"This man has been building a career since the late 70s when he toured with George Clinton and later with Prince, but his debut, the critically acclaimed ''Waltz Of A Ghetto Fly'', was released merely two years ago. The smooth Detroit-soul of ''Waltz...'' is still here, but this one offers a more diverse, deeper sound - which makes it a better album. There’s Spacek-style future soul (''Dope''), straight-up funk (''Funky Monday''), swing-jazz (''If I Don‘t'', a favourite on Radio 1 in Belgium), afrobeat (''I Need You'') and PHAT broken beats in the superb ''Seven Mile''. Collaborators include soulman Raphael Saadiq, string maestro Larry Gold and The Unabombers from Manchester, with whom he co-wrote two songs. People who were not sure about the first one will be convinced with ''Afro Strut'': Amp Fiddler is definitely here to stay! (23/11/2006)"

Thanks for this, Anika. I have a mixtape mp3 from The Laid Back Show with a couple Steve Spacek tracks on it. I haven't had good luck finding many other tracs by him. There's some really good stuff on this site. Thanks again!

"Queen bees Lena Horne, Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday sing the blues in this stellar collection of performance footage, which also captures the magic of American divas Ethel Waters, Peggy Lee, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, Ruth Brown, Ida Cox, Sister Rosetta Tharp, Connee Boswell and Helen Humes. Numbers include Holiday's "Fine and Mellow," Smith's "St. Louis Blues" and Lee's "Why Don't You Do Right?""

Once again, comment disappeared. Hmmm, I saw this about 4 or 5 years ago. It's a great doc with lots of rare footage and you learned how their images were made. Interesting to see how some songs you associate with one artist were initially turned down by another lady.
