I'm assuming some kind of music video. This is a popular dance/activity of some kind...I think in Jamaica. There was an epidemic of broken weiners as a result. (this is not a joke)
- Rah-PM 2012
I'm going with an 8. His legs clearly separated during the aerial pelvic thrust and his arm placement was clearly off before the landing.
- Rah-PM 2012
Dude...that video is just...WTF. I thought I'd seen it all, but they're just blatantly miming all types of innapropriate shit to the nth degree
- Rah-PM 2012
That video made my netherbits hurt just watching it. :-/
- Hookuh Tinypants
Probably hasn't been heard of since because you can actually BREAK YOUR WINKY! Which is highly disturbing to me. Hence why I would never even think of doing this. I treasure my winky, along with a relatively small number of other individuals.

Also see http://jezebel.com/5234308... - in particular, "Just when you were getting over the horror of daggering, a video of extreme dancing to reggae music shows a man jumping off of an 8 foot column on to the crotch of a woman.Oh yeah: And then he throws a table at her."

This is why my Guyanese half and my Jamaican half have issue with each other. LOL.

I actually came over here to see if Kam was okay. And I get an education ... ;-) FF FTW.

Just remember- this is not a competition, just an exhibition. @Kyle - ever been to Culver, IN? Grew up there before moving to Chicago.
- michael sean wright
Nice: I have been to Culver! You are in Chicago now? I will have to let you know next time I am up your way.
- Kyle Lacy
Not sure about that, but: "Time present and time past are both perhaps present in time future and time future contained in time past. If all time is eternally present all time is unredeemable." - Swatch, Always Now, 1997 (and yes my lunch, at 1:42am local, is consisting of a double martini so that actually makes some sense to me)
- David HC Soul
are you saying that time "now" has no meaning? i (obv.) reject this but toast your willingness to acknowledge the wisdom of a dean martin martini. now, for you sir, on to the work of most importance. focus on the permanent.
- michael sean wright
Well, I will grant that the sentiment of French Marshall Lyautey has some merit (he asked his gardener to plant a tree and when the gardener objected that the tree was slow growing and would not reach maturity for 100 years the Marshall was said to have replied, 'In that case, there is no time to lose; plant it this afternoon!').... So I am off to plant some trees....

you, i like. and will point you to Hermann Hesse before he won the Nobel Prize for 'The Glass Bead Game' in which he wrote in in the idyllic poem "Hours in the Garden" (1936)- 'I hear music and see men of the past and future. I see wise men and poets and scholars and artists harmoniously building the hundred-gated cathedral of the Mind." - (forword to Glass Bead Game by by Hermann Hesse by Theodore Ziolkowski.)
- michael sean wright
Thanks for the pointer - I'll go search it out.

I hope so. The thought is consuming much of my waking hours these days.... But I have to be up in 5 hours... so will have to return to the 'nightcrew' tomorrow night. One thing about time is it does seem to age one....

for most of us we met here, stayed loyal here but the sun set long ago : ( what a rush of a time that was! now we find ourselves over at g+ telling stories of the good ol' days!

I'm curious now - did google + make you come back to FF? Because that is v interesting.
- WoH: Minding her Steves
yes, we did the podcast when ff was acquired by the book of face.. watched them absorb the real-time elements and i check in from time to time usually through this post as it brings back very fond memories. google + reminds me of the early days of ff - haven't felt that way about any of the social nets that have come since the facedbooked swallow up. heaven knows we've been on them all and they seem so ancient now -- quora anyone? google got it right with +. think it marks the next era for them.
- michael sean wright
Google + right now does remind me of the FF glory days and I am curious to see what happens next.
- WoH: Minding her Steves
Carrie getting some much deserved attention. "Ms. Grimes is an Internet-age statistician, one of many who are changing the image of the profession as a place for dronish number nerds. They are finding themselves increasingly in demand — and even cool. “I keep saying that the sexy job in the next 10 years will be statisticians,” said Hal Varian, chief economist at Google. “And I’m not kidding.”"
- Bret Taylor

Great article, but it left out that statisticians need some CS muscle to effectively operate on large scale data. It's the combination that make Carrie -- and others like her -- 'Internet-age' statisticians.

