Lovin' this. Need to go to bed so will set it up tomorrow. Thanks!
- Molly
Since I started using twitter, it's been one feature removal after another. FriendFeed, on the other hand, keeps adding features -- features I might not use or might turn off, but features none the less. When can I buy FriendFeed stock (or what do I need to do to get some options)?
- Andy Bakun
Zajímavá hračka: zaznamená proces psaní textu úhoz po úhozu, což lze pak přehrát a pozorovat, jak autor přemýšlel, co napsal a pak vymazal... Další stupeň otevřenosti a sdílení sebe sama ad nauseam.
- Petr Koubský
By the way, I would have used product placement in the shot, but we didn't have any Motrin in our medicine cabinet. Only Midol. :-)
- Louis Gray
from email
@Mona you have quite a treat in store for you!! Check twitter search on motrinmoms
- anna sauce
@Lisa, I have lots of issues. This doesn't solve all of them, but I am "wearing" Sarah now and typing to you guys (and doing my weekly report in PPT) so it works. And @Mona, #motrinmoms is the hashtag a lot of mommy bloggers are using to highlight Motrin's questionable promo.
- Louis Gray
Amusingly, according to Ergobabycarrier, Nov. 12-18 is babywearing week. Bad timing, Motrin. :-)
- Louis Gray
Louis, that's true! I thought the timing was amazing. A little too amazing...
- Rochelle
Now, I've gotta bust out my two slings to see if my "baby" will fit. Both of them are supposedly good until the kids are 5, but I stopped wearing my youngest once he started walking.
- Admiral Anika
Personally, I don't get it all - nor do I want to. In the end, does it really matter?
- Jesse Stay
My boy never did take to being worn very well. And once he started walking there was no way in hell he'd stay in one of these. Kicked up a storm like no tomorrow. Which was funny but not helpful to anyone involved.
- ronin
Jesse, I think Glen Campbell said it best. Whether or not you "get it" or agree/disagree, Motrin pissed off their target demographic and that is always a bad thing. http://www.techbreakfast.net/2008...
- Rochelle
Really, Motrin made a few pissy people with nothing better to do angry over feeling like they were being called a name... and then imo (ab)used Twitter for evil, rallying others who aren't even IN the target demo or being spoken to in the ad, or merely enjoy tagging along with whatever cause crowd rolls by, to make a mountain out of something entirely less than a molehill.
- abacab
There's nothing quite so grating as someone assuming an intimacy and winking familiarity where none exists. Some marketer(s) and account execs gonna have a very bad day at work tomorrow. Might want to buy some Exedrin on the way to the office. #motrinmoms
- Michael Markman
@abacab, as i said, this'll hurt - not help - social media, blogging, etc. :(
- Patricia
Agreed, Patricia. I look at all the buildup and think about how many real, legitimate causes could benefit from the attention and energy. Sad.
- abacab
I seriously doubt a few bloggers getting pissy is gonna affect anything. All I know is, nobody was talking about Motrin before. Now? They are the hot trend on the net. I'm thinking they will make more sales than enemies.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Not being part of the target audience doesn't mean one should ignore a slight. Some can choose to be in it only for themselves, but we don't all have to thank goodness.
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
Rahsheen, oh, it totally will - corporations cutting off $$ on the web. saw it the last time around. the internet is so small compared to the mass population, really. in order to have mass influence, it'd need to be relentless, go offline, etc. this viral behavior will hurt social media more than anything, unfortunately.
- Patricia
I think Motrin planned it as a kind of "light a fire under mommy bloggers" to get some attention bad = good in that vein.
- anna sauce
Considering HOW J&J usually markets it's products, light a fire under mommies is not their MO. I think it's a fail, and I think there is going to be hella backpedalling on this one. Yes, you want people talking about your product, but not with words like boycott in front of the brand name. Also, Exedrin Migraine is the one OTC I've used most since having kids. :)
- Cyndy
oh God. here come the 1000 posts analyzing it all from the social media experts. :(
- Patricia
@Patricia, it's not about social media so much as it is about branding and PR and responding quickly.
- Louis Gray
@Patricia It has already begun...my reader had at least 6 posts on the issue.
- Neal Jansons
@Louis, actually, I looked at your bio on your blog. @Neal, I guess I look at the bigger world. Tomorrow, I'll ask 25 of my offline friends who heard about this and if they care, and share it here.
- Patricia
@Patricia, I've been working in the Valley in Marketing for 10 years. I've owned our company's PR since 2003.
- Louis Gray
Patricia, I already did that and no one cared. I just finished chatting with 6 other moms, 3 who also blog and they didn't hear about it. I sent them links and they laughed.
- Admiral Anika
I think people just leap on this kind of thing to have a good scandal to blog about in their niche. I prefer to try to write positive posts about who is doing it right rather than crowing over people doing it wrong, but that is just my trip.
- Neal Jansons
@Neal, if you see my post, it recommended how other brand managers can do a better job of monitoring, more than piling on Motrin. And just about anyone here knows I'm 90-95% positive.
- Louis Gray
The ad was trying to be funny but not everyone appreciated the attempt. OK. Most probably a mistake. However, the conversation on twitter is mostly patting each other on the back on how big of a backlash they are creating and how much business J&J is going to lose because of them. I think the outrage is artificial and misplaced.
- scott anderson
@Louis, Thanks for pointing out what many prominent blogs (and bloggers)missed. This debacle doesn't have much to do with social media and everything to do with marketing 101 ie. understand thy customer. The social media part kicked in when moms started using Twitter to bash Motrin's misguided efforts. Btw, cute picture, the sling looks very fashionable :-)
- MiaD
Thanks to the persistence and hard work of so many friends, Frederick has received Tysabri. The Mayo Clinic working with the FDA found a legal basis for this use. We have every expectation of a positive result. We cannot thank you enough for all of your thoughts and support!
- Andrew Baron
The FriendFeed Real Time feature works on lists too. That is amazing! I can make a list of only my closest friends and keep them up on the screen. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow.
The Economist has just become a front-end for EIU and other services. Otherwise they would be screwed.
- Paul Denlinger
Basically they own and are marketing a database, soon to be a semantically transformed knowledgebase. (By the way, these notes from Jeff Jarvis are quite interesting and valuable, and demonstrate the incredible potential of Friendfeed-type services for information and knowledge sharing in real time.)
- Sean McBride
yeah that was the long tail analysis "there were 21,011,340 unique queries out of 36,389,567 records in the data set." - It was just another IIT dude fingering the system..no biggie :)-
