I like it. They are less arrogant than Apple. Funny to see Microsoft playing the humble role but good result. Better than Bill & Seinfeld !

I'm really mad with it : no ping.fm integration anymore, lot of useless bell&whistles (who cares about favstar or twittblock _on the iphone_ ?), save draft with a quick and dirty birdfeed integration (not two ways!), no push notif... And you get charged like if it was a new software. Really disappointed.

Yeah, I will test for a while and see if it's better than SimplyTweet...

I'm guessing more of an Upgrade than an Update. In any case, it does kinda kick you if you bought the previous version. Not too sure how I feel about this strategy yet. Seems like it's going about it the "traditional" software sale way. Ala new version of Windows/Mac OSX, etc. where you buy a new version every couple years. But at the same time, there's an "upgrade" version available if...

I think if the dev doesn't work out something for existing Tweetie users then it is a very, very, very bad call. A big kick in the teeth to the users who made him a success. And I absolutely do NOT agree that the 'new app' thing is the justification. Is it still a Twitter app for the iPhone?
- Patrick Jordan
People are happy to pay $50 for a console game sequel, or $5 for an iPhone game sequel, but not $3 for a major new version of an app you probably use more than either of that other software combined? Probably frequent times a day? Give me a break. Tweetie 1 should've cost $10.

from iPhone
David - You have a good point. Though some console games are now $60. In any case, I'm not so sure the vast majority of the users overlap into those categories. Thus, why I tried to compare it more to software you actually install on a desktop computer. Which I still think isn't that great of a comparison as well. The problem is, I haven't seen many if any other apps go this route yet....

David - I would never have minded if Tweetie was a $9.99 app. I think the reason this decision is out of order is the principle of it. Up the price of Tweetie 1 or 2 if you want, but give your existing users an upgrade price for 2. It's NOT a new app, it is a much improved new VERSION of an existing app that many users paid for. They should be given a break on the price of the upgraded app.
- Patrick Jordan
I agree with Patrick. Go ahead and raise the price for NEW users of the app if needed, but offer as a free (ideally) or at least heavily discounted upgrade for current users. Otherwise, I think this is a BAD move and will backfire. Or what.... current users decide to break down and buy v2 and then have to pay AGAIN when v3 comes out?
- Herb Hernandez
Ok. I'll be honest. From a developer's perspective, you gotta understand that Apple takes 30% of each sales' as their cut. So he's really getting like around $2.50 or so per sale. That aside, we're talking about $3 here. It's very hard to argue about $3 with some people. I mean, the TomTom app is $99. And there's plenty other apps out there that cost more than $3. Ok. Now for the...

John - I can understand this being a difficult situation for developers, and one where Apple does not make things any easier. But ... there is a recent example of a 'crossover' app from the jailbreak arena - Snapture - offering a refund to all their half a million existing users from 'the other side' when they no longer supported the jailbreak app and took it to the App Store. From what...

There seems to be too few new features (cosmetic put aside) to be a clear justification of charging it again. There's not even a synchronnization between iphone and desktop client. This would have been a huge asset to justify charging us ~again~. Disappointed by @atebit's policy there.
- Jean-Charles VERDIE
It's $3!!! You can barely get ONE reasonable cup of coffee or a mixed drink for that at most shops. These are apps that developers slave over for months, apps that we use and re-use constantly throughout the day and week. The fact that this discussion is even happening blows my mind.
- David Chartier
from iPhone
For me, it is not about the $3. It is the principle involved and the arrogance shown towards current users. What did current users buy? I would say they bought an app that they thought was one of, or the, best Twitter app for the iPhone. So now we are told Tweetie 2 is 'a brand new app'. Well, it is still called Tweetie. That's not new. It is still an iPhone Twitter app, aiming to be...

I've been disappointed by Brizzly. The Interface is really great, but it does not really bring that much (unless you really want to stick with web-based twitter client). It looks like a friendfeed mockup for twitter... May be will it head this way?
- Jean-Charles VERDIE
Ok. I like web based twitter clients. My favorite is PeopleBrowsr. I haven't tried Brizzly.