I couldn't say. I don't use FriendFeed that much. -]
- Chris Loft
or you wish your blog integrated FF comments!
- Valeria Maltoni
Valeria: You could always use DISQUS third-party commenting on your TypePad blog. DISQUS now offers easy FF integration as well as slightly more complicated Facebook Connect functionality. Stowe Boyd uses DISQUS on his TypePad blog though he doesn't have the two features I mentioned switched on. http://www.stoweboyd.com/message...http://www.disqus.com
- Daniel J. Pritchett
You wish there was software specifically made for FF!
- Egyirba
have heard that lots of spam comes through Disqus and I already receive my fair share :) TypePad has not played nice with many applications, including the "share this" button. It was an innocent thing and it wracked havoc on the blog. Yes, Stowe Boyd and I had a brief exchange on Twitter on that. Thank you!
- Valeria Maltoni
Good point, V. I get plenty of spam to my blog and it's probably a lot less popular than yours. (edit: You have 40x my feedburner numbers!) There's a "report spam" feature but it still requires more effort than I appreciate.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
LOL! You gave me a good chuckle.TypePad has a very good spam filter and system (so far). 40x? Nah. I have so few comments :)
- Valeria Maltoni
Hmm. A bit over a decade ago, I remember getting momentarily confused trying for the hyperlinks in a print newspaper on the 'continued on page B3' text. It hasn't happened since. I haven't yet had the experience of looking for the 'like' button.

I am in love with FriendFeed, Scoble's posts and Twitter! I have never in my entire life, loved anything like I like Social Media! I am TERMINALLY ADDICTED, with no cure in sight.
- J. D. Ebberly
someone just left a comment on this post at my blog saying there's nothing to do on FriendFeed - thought I'd share with this group. You all seem to enjoy being here :)
- Valeria Maltoni
Scoble's gone. (Let me rephrase that - Alex's brother is gone.) I'm still here, and apparently we die-hard loyalists aren't yet so few that we all know each other! Just discovered your latest article this morning - 12 reasons - I'm SHOCKED I didn't discover you long before now. But every word you wrote in this post, almost two years ago, is still true!
- Auntie Buttinsky Botts
What a nice surprise to find this thread revived. Which is also one of the strong points of FriendFeed. Things don't disappear into oblivion like Twitter, or Facebook for that matter. I find that FF allows me to be more thoughtful.
- Valeria Maltoni

Why? You'll have to see our Building43 video to see why. :-) But let's just say they did the search technology for several camera stores and the conversion rate went WAY up. Why is that? Because they offer a new way of searching things that really rocks. I can't explain it in text. Gotta show it to you.
- Robert Scoble
Primestar's AnswerOil UIX is a good fit for #Bing's decision support platform, combined with shopping cart & checkout optimization products from www.allurent.com would yield further eCommerce results.

Most likely to get purchased by Microsoft with the intent to crush Google, perhaps. But Microsoft intends a lot of things. Maybe they'll buy PrismaStar, then rebrand MSN, er, Live Search, er Bing, and the market will be less confused.
- Andy Bakun
Jessops has been losing money as long as anyone can remember, which is hardly Prismastar's fault. The point is though that Jessops has a very good search tool with Prismastar's AnswerOil and has seen a substantial increase in its conversion rates since adopting Prismastar's technology. It could be Answeroil which has kept them going this long (nobody would have expected them to still be around in late 2009 eighteen months ago)
- John S Cameron
John, did Jessops really see a substantial increase in conversion rates? I respectfully suggest that this is not a fact. Can anyone actually verify this claim? It is on record that Jessops are still around because HSBC Bank saved them, rather than because of their business performance.

Hello again Mark, Comparing the Prismastar Product Selector to Jemms iBlick Finder would most depend on what the clients business requirements are. Rachel and Kevin are extremely thoughtful and generous people—we joined them in Hollywood tonight vis-à-vis tickets they offered to the Part I Finale taping of So You Think You Can Dance #SYTYCD
Look up spontaneity. This is how it reads: Rachel and Kevin along with their friends Paul and Karen flew down to LA this morning with no luggage for the finale show (Kevin scored place-holder tickets 2 months ago by signing up online). They were pretty sure they would get extras, and Rachel knew we were in the area based on the LA FriendFeed meet-up thread http://friendfeed.com/friendf... , so I got a DM. When I showed the message to my wife, she jumped up and down and screamed—that kind you'd expect when hitting the lotto. Yes, we're fans of the show. So, they waited in line outside the Kodak theater half the day to trade in the place-holder tickets for the real thing, and longer still to secure the extras for me and my wife, and we met them in queue. Wow. Just wow. Pics or it didn't happen attached.
- Micah
Just meeting Kevin and Rachel in person, making that transition from online to on pavement today, was fantastic. And SYTYCD—what a show it was (everyone else will have to wait till Wed night to see it). Rachel, Kevin, we don't know what to say, except: Thank you :) PS. We still don't know if you made the last flight out of LAX tonight, but safe travels.
- Micah
BTW, tonight I got a life-time free pass from Laura when I ramble on about FF 'this' or a friend on FF 'that'. There are no online friends and IRL friends. Just: friends.
- Micah
You're welcome, Micah and Laura! We also had a fantastic time and it was great to meet you IRL. We *did* catch our last flight out and are now safely re-ensconced back home in the SF Bay area! This whole trip, thrown together at the last minute, relied on a whole lot of things falling in to place and we were really lucky that everything worked out! The show was phenomenal, and we're...

