Discover Interview: Roger Penrose Says Physics Is Wrong, From String Theory to Quantum Mechanics | Cosmology | DISCOVER Magazine - http://discovermagazine.com/2009...
"""The book is called Fashion, Faith and Fantasy in the New Physics of the Universe. Each of those words stands for a major theoretical physics idea. The fashion is string theory; the fantasy has to do with various cosmological schemes, mainly inflationary cosmology [which suggests that the universe inflated exponentially within a small fraction of a second after the Big Bang]. Big fish, those things are. It’s almost sacrilegious to attack them. And the other one, even more sacrilegious, is quantum mechanics at all levels—so that’s the faith. People somehow got the view that you really can’t question it.""" - Joe Gregorio

Arrived at #isum09, really impressed with the number of attendees and the number of companies on the vendor floor.
Also, this is my first time in the Raleigh Convention Center, nice! #isum09

Buys Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad. Wonder how much this is influenced by trends in gov't investment in high-speed rail, more concern over transportation costs for everything (rail is incredibly efficient). This also makes me wonder what their land holdings are, and how much fiber could you lay on that land, how many cell towers, how much is unused and could be converted into commercial or residential real estate, etc. - Joe Gregorio
What's the deal with the new 'click on this little tab to see the log in form" trend? I'm looking at you twitter and tripit. Sorry those ugly input elements detract from your pretty landing pages, but now you've just added one more click for me *every time I visit your site*. Call me annoyed.

"One of the reasons datadriven programs are not common, at least among beginners, is the tyranny of Pascal. Pascal, like its creator, believes firmly in the separation of code and data. It therefore (at least in its original form) has no ability to create initialized data. " How many years later and Java has the same issue. - Joe Gregorio

Yeah, another conservative railing against the decline of rural America. We're just days away from Fox News declaring this a "Secret Liberal war on Rural America" when it's just the continuation of a 100 year long trend. - Joe Gregorio

People went way too nuts over that article. There are very good reasons no one is seriously writing pre-forking servers anymore. The reason it works for Unicorn is because Ruby's GC is totally garbage. - Toby DiPasquale
