimp>
- Admiral Anika
Is good to see what nature can do. Incredible voice!
- Rafael
That's a magnificent clip, I wish America's Got Talent was so entertaining and surprising.
- Jonathan Coffman
i watched this last night, love her! Her voice is a true gift.
- Laura Zickus
Thanks for sharing that - perfect for this time of year
- Jesse Stay
She's this year's Paul Potts. Great voices, the pair of them.
- Mark H
That was just amazing. And the perfect song for both her situation and to start the waterworks. Now i have to follow the show and see if she wins.
- Kevin Fox
While I absolutely detest these shows, I must say, this woman got to me.
- Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
Oh, Duh. Got it, Kevin. This reminds me of the British man who sang opera. It was unbelievable. I think our American shows shoudn't limit the age. I'd love to see what some of the older folks here can do.
- Dawn
Dawn, America's got talent doesn't limit age either
- Jesse Stay
Great! I was thinking of American Idol. Never seen America's Got Talent.
- Dawn
"so you think you can dance" limits at 30 years or so. Such a shame.
- Kevin Fox
"So that's just one side of me!" Hahaha. So nice, she's courageous and willing, good game! So modest to have her walk away after her performance, I'm almost crying.
- ElijahBailey-Zu of FF <0,
Wow. I usually avoid all of these types of shows. But that was very cool!
- Louis Gray
I actually felt a lump form in my throat. Good for her.
- cecily
As LG said, it's my first view of that. Damn talents' shows, they got me.
- ElijahBailey-Zu of FF <0,
Not bad! I still prefer this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch... - That said, it was a surprisingly good performance. Not as much as Paul Potts, who was entirely horripilative and transcendent.
- david beckwith
This was a surprise--and lovely, thx
- susan mernit
Awesome performance. I've never seen the look of pleasant surprise on Simon's face before. You could tell that even he enjoyed it. He still needs to get a better haircut though.
- Alex Scoble
Britain may have talent, but that's more than I can say for Simon Cowell. The man is the Antichrist, as far as i'm concerned.
- Iain Baker
He was a tamed little kitteh for 6 minutes during that performance though.
- Alex Scoble
Don't know enough about Cowell to make a value judgement on the man. Sometimes (and I don't know if this is the case with Cowell) the a-hole attitude is a public front. It's possibly the case with Gordon Ramsey, and it certainly is with Ann Robinson - I've been to a recording of 'The Weakest Link' at Pinewood Studios, and she switches 'bitch mode' on and off along with the cameras.
- Ian May
Wow! Brings back memories when I first saw paul potts...
- Jorg Jansen
Seriously? This reeks of scripted viral. The show caught (online) fire in '07 with the Paul Potts audition...arguably the hottest shared video of the year. When the show returned last year, there wasn't an act even minutely close to the WOM impact Potts had generated the privious year. Clearly the BGT online buzz strategy for '09... Potts 2.0. #fail
- Zach Lytwyn
The best thing about this thread is that there is really only one cynical jaded comment out of all of them.
- cecily
Watching Simon's eyes go wide was soooooo worth it.
- Great Scott!
ahh, the power of the edit. great job of making her look like a 'cat lady' for the first several minutes. all the more powerful when we find out she's not totally daft.
- MikeAmundsen
That is one courageuos woman with an amazing voice. Goosebumps all over.
- Jochen Lillich