- Paul Wilcox
Likewise, Paul (and Karen). Oh, and if you heard the contraband sound of a cell phone that rang at one point, that was the dude right in front of me in the next row o_O
- Micah
Micah, I didn't hear that one, but a bunch of people around us had phones and cameras. Did you get yours in the theatre?
- Rachel Lea Fox
We coat checked our camera, but we got Laura's cell phone through. Three guys in front of us were taking pics with their phones the whole time (well, they left half way through though).
- Micah

They Left? Losers. By the way security barely searched my purse, I could have easily hid my iphone in there and got it in. Just didn't want to risk it with the tight timing to catch our plane. Still, kinda wish I had a photo from inside. So so glad you got the before photos. Can't wait to see the show tonight though! Did you guys decide who are you are voting for?
- Rachel Lea Fox
oh! how much fun is that!! I love happy stories!
- Nathalie
Wow, it sounds like you had a wonderful time. I'm glad that you did!
- Michael Fidler
What? The Fox's came and went? Awesome. Sounds like you guys had a great time.
- Mark Krynsky
Mark, trips to LA tend to be that way for us, though this one was more frantic and rushed than they normally are. We have lots of family in the LA area so often when we come down its for a short weekend for a family event and then are gone again. I think this was my first ever trip to LA where we didn't get a chance to see family. It was a crazy tight schedule too, we got in, stood in line, got our tickets, ate dinner, saw show and made the last flight of the night. It was a crazy cool day!
- Rachel Lea Fox
Josh, I coming to work for you, didn't Johnny tell you yet?
- Micah
Rachel, we just voted for ... drum roll ... Jeanine. She's not better in terms of pure technique, but she earned it, especially last night.
- Micah
I also voted for Jeanine. I didn't think I would, I had Kayla first and Jeanine and Brandon tied for second before going to the taping. But Jeanine just impressed me so much yesterday and while I don't think it all showed as well on TV she still gave an amazing how and I think she does deserve to win. However I will be happy if either Kayla or Jeanine wins.
- Rachel Lea Fox
Alright, Micah! We can pay you only in LOLs. Not sure what that converts to in US$. Glad to have you aboard!
- Josh Haley
Sounds pretty hectic Rachel...but if in the future you guys have a little more time I'm sure we can schedule an impromptu FF meetup over here.
- Mark Krynsky
The US Lollar is currently worth about 1.2 Canadian Lollars. It used to be even, but as the economy recovers we're getting our sense of humor back.

Augmented reality is really taking off! The weekly Best Buy ad in the newspaper has an AR tag on the cover. It works at http://bestbuyin3d.com
- Pete Barry
Awesome! Did they show the ghosts? I was helping with that part =)
- Kevin Cheng
Any idea how we make use of the toolkit, there is new download at the link, I'm new to iPhone Dev, so I'm probably missing something.
- Keith Moon
It is new and I don't have all the details yet. Yes, they showed the ghosts. Funny!
- Robert Scoble
from iPhone
What does augmented reality mean ?
- Mark
from iPhone
Mark you aim your iPhone at things and it tells you about them.
- Robert Scoble
from iPhone
So I would aim it at a poster for a west end show and I would get reviews and tickets etc ?
- Mark

Android has more and better augmented reality. There are more Android phones out there than iphone 3gs, soon about a dozen new Android phones are coming out from Samsung, Dell, Acer, Huawei, Philips, Motorola, Archos, Asus, Creative and others
- Charbax
Mark: that is part of it but think the world, not apps. Go watch some videos on YouTube to see what AR does.
- Robert Scoble

Will do when I get home on my wifi the 3g sucks here on iphne

Robert, remember the ghosts on iPhone ARKit? We have a beta that's almost ready for the appstore. If you have a 3GS, let me know and we can get you a test version if you like!

