@Scobleizer I wonder how much it would cost you (in time/effort/employees) to clean those spammers/bots out? A lot I would imagine.

Tried it. After 1000 or so, I decided that it wasn't worth the time and effort.

Yikes, I believe it. Every once in a while I'll go through a few pages of my followers and clean out spammers/bots, but it's never-ending.