"The human genome is an indisputably stunning piece of work: 25,000 or so genes containing all of the essential instructions for building a being. Still, it's only a guide. Alone, the genome cannot construct a person. The “book of life” requires a vocabulary of attendant molecules, compounds and chemicals – a biochemical language, so to speak – to help genes write the individual story of you. Altogether, this phenomenon is called epigenetics. Its study represents one of the cutting edges of bioscience, offering the possibility of not just curing diseases like cancer and diabetes, but preventing them altogether."
- Mike Chelen

Arrggh. I hate it when journalists promise that we're going to cure cancer. Every new technology is hyped that way, and when it fails to deliver, people become disillusioned.
- Chris Miller
Interesting... how does one feed 'methyls' to mice?
- Egon Willighagen
I hate how "cancer" is always described as a single entity. It's a multifaceted case specific disease that will have many different cures.
- Brian Krueger - LabSpaces
I agree with all the criticism of the shoddy journalism here, but I still think the idea of creating an "epigenome" is a valuable pursuit.
- Benjamin Tseng
Agree on the whole. I always find these categories a little artificial: Really "Forrester-speak". :) I think the recommendations are the most interesting. I'd make a separate post out of that.
- Meryn Stol
You say it yourself: "What’s interesting isn’t this vision for the future, but what it holds in store for brands, " . I'd like these recommendations to be fleshed out with concrete first steps to take. Doesn't have to be more than links to relevant resources.
- Meryn Stol
Meryn The recommendations are fleshed out in the actual reports. Our clients (brands) have access to see them.
- Jeremiah Owyang
Hmm ok... Then I'll need to get the details elsewhere I guess. :)
- Meryn Stol
There will be a give and take between communities and brands. The thing is, Facebook doesn't have a competitive alternative that users could go to. In my report, we suggest that active communities could define specs for products, and bid MULTIPLE companies to build it.
- Jeremiah Owyang
good stuff Jeremiah, enjoyed and some good thought provokers there for the future

Great information, understanding the future's potential is more important than ever on the social web.
- Maria Reyes-McDavis
Interesting, but very general and hard to apply. I see companies more as å provide of tools/stage for conversation, aka the gold rush mining vs selling tools
- Anders Dahlberg
Alp, Many of Forrester's clients are large brands who have a subscription. We're still sharing a great deal on this blog, and have given the report to bloggers to cover, so there's value to be had there.
- Jeremiah Owyang
Jeremiah (and the team), a great piece of work and, I imagine, a labour of both love and loathing at times! I have been very interested in this area as I have looked at the shift in skills to deliver social media activity changes from one of basic coding knowledge to much more human, interactive skills.
- Paul Fabretti
Fantastic article! I found it SO intriguing that I've even printed it out!

"How Brands Should Prepare" is a great bit of information. Jeremiah, it would be nice (i'd be reading) if you expanded in future blog posts about the "How Brands Should Prepare".

Probably correct in assuming that most online social networks will neither spawn nor solidify to the point of being considered ‘affinity groups’ with the level of cohesion, unified budgetary authority or organized implementation capability of NGOs, churches, or employee aggregations. Even in the era of social commerce. I hope I’m wrong.

So if someone were to try to develop a show, would it benefit better being developed and hosted on the web, or should it still try to be developed for TV?

- PookyMedia
well, personally i dont follow Perezizzle or anything, but... i found the whole Demi vs. PH thing interesting. i think they should share a kiss at the Oscars.
- Natalie Keefe
So is there a particular topic of discussion, or just anything goes?
- Lisa Dee
Jason, I think Alyssa Milano is smart - maybe not the smartest, but for the way she uses twitter.
- Lisa Dee
um... did anyone think the whole Demi-calling-PH-a-pornographer controversy was like when Sarah Palin accused David Letterman of statutory rape?
- Natalie Keefe
um, @aplusk is probably the best... he has the most followers, i think that says a lot. i mean, he caught on to twitter before it got "big" and i mean now it is not even as big as facebook, so...
- Natalie Keefe
Forgive me, anyone who follows me, but I don't automatically follow back. I use Twitter for the content, so I only follow those who Tweet about things that interest me.
- Diane M
well... i think value is wat counts, D
- Natalie Keefe

Chicago - thanks, Natalie. I'm in San Diego. Yeah, tell us about ur book!
- Lisa Dee
ya, it didnt really go over well with literary agents so... well... trying to market a first-time novella writer's chick lit book... like zero sales appeal. i guess.

i will be honest, i think my book is like a bad first draft. i mean... maybe someday people will buy it when they actually know & like my future work. then again, i didnt really do a whole d*mm lot to try to market the book either.
- Natalie Keefe
I think Jason went to go for a bathroom break. heheheh!!
- HANNA ANG

Natalie: You don't have to use a URL shortener on FF. It shortens the link in the feed, but the full URL's still there (check your status bar) and whoever clicks it will go to the right site.
- Dennis Jernberg
But I wish when we clicked on a link here it opened in a different window. That would be so much better.
- Lisa Dee

- Lisa Dee
I have learned that when a popular person starts a discussion, tired people forsake sleep to participate.
- Mike Dammann
Anybody else still out there? There you are, Mike. That's true, isn't it!
- Lisa Dee
Dictionary.com defines "meme" as "a cultural item that is transmitted by repetition in a manner analogous to the biological transmission of genes." Basically, the cultural equivalent of genes. They can mutate and evolve faster, of course. Since I'm working on a couple novels, I like to call myself a memetic engineer.
- Dennis Jernberg
this hillarious i got the fake danny devito following me
- Rob Madden
participating in a reforestation project with a Dutch company, right now the forest fires are getting bad though. I won't be able to get outta here any time soon :)
- Mike Dammann
I've actually got two dead people following me: Robert Anton Wilson and Timothy Leary. I think Jesus is gone, though; he was following me for a while...
- Dennis Jernberg
Dennis - Seriously? That's funny! Dead people on twitter!
- Lisa Dee
According to legend, the actor walked into the audition, script in hand, and yelled, "Who wrote this shit?!" Jim Brooks hired him on the spot.
- Mike Dammann
Did Dennis fall asleep at the keyboard?
- Lisa Dee
working to make shorter.... will post here first for your express approval
- Tanya
"I follow dead people before following fakes, less walking for me" Danny
- Mike Dammann
If you have to, make it 2 tweets - use ellipsis at the end, like this "Taxi..." and then start the next tweet with the ellipsis again: ...I just yelled (etc)
- Lisa Dee
No, I'm still around. Just multitasking some. Right now I'm reading about fake Twitter accounts. ;)
- Dennis Jernberg
You can't consume health care like you can consume, say, technology. You're not going to die if you don't buy an iPhone at this very moment. But you just might if you have blood in your stool, you've been losing weight and feeling a little tired, but you can't afford the colonscopy right now, and want to wait until the price comes down.
The myth of consumerism in healthcare: when your doctor order an MRI do you request a simple flat plate because its cheaper? ;)
- WarLord
*shudders remembering when she had to upgrade the memory in the computers connected to the equipment that does colonoscopies* Thanks, Victor (I should have gone to bed an hour ago)
- MiniMage, enterRUPPted
Cristo thats just sensible - percocet is a quality of life issue
- WarLord
Do you ever get your script for Percocet, though? (If you do, let me know who your doctor is so I can, uh, consult them.)
- Victor Ganata
Chronic heartburn might not kill me, but the esophageal cancer it can cause might. Plus, getting testing done is more like renting. You rarely take the MRI machine home.
- <3Heather<3
in the middle of my last one, doc says: "Would you like a bit more sedation?" ...MMMKAY... woke up in the car half way home
- WarLord
So are you going to skip the colonscopy to save some money and just ask your doctor for a colon resection? Never mind that we have no idea whether or not you really have cancer.
- Victor Ganata
WarLord, I'm really hoping you weren't driving! ;-P
- Jeff P. Henderson
Victor doctors hate people who jump right to the punchline justsayin
- WarLord
Jeff they tell me it was hardly noticable that I was totally trashed ;)
- WarLord
Yikes, well a colonscopy will probably only set you back less than $1k out-of-pocket if you don't have insurance, and it's usually a package deal that includes the drugs and everything ;)
- Victor Ganata
If only 50 patients split the pooch's maintenance for a year, there'd be savings for them, and there could STlLL be profit... err, I mean revenue. Just DON'T name him "Frisky."
- MiniMage, enterRUPPted
Of course, a dog wouldn't be able to snare pre-cancerous lesions. At least, I assume they wouldn't be able to. *shudder*
- Victor Ganata
I knew that was coming. I think I'd rather just part this mortal coil than end up doing a side job at the home of someone who did my colonoscopy. Considering I came pretty close to that kind of situation... I'll tike my chances with the dog. How nonchalant are physicians when it comes to their OWN bodies, anyway? Can they golf and have drinks with their proctologists and gynecologists?[edit: or any HCP's, for that matter]
- MiniMage, enterRUPPted
So are we now all looking forward to the days when colonoscopies can be completely replaced with cancer-sniffing chihuahuas?
- Victor Ganata
WarLord, unless you don't have any money and/or no insurance, then you have a problem.
- Jeff P. Henderson
No Jeff I respectfully beg to differ: while I do understand intimately the issues of money insurance and medicine Some problems especially medical ones if left to fester become unfixable for any sum.
- WarLord
About the colonscopy costing $1000 with no insurance, next time you go to the dr ask how much something would cost with no insurance. Then look at how much your insurance is charged. There will be a difference. Insurance companies are charged less for the same procedure/test then an individual with no insurance. But you can get a discount if you pay head of time. Not enough to make it equal, but enough that if you can charge $2k on your Visa it works out better.
- <3Heather<3
Actually, the way it works is that the health care provider charges the patient and the insurance company (or the government) the same amount, but the health care provider signs a contract with the insurance company/the gov't that stipulates the fractional payment they receive is to be accepted as payment in full. So while the charge on the bill is $1k, very few insurance companies will...
- Victor Ganata
So what has happened is that prices have become hyperinflated in order to maximize the fractional reimbursements. The person who gets screwed by this is the person without health insurance, since I think technically Medicare makes it illegal to charge the person without insurance less than what you would charge Medicare.
- Victor Ganata
Although I realize this isn't actually true (see the CMS HHS uninsured FAQ http://www.cms.hhs.gov/AcuteIn... ) But there definitely is a misconception among many health care providers that you might go to jail for offering discounts to uninsured and underinsured patients while charging Medicare the full price.
- Victor Ganata
MN attorney General (Dem) slammed a hospital for charging uninsured patients the retail price while big insurers got wholesale ie discounts for same procedures. I think last I read she was getting reimbursements to patients and a rules change - I'll have check
- WarLord
Therein lies the conflict. What an insurance company reimburses a hospital is almost never anywhere near what the hospital charges. What the MN AG wants hospitals to do is charge the uninsured what they get reimbursed rather than what they would normally charge. It's a step in the right direction.
- Victor Ganata

In a related story, Procter and Gamble wants you to throw a launch party for their new and improved Ivory Soap.

Who does Microsoft's marketing? These people are morons. Absolute f**king morons.
- Chris Nixon
I read this "warns people" not "wants people" lol
- anna sauce
Actually this has convinced me to cancel my order for Windows 7. I want no part of this.
- Chris Nixon
Photoshop a Wookie? How about that pesky squirrel that pops up everywhere! ;)
- Dennis Jernberg
Everyone I would invite to a party for the launch of Win 7 is already running it in the enterprise, so it will not exactly be a big 'hurrah'. ;) Seriously I am not even thinking of having a party.
- travispuk
Oh I'm not throwing a party you can be sure of that...it's just that their piss poor marketing is degrading what was looking like a good product.
- Chris Nixon
I remember throwing a "CP/M is Dead!!!" party... how many here can say that!
- Mark J
Hahah! http://houseparty.com: "The site you have attempted to access has been blocked due to its content: "Entertainment;Suspicious"" (my company uses BlueCoat filtering, "Suspicious" gets blocked).

I like the way only one person brought their laptop... Surely you'd all install it...
- Rich
Oh yeah, sent out my party invites already. ;-)

"Needing to change your car’s oil at 3,000 miles is a myth. Many cars today can go longer without affecting engine wear. Automakers are regularly recommending oil changes at 5,000, 7,000 or even 10,000 miles based on driving conditions. Yet research conducted by the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) shows that nearly three-quarters of Californian drivers change their motor oil more often than automaker recommendations. Following the 3,000 mile myth generates millions of gallons of waste oil every year which can pollute California’s natural resources."
- Stephen Mack
from Bookmarklet
They're fairly polite at the site, but basically the scam is that if you go to any of the well known oil change services (Jiffy Lube, etc.) they'll put a sticker saying to come back in for another change at 3k miles. Owner's manuals do recommend oil changes at 3k miles under certain conditions, but for most drivers, between 5k-12k is probably the recommendation for their driving conditions.
- Stephen Mack
Why not use synthetic oil and change even less often? My car tells me when to change the oil based on how much fuel has run through the engine. My average interval between oil changes is 15-16K miles or once a year.
- Jeff P. Henderson
A 99 BMW 528i with 180,000 miles on it. It is still running very strong.
- Jeff P. Henderson
I remember hearing this on an episode of Car Talk some years ago. They specifically mentioned that new cars, in particular, wouldn't need an oil change for a long time.
- George S.
The recommended interval on my 2001 Audi S4 is 10,000 miles (using synthetic oil).

SiPix (a division of our old friend AU Optronics) has announced that it will bring "a small number" of color e-ink displays to market by the end of 2010. Apparently, a breakthrough in thin-film-transistor panels has put the company on the fast-track to making this technology commercially viable. If so, it could beat rivals like PrimeView (the manufacturer of both the Kindle and Sony's Reader) to the punch by a year or two. "Making colored electronic paper displays is our top priority," said SiPix president Andrew Tseng. "We are in talks with customers to supply colored displays ... as [color] would encourage advertisers to place ads on [electronic] publications, which then would be able to provide more content [to readers] for free." While PrimeView is currently scrambling to buy up US-based E Ink, AU Optronics is scheduled to ship its first e-paper display modules to customers this quarter. The ball's in your court, Fujitsu. Vijay...I wish. If you click on the image the full version that you see is all I have. This was taken at a photo booth at a conference I was at. The folks at http://politeinpublic.com/ are the ones that do these at all kinds of events and do a fantastic job.

JeremyMLane: hows this for interesting? twitter has a realtime http stream API in alpha. hows that for your replacement for FF @scobleizer - http://twitter.com/JeremyM...
Wow, David wins. :) Although I kind of think I share in that win by being able to read what he said with very little effort. o_O And mike, no, I'm not actually sure they're not related.
- Jandy
So how would you render "Jandy" in 1337? Last time I think I had to use "Jandy Stone" to come up with hardly any 1337 characters.
- Jandy
Yeah, I got that far. No other letters really lend themselves to numbers, though. :/
- Jandy
future jj. It hasn't caught-on yet, on a large enough scale, to be a wide spread headache.
- vijay
"The future is here. It's just not evenly distributed yet." - William Gibson

aye mike. I would agree too but then a part of me says it sounds like me saying "The morning is here. It's just that the sun has not reached us yet." Thought provoking, none the less. Thanks for the quote. : )

( also, anyone else notice this post doesn't have a timestamp? weird! )

My coffee pot. Best in town. I should charge fot it.
- Steven Perez
I have never had Dunkin' Donuts. McDonalds coffee is really quite good. However, Starbucks, depending on the choice, makes nearly unbeatable coffee. But Peet's Coffee kicks all their butts. And then there's www.keancoffee.com, which is where the gods of coffee go to refuel their spirits.
- Moody (Sweet FA 4 Life)
None of the above! I opt for local, independent coffee houses that actually roast their own coffee on site. One of my favorites is Orchard Valley Coffee in Campbell CA. If I had to choose a chain though, I'd pick Pete's.
- Jeff P. Henderson
I think I like Peet's better than Starbucks.
- Bonnie Foster
alas, the shortages we face on e coast, no pete's, no indie coffee huts... :(
- chaz2b
@Paria -- I believe you can order online from Kean. Seriously, their coffee is outrageously good. And, again, Peet's, too, is well worth ordering from online.
- Moody (Sweet FA 4 Life)
chaz, there's a Peet's in Boston, so it's not completely absent from the e coast.
- mikepk
Starbucks, but we don't have one in my town. We don't have Dunkin' Donuts in Australia at all. We do have McCafe though, and my closest one makes nice lattes. But my fave coffee place is Star Gardentown: http://www.stargardentowncafe.com.au/

None of the above. Peet's or Stumptown, thanks.

I vote dunkin donuts. I've never tried McDonalds coffee. I prefer Starbucks over Dunkin donuts for espresso drinks.
- jenali

Pilot Truck Stop in the US. I'm still struggling to find something that matches that here in the UK.
- Nick B.
McDonalds coffee generally good in the US. Over here in the UK it's a non-starter.
- Nick B.
This matches what I hear from people that run to a DD when they see one (we don't have DD here yet). They prefer DD over McDonalds & Starbucks. Starbucks is about community, not yummy coffee. Maybe they can learn from DD on how to make a good, cheap cup of Joe.
- Charl Lee
Standard coffee (hot or iced) goes to Dunkin (plus they add cream and sugar already which is a nice touch). Starbucks for specialty. However, for home brew, I prefer Starbucks.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
Proof again that Dunkin' Donuts brews the best cup of java in America. Now if they would just open up their long promised stores in St. Louis...
- Mark Edwards
I'm pretty sure they proved that they didn't LOL They still only got about half the points available... Lets let that one sink in.. Half.... I think when it comes to coffee then "less is more" Drink less but drink better. But then again I'm only a weekend coffee druggy not a full time coffeeholic.
- Rasmus Lauridsen
Haven't has SB or Costa's in ages. But McDonalds truely has terrible coffee. But Subway is pretty good.
- Roberto Bonini
from iPhone
I find McDonalds has good coffee when they start a new campaign, but then it turns to dreck real fast around here. I think they just keep adding to the current pot. DD's OK as is Starbucks. I like the Cafe blend at Atlanta Bread best.

This is what I like about FF. I could have spent hours trying to find good quality (pr0n) links... but here, in like a few minutes we have some quality links already. :D
- Sunny Saxena
That would explain your following Violet Blue on Twitter. :)
- Louis Gray
Porn seems (edit)like a process to access with guys. No one just pokes around RedTube? o.o
- <3Heather<3
Robert: I think the reason that porn(social expectable to most in this age) isn't more fluently spoken about on the web outside of 1:1 conversation is that now it's easy to track what some has said. If porn(links, images, etc) exist on your social profiles, its possible your family, prudish friends, or in a background check for a job could uncover it. It's possible it could hurt you and...

- Jimminy, CoG of FF
Holden, I don't know how many times I've gone to http://www.twatter.com/ and think someone should put a porn site there, sadly it's just a place holder selling adds, no content that I've seen.
- Jimminy, CoG of FF
Louis: I follow Violet Blue because we spoke at a Fortune Magazine conference together. Oh, and we violated a Mac display at Macworld together. But that wasn't really about porn. Or was it?
- Robert Scoble
Errr... We gave discussed this already in the gentlemen's room. Months ago.
- Johnny
from iPhone
Woah, well apparently that's been added in the last 2 months. I don't think I've typed twitter into my browser for about that long.
- Jimminy, CoG of FF
Cracking up, Louis. Well, Robert did say that who he follows should tell the world something about what he's interested in, so there ya' go.
- Kathy Fitch
Kathy: and also that I follow people who I've met face-to-face and I've definitely met Violet Blue face to face.

Robert : you cant follow me on Twitter as I dont let my contents to the once I hvnt met in person :-)
- Johni Fisher
The hardest part about talking about porn is that once you share a few links... everyone leaves the conversation. Can't figure that one out.
- Louis Gray
Louis: they will be back in a few minutes.
- Robert Scoble
I've noticed the lack of porn discussion here too. I'll say that I don't know the majority of people on FF very well so I wouldn't feel *right* talking about it here.
- EricaJoy
Yeah, it's weird. Every flavor of sexuality is right at our fingertips in virtually clinical detail, but humans still have a hard (uh, *difficult*) time talking about sex. Slippery (er, *elusive*) subject.
- Kathy Fitch
The fear of talking about porn sometimes prevents some learning about some good tech practices as porn site techies have done some serious tech work on ddos, payment systems and other security work.

Interesting to see that Andrew was the first one to bring up the business side of porn. I've worked for companies that stood to make a significant amount of revenue if we accepted business from pornography purveyors. Unfortunately for our top line, we let the "morals" of top leadership prevent us from making a good business decision. Once we get over the stigma of our sexuality and allow it to become a topic of everyday conversation, businesses that go about it smartly will make lots of money.

To me, being comfortable with sexuality and being comfortable aligning oneself with the porn business aren't quite the same thing. I think it's okay to pass up some opportunities for profit when they don't suit an organization's mission or philosophy.
- Kathy Fitch
I'll talk about porn seriously. Where do I start?

I formerly worked for a web hosting service that did the same thing that Sally referred to regarding disallowing "adult content websites" that approached us about hosting. I've noticed that most web hosting services (including Rackspace and its affiliates) seem to keep porn from entering their business realm. What's your thoughts on that, Robert?
- Michael Owens

Michael: I will be at Rackspace tomorrow and will check on our policies.

Robert. there's a guy here in Tokyo putting out cyber-porn, sensual Mad Max type stuff, as Twitter novella. Check him out on Twitter: @mopedronin

Probably a conspiracy to drive up prices for hosts that allow porn (very very few). Odd really for a perfectly legal past-time.
- Mark
What a minute...there's porn in the Internet?!?! Who knew ;)
- Kenny
We are seriously talking about porn and porn detection. We have made the porn filter, which detects porn content in images without performing text analysis.
